@rootwad Thank you. I made some spare videos in case I can't get out. It's been hot here. And I just got home from a vacation. Went with the daughters family to a resort. Lots of time with the grandkids. I bought an ebike. So playing with that. This winter, I'll regret not getting in the canoe more.

@rootwad good for you. I am trying to come up with new ideas and camera angles for my videos. All my videos are shots from inside the canoe. They all start to look the same after awhile. Short drome shots are ok. But you shouldn't use too many. And one bank screen starts to look like the others. Filming along makes it hard to do new things. I can't wait to see your motor in action. 🙂

@markihde4381 That is great! You'll have to post a video about it. I have helped other folks with choosing a canoe setup. You should help people with answers for your outfit.

@rootwad wow!!! How the heck did it come off? I am glad you got it back. I lost my dad's ring. He got it when he got home from ww2. I have looked for it for 3 days. No luck. How deep was the water where the engine went down in? So, you never got a chance to see how it runs. Remember to break in the engine correctly. Keep me informed. Good luck 👍.

@@Ralphcanoeingadventures Gosh i hope you find that ring but don't be too hard on yourself about it. Keeping dad in your thoughts is the way to go :) The motor went down in about 5 feet of SWIFT, cold water. Some local folks really rescued me, one fella was able to get more traction and lifted it up off the riverbed. I made a donation to the local volunteer fire department in his name! But, the good news is, i got it running again, and was even able to take it out last night! I was able to do the first hour of breakin and got about 10mph out of it. Need to add more ballast and take the throttle up a little further next time :)

@rootwad Wow.. it sounds like your outfit and mine are going to be a match. I know you will love it. Mine goes 12.5 mph. The trick is getting the right amount of weight in the front. My water bladder works well. Good luck 👍

@rootwad you will love it! That motor will handle about anything you want it to do. You'll have to keep me updated on the progress. You'll have to put a video on it when you get it set up. I don't know how to send you my email with out posting it on ut.

@joricopittman1279 I was in the channel. If I would have been more out in the middle. I would have been on a large sand bar. In about 6 inches of water. I know this river and where the sand bars are. But logs move all the time.

@rootwad As you can see. I add weight in front. I have gone out without weight and it is very tippy. The more of the bottom you have in the water. The better. I hope you shoot a video of your outfit and maiden voyage. You'll have a blast with it. 😉

That is awesome! I can't wait to see your setup. I took the gimbal out yesterday and tried it. It is a little shacky but a lot better than holding the camera. I have about 4 videos ready to post. Those were holding the camera. I hold some in reserve for posting in intervals.

That water is in a creek in the middle of Cedar Rapids. I am shocked it is always clean. Going to ser my grandkids tomorrow. I am anxious to try out the new gimbal. I have watched your videos so many times. Just seeing how steady it is.

I have 2 pumps. They work just fine. Around here there are small lakes. I have taken the canoe where fast boats run. The canoe handles them quite good. Look up, Lake McBride in Iowa on Google map. A lot of my videos are there. I ❤️ that lake.

@@Ralphcanoeingadventures Nice, i'd love to see that! I'll have a trolling motor setup soon, i'm gonna cut my teeth on that in a small boring lake nearby and see how it goes. By the end of the summer i'll have a square stern & 6HP but i'm gonna work my way up to it.

I love the reese canoe loader! Easier to store than a trailer. And my canoe has a high curve to the bow, it allows me to load at 90 degrees without hitting my roof. Glad you're still getting out there @GeneD283 - see you on the water!

Thank you so much .I know how age can restrict you. I am 75, and seeing things that I use to do is getting harder. I am always looking for ways to make things easier so I can still do the things I want. Thats for your suggestion about the jugs. I have tried something like that. But they are hard to climb over. The bladder I can step on and it is low enough, that I can put things on top if I want. As you. I don't have much room in my yard. But you only are here once. So, I just work around it. The trailer and canoe are light enough, that I can wheel it into the back yard. I use to have to move the boat to get the big gate open. This spring, I widened the smaller gate on the side of the house to get the trailer though there. That made it a lot better. I have a good sized shop with about every tool and welders in it. So, there isn't too much I can't handle. In the winter. I look at my videos and remember how nice it was out on the water. Thank you for watching and connecting with me. It was the first time using it. There are a few things I learned. 1st-- I need to fill it up all the way. In the first part of the video, You can see the front out of the water. And 2nd. I need to empty 90% of the water out before I try pulling it back on to the trailer. Because I have to lift the front up to get it on the trailer. And with that much weight in front. I can't do it. Those were the only 2 things I had trouble with. Other than that, it worked very well! In one of my next videos. I have drone footage of the canoe turning on its self. Came out wonderful.

It is a 17ft. square stern canoe. With a 2021 Merc 5horse. It is all in my description for my channel.

That is kinda hard to do. It is simple. The tie breaks and the rope goes to the other end.

Usually I wear a wireless mic.. But I thought with the camera so close to me and holding it. It would work. The camera I used on this film don't have a place to attach a wireless mic. And I didn't want to use my recorder and dub the sound. It was just a short, fast video. On my main productions, I use other cameras and equipment. But thanks for the info.

Thanks for the info. I was a firemen. And was taught that number. I plan on using the water I am going to be in. And yes reverse the system to empty the bladder. I'll leave a little water in, so the trailer has some tongue weight.

I have both. If you are using an electric motor on it. A double point is fine. But if you are planning on a gas motor with any weight, you will want a square stern. My motor weights about 45 pounds. I would not want that hanging off the side of a canoe.

I also want to add. If you decide on a square stern there are things you should know. The back of the canoe will cause drag as you paddle. We took the square stern up to the Boundary Water. We didn't use a motor. Because you can't. But paddleing the canoe was a chore. A double ended canoe goes better through the water. But if you have a motor on the back....WHO CARES!!!. So you have to decide what you want to do with it. If you want to paddle it. It will be harder. But if you want to use a motor. It works great! I use mine both ways. You have to decide for yourself. No it is a trailer designed for canoes. The load rating is 300pds. The suspension it has makes for a smooth ride. It will only handle canoes for now. I guess it can be modified for kayaks. But not for heavier crafts. The trailer is a (TRAILEX) Aluminum brand. They make all kinds of trailers.

I guess it was running about 6mph. The river was being funneled through a tight area. So the current was pushing the canoe from the sides a bit. I have to admit. I was a little nervous!!.

That is what I do. Everywhere I go, I have to get back to where I started. So a motor is great. I am like you. I motor up stream and float or paddle back down. Its the best of both worlds. Let me know how it works out.

There is floatation in the front and back. It is rated for the weight of the whole craft.

Mine is a 17ft square stern. The motor weighs 28 lbs. But I have never capsized the canoe in 48 years.

I weighed the 5hp the other day. It weighed 64#s.
