Howard never wanted to go in the first place. He said as much on the air when Gary first told him about it. He forced himself to go (probably at the behest of his therapist). Beth said on the air that it was an achievement to even get him to go. Howard was incapable, once again, of enjoying the company of others, even those who admire him, because he is a broken man. He had no choice but to leave early because all he was doing there was suffering.

Seeing what Howard has become and how he’s Hollywood Howie now, he was definitely always trying to make things about him. Maybe it was subconsciously, but he was absolutely always trying to make everything about him, even if it was in a negative way.

While I agree that Howard is a weird neurotic shut-in, he had pretty much been giving off all the warning signs since he was working in Detroit for WWWW. He talks about how isolated he was in Detroit, that him and Allison weren't getting along so great back then, he would get take out food, go back to his small apartment and just kind of wait for the next radio shift to go back and do his thing. I think this ritual grew even stronger with DC101, it's why he had OCD.

Listening back now I don’t think Jackie was ever funny. I think what was funny of the Jackie era was everyone ripping on Jackie mercilessly then when that gets boring Nancy would call in at the right time and just make a complete fool of herself.
