Ymer Boxing Day 2024
Fishing the waters of the Sunshine Coast aboard Ymer, the very original 34' Black Watch with Captain Ben and anglers Patrick and Joel on Boxing Day 2024. Saw 6 billfish with Patrick tagging two. Joel was on a stubborn black for nearly three hours and we popped it off on the drag button. He jumped a sail off on the shotgun lure earlier and we had a couple of eats that didn't connect. 5/6 bites on the swim gar at short flat.

Run through of the screen and buttons on the new Furuno FCV-800 colour fish finder and SCX-20 sat compass. The settings I prefer. Blue background and a white bottom is a carryover from the days when JRC FF50 and JRC Plot 500F sounders ruled the roost in South East Qld and local bar crossing expert and fishing coach Bill Corten got everyone to set their sounders up the same. The live bottom in l...
Shaka Shake Down Trip

First big trip in Shaka the Smithy Crew Haines Signature 540F family boat to Rooneys Point in Hervey Bay looking for baby black marlin and tuna and mackerel. No fish but boat went awesome. Really only finished it Thursday night getting rid of a fuel smell from the fuel sender and towed it to Hervey Bay on Friday. Many more adventures to come. Looking like a poor juvenile black marlin year after...

I had previously done a Facebook live walk through of Capricorn but never a recorded one. Another windy week of weather coming up so took the opportunity to take the Nikon down to the jetty this morning and make this.

Bit of footage from yesterday (March 23). For half an hour there I couldn't get two baits in the water with chop offs and fish. Some big boils on the surface and other subtle ones where we were towing heads and half fish for a bit without realising! After this Spanish the wind went NE and seemed to shut it down. Off Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast off South East Queensland.
Lyle's Almost Marlin

Lyle's almost marlin Saturday morning (March 2023)! Unlucky to jump it off right at the boat on a circle hook! This was after we had an epic bite in the Trench back in November where we saw about 15 marlin for the afternoon. The morning was spent catching mahimahi this time then we spun up a few tuna on the way home from the bait grounds.

Black Marlin Fishing on Reel Buckled

Couple of Thursdays ago (March 2023) on Reel Buckled, a 650F Haines Signature with Steve and Robbie out of Mooloolaba in South East Qld. Robbie getting his first and me keeping my eye in! Fair few bites on the livies, one was a shark, but a few billfish. Also a nice wahoo on the troll first up on skip gars which bombed the bait from above.

Hi mate. Have you got the FCV800 connected / networked to another unit running maps? So you can share sonar / waypoint data?
Can this unit run 2kw transducer?
You could connect it up but not getting the full benefit. You'd only be outputting 1kw. Need a 295, 1150 or a black box for 2kw and 3kw.
@@smithysfishing cheers, I’m thinking of going 295 with a 2kw
An 1150 or 295 are the ultimate machines but then double and quadruple the price too!
@@smithysfishing cheers mate I mite be in contact at some stage mite need help dailing it in
Appreciate the videos mate, iv purchased FCV800 TM275LHW can’t wait to get out and really see how this package runs out in the deep.
Great run through 👍
Cheers bud for the video. Loving this unit over my last 588. Chirp is so good for shallow fishing so far. Can’t wait to use it 60-90m of water, see how it goes.
Hi Smithy, how much of a difference to the trim tabs make? And do you feel the steering wheel is too low? Trying to com up with ideas to reconfigure the dash and move the wheel up.
I've had trim tabs on my last 4 boats. Don't think I could have a boat without them anymore. Wheel was fine. Didn't have an issue with it. Only major thing I have contemplated was moving the batteries to the foot well. It does sit down bum heavy. Too much stuffing around. Went with 2xnew Marine Pro 500 size batteries rather than 2xN70 size ones. Not much room in that rear compartment. When I got the boat, it had two on the floor. Duno what else you could use that back compartment for, maybe just tackle storage.
Will it be just plug and play from my old fcv 588 transducer /tm260
Definately. You'll pick it up easy and with the few tweaks Mr Furuno has made, it is a better machine for sure.
@@smithysfishing thanks mate
Hi can plug my existing 175 hw into this unit ?
If it has a Furuno plug for sure. Fully Chirp capable. 175 is a Chirp tranny.
Masterful!
Did a good job with it mate. I have exactly the same same boat I got it 4 months ago. Do you disconnect the battery terminals when is not in the water?
Nah, just turn the battery isolator to off.
Mahalo from Hawaii for the tutorial 🤙🏽 I just bought fcv-800 paired with a airmar TM275LHW. It’s still in the box and cant wait to install on my boat. I definitely will need this video when dialing it in.
Cheers. I follow a couple of channels from over there like Reel Adventures (Morris Lures), Whipsaw Sportfishing, Visions of Granders, Kenton Geer, etc. You guys are a bit more tropical than us looking at latitudes yet you get your Kona crabs there whereas we call them spanner crabs here and we have a massive commercial fishery for them. We are also probably the biggest longline port on our east coast. I run what you guys would call a 6 pack charter boat but I am more 4-5pax.
I am looking at that same combo. Did you get it working? How deep could you read with it? I'm on Oahu.
It’ll be nice if you can get some real time use and upload when the weather breaks, to see if it’s a worthy upgrade to the 588 performance wise. So far I’m feeling a little underwhelmed. Similar clunky interface, resolution is hardly cutting edge, considering it’s about 15yrs since the 585. Handy tutorial though 👍. Thanks.
The thing is it is Furuno, plugged it in and it worked and worked very well and will probably work for another 15 years and does everything I need it to do for a 2D sounder to 600m or so. Not many other units will be able to say that. Also typical Furuno, screen is not full of surface clutter. Whatever the Furuno engineers do, they do that bit better than a lot of the other brands. Can't see myself doing a video at sea, too busy working for customers but I have been putting screen shots up as I go.
mate.. made it easy to grasp, can you do a video of going thru BL and zoom etc gain etc when actually on the ocean, Thanks again

Looking good Mate!
I’m going to thumb a ride next trip 👏👏
Thank you for your explanation. Thank you for your efforts. I learned a lot of things. I use a Furuno 628 600 kW set as a fish finder. I have no problem when I use this system in Auto mode. But I want to use this fish finder manually. But I cannot print fish with the setup I made. Could you please guide me if I send you the settings I made in summary. Interference off, Color Erase 35%, Clutter 20%, Smoothing ON, TVG Medium, Tx Powere Auto, Tx Rate MAX, Gain 4.5, Gain ADJ HF 8, Gain ADJ LF 6. Why can't I print fish in this setup? Best regards
Tks v m. My 585 quit- want to replace with this 588 if I can source- is it same size as the 585- easy replace plug and play? Tks v m
Exactly the same. Just the newest version. They have stopped them now. New model coming out.
New to this so didn't understand many of your terms, i.e. too much unexplained jargon for me.
Awesome review
Thank you
Well done on the tutorial on the 588 it's very helpful. I agree with the other comment below... It would be awesome if you can do another tutorial on this.
Thanks for doing this mate , I have the 628 and it's helped me heaps
Glamour day! I had fun with the long tail tuna inshore on Wednesday morning.
Thanks for the run through on the new 588, you should do more of these type of videos with your wealth of knowledge.
A great day's fishing Smithy.
And this whole video was filmed on a shoe
what happened to the toyota fishing classic
I think Toyota just pulled back from a lot of their sponsorship. They used to do a few game comps too. Without their sponsorship, it was never going to happen. It must have cost them a bit to make it all happen.
GO DAD !!
That looks like a lot of fun
Nice
How much air pressure do you guys usually have in your tires when hauling a boat through the sand?
Less than 20psi.
his name is scott baker and his old man could round house kick you three times on one jump in real life...
Crappppp music, spoiled the video chaps.
this 1aussieavenger1 wanker is cray cray, quite opinionated to must be a pom.
you dont need low range when you have a right foot
I wouldn't underestimate a ford courier, if that's what you are doing.
First bloke obviously got his license from a weetbix box...
do not deserve to own a boat with driving like that
the quility of this film is on par or better than steven spielberg's best work
catch 22. hold my glasses. bloody good those hand winches. IM A FUCKWITT!!!!
mate great to see! just had a trip to port douglas in the stabi, the boat continues to prove and surprise us everytime we get it out. loving these vid's of it you have uploaded. We got some footage up north once i've got it edited up I'll share it with you on here! Cheers Scott
lol a ford courier towing out a luxy with a boat on ! good effort mate !
Of course a tour bus would make life better for everyone wouldn't it. Aside from almost every board on the island being broken by them and every track being chunked up. Might be time for a new career 1AussieAvenger1.

your so cranky..... pahahaha
Pahahah oh you poor little sausage...... Pahahahahahah
Towing on sand is definately for the determined. Everyone gets stuck somewhere at some stage and towing a trailer just adds to this. What I can't understand, is the sad people or "haters" as they say putting guys down for loving their sport and recreation. Tight lines fellas.
