Haha, great song, but its in 6/8 so a dance version would sound like all those electroclash records that were in that time signature. (Goldfrapp/Ewan Pearson/Superpitcher -- I Walk, etc)

For some songs, he got no "publishing rights". That means he didn't get paid as the songwriter. He still got royalties as the artist as I recreated the master samples. If I hadn't done that, he might not have made as much money. The bottom line is, if you sample someone else's recording, you are not, in the eyes of the law, doing much work and so most of the money will go to the sample owners.

And out of the let's 100% royalties an artist could get , how many % are those songwriters royalties and how many % are the artists playing on the master (like in Mylo's case on your example). Like 80-20?50-50?90-10? I guess if you are a DJ playing a lot u can bank on the fame of having a number one dance record ans forget the single sales money if u sample someone?

@@zz.158 Songwriting rights were worth more in the 90s and 00s. Now it's maybe 20% of the total. I always think its better to maximise the income in all of your streams, that's why I fought to get Mylo as much of a share as possible. He had an amazing deal, I paid him over £1M in royalties.

It's nothing to do with the label. I was running the label. After we made the album a success, he wanted to get out of his deal. My understanding is that he didn't think he owed the label (me and my partner at the time) anything. We obviously disagreed with that and it took a few years in court to sort out. But since 2012, he's been free to do what he wanted. He's just chosen not to.

I have been an artist(indie) manager for a few years, so he probably didn't understand clearly that the label invests in the artists and the artists must pay back all the costs (studio time, equipment,promo,etc) and you had maybe a deal that he had to release a minimum of X album with you or during an X length of time. I see. So he's been free and hasnt released anything since 2012,thats a terrible news. He was so talented.You produced also his album right?You would say that the quality of the album is 50-50 both of your talent or is more his talent or yours?Because I heard your remix and I can hear your sound into his album. The way you rearranged for example Elvis Presley 's remix sounds like Mylo had done it kind of. I understand that a producer has a very big role in the quality success of a record.(Of course there must be some alchemy between the artist and the producer)

@@zz.158 Haha, he understood what he signed, I don't think he liked it though. With the Mylo album, he wrote the songs and I made the finished versions. Sometimes, they have more of me in the sound, sometimes more of him. Some songs didn't need much, others needed a lot.

You could do a serie explaining how Mylo and you came up with the samples used on his album, how did you chopped it, which part you recreated it?For instance Valley of the Doll: you re-recorded all the parts including the voices?How did you or Mylo found that old vinyl?Were you a fan before or you buy random vinyls?I never knew the album contained so many samples.As a French speaker, I didn't even know you guys sampled Maxime Leforestier (who is a well known artist in France) obscure unknow song until today!Like how the f#@$ lol do u find such a song!? Then you tell how for each song it went to secure the rights, etc. If even better you can show the master where we see and hear each part, each sound track, even better but mix music with business 😉 This series should get you a lot of views. @@mattsmith1440 No worries, I usually like to feature singers but in some situations, like this one, where they are making a sound-a-like of a sample, they don't want to be featured, so we leave the release - in this case - with just Norman and I as the artists.
