John has always fascinated me, since I was a baby. As a child I imagined him as an almost inhuman being, huge, a mix between Bigfoot and a ferocious bear (my teddy bear was called Bonzo). I drove my mom crazy because I would bang on pots, lids, biscuit tins… and my dad hoped that I would become a drummer… unfortunately I have no talent for it but John still fascinates me. There are many drummers that I love but the only one I listen to every day is him, John Henry Bonham. Thank you for this Mr K, I loved it! ❤🥁🥢

Great, tasty stuff! Sounds to me like Triangle, Timbales and High-Hat in the Percussion mix. The sides of the timbales, (cascara), being played ostinato with heavy brushes and close-miked? Or that ostinato pattern could be on a "Güayo" which is a large metal Güiro played with a heavy wire brush. Occasional timbale riffs and small symbol rolls and hits are very effective. Everything is perfectly mixed and triangle is definitely in there but not "in your face". The high-hat accents are added and not part of the original Drum loop is quite obvious especially in the panning.

The snare going out of tune is a real problem in the studio, and it can't always be fixed in the mix. You can hear the snare changing pitch all over the place which makes the edits obvious. The snare detunes because Lars is hitting so hard with rimshots. I've recorded drummers where I've had to tune the snare between every take to try maintaining the tuning. And even doing that, the snare would be detuned by the end of the song. Some parts are so different, not just in tuning, but in mic placement, I suspect they did overdubs to fix stuff on different days, and may have even multiple setups. As a mixer, this can create a lot of extra work getting a consistent snare sound throughout a song. Really enjoyed hearing the raw tracks.
