I’m awaiting a call from my Dr. to speak about it all other labs, beside my Vitamin D were WDL, I work nights. Is that level of iron a course for serious concern. My GP says my iron levels are around 1,400 and has advised me to see a gastroenterologist - for which I have I have made an appointment. I don't have any of the known effects or symptoms. I am also confused as I have been having regular yearly checkups for more than 25 years - including blood and urine tests. I was diagnosed with bladder cancer about five years ago and had to go on a course of BCG (Oncotice) instillations. The cancer is in remission and I feel fine - but am now having a check cystoscopy only ever 12 months. The checks started every 3months, then every 4 months, then 6 months now 12 monthly. Prior to each check cystoscopy I had blood and urine tested. With so much testing, I'm confused as to why the iron problem was never picked up. I am a 78 year old male and weigh 66 kg. I am never sick.

Unfortunately, inflammation cannot be determined with one lab test. Ferritin, HDL, c-reactive protein are all acute inflammatory markers and any of which could be indicating acute inflammation. Sometimes symptoms have to be evaluated. And if there are any abnormal symptoms, those can be the indicators of inflamation. Hemochromatosis should be screened for with a blood test if ferritin keeps climbing.

I would make sure to do all of the iron tests, ferritin elevates for two reasons- acute inflammation, And if this is the case, you have to determine the causes and sources of inflammation. The second reason is true iron toxicity, this can be ruled out when all the other iron tests are conducted.

    • @dr.harrisonscenteroffuncti9352

Tibc is a marker to determine the capacity for iron in your body. When it is high. It means iron is low. To know the true status of your iron levels, all of the different tests are required. Iron saturation, total iron, iron binding capacity, and ferritin. Also, when there's low iron there should be an understanding of what the causes of the low iron are. With healthy digestion and a healthy diet, iron levels should normalize on their own

Your very low ferritin is dangerous. Spinach is high in plant-based iron. Ask your liver specialist if that will help get that up w/o worsening the iron level. The animal or heme-based iron, like in liver or red meat will get ferritin up BUT it will also increase your iron stores even more. Oysters are high in iron too AND they’re NOT considered ‘meat’(no seafood is). Ask about that too. Good luck mate!

The extremely high ferritin needs to be determined of what the inflammatory cause is. Infections, autoimmune disorders, etc must be ruled out. Out. Also, the bilirubin and liver pathology needs to be screened. As mentioned in the video, high iron levels will injure the liver. An additional test recommended is total iron binding capacity.- this test will determine if the iron is true iron toxicity or acute inflammation. I haven't heard of this connection, but you can look at some of the side effects via epocrates website www.epocrates.com/login?refernext=www.epocrates.com/account/profile

53 Male. My TPO antibidies are >22,000. Yes, that's not a typo, in fact they're probably higher but that's all they can measure to hence being "greater than". Luckily I don't have too many symptoms except I think I swing from hypo to hyper when my thyroid gets attacked hard and then I can't sleep for 2-3 nights and am hot and itchy all over. I'm seeing a functional doctor who has me on NDT which I feel a lot better on than Thyroxine. I would encourage anyone who isn't feeling ok with Hashimoto's to see a functional doctor.
