    bro, I know this was so long ago, but wondering if you can tell me if you had to do anything with timing or programing or anything in this spectrum? I have a 1994 Rodeo that I am going to tackle next weekend with same issue, and everything is the same as this. Ill keep looking to see if that is a needed step though, I just hit you up first.

    • @edsgarage2.0
      @edsgarage2.0 9 часов назад

      No.. there's no manually timing or programming required... But you do need to reinstall the timing belt, so best to replace it in the meantime. And of course, that means lining everything up properly so that is timed correctly. Also... I'm sorry, but I have no idea what happened to my part 4 of the series 😢

    Cleaning and dressing the rubber seal around the sunroof panel itself will keep most of the water from ever getting into the drain lines. My '06 H3 sits out in the weather year round, and no matter how hard or how long it rains, barely enough water gets in the drain gutter to wet my finger tips. In under a half hour you can remove the sunroof panel, clean and dress the seal - and the mating surface and reinstall the panel. Much easier than spending half a day removing all the trim to clean out the drain lines...

    • @edsgarage2.0

      @@mark.gallaher3193 while I agree that's great maintenance to perform, my video isn't about cleaning out the drains... This video shows you how to completely re-engineer how the drains work so that you never ever need to clean them ever again. And no matter how much water gets through the seal, it's not going into the cabin after this fix.

    Its not a BMS, in a car its called a BECM because it doesn't do anything with out a vehicle computer module . At 3.0VDC that cell might be below the published cutoff voltage specification, a charger will not charge a cell below cutoff voltage and the the cell is generally consider damaged and its chemistry is no longer viable.

    • @edsgarage2.0
      @edsgarage2.0 29 дней назад

      @@mpirron1 yep, that cell proved to be the definite failure point. As it was the end cell of the pack, it was adhered using adhesive tape to the pack end cap. So rather then risk tearing it open, I ended up using it for the scooter pack that I built... That was a mistake. It ended up causing me to be stranded a few kilometers from home with that cell prematurely dying. So I pulled the pack apart, and VERY VERY carefully peeled that cell off of the end cap over the course of about two hours using plastic pry tools. Ever at the ready to throw it out the window should I inadvertently tear it open. But I managed to get it done. Replaced it with one of the good cells, and now the scooter battery pack is extremely healthy ☺️

    Lovely build but oh heck no, never mix up connectors. Especially not a common one like the IEC one you used for DC charging because some day someone is going to plug that into an AC line voltage cable by accident which could be spectacular. (I also have my doubts about its suitability for DC and that sort of current because the datasheets I've seen only show AC ratings and do not give any DC specs). Appreciate it's not as nice n neat but use something that's rated for DC and isn't a common, easily mixed up type, one of the big, high current Anderson power poles perhaps.

    • @edsgarage2.0
      @edsgarage2.0 Месяц назад

      @@M0UAW_IO83 that's exactly type of port used in many e-scooters. The charger that I'm using is actually for a 60v e scooter, and the cable is hardwired with that connector. No one is going to accidentally plug an AC 120 into this, because no one but me is ever going to use it. But IF the extremely unlikely were to occur, that port isn't directly connected to the battery. So the BMS would instantly cut the feed and prevent it getting to the battery as it is equipped with overcharge current protection. Also, I used a thermal camera to check the temp of that connector after 25 minutes or charging and it only got up to 42 degrees C

    I assume you posted the link in the FB thread about the ecoflow thread. That’s a pretty impressive build, but what is the cost of the battery for someone in BC? Possibly I missed it but have you included a master shut off? Something that completely isolates the battery from anything connected? I assume the Bluetooth BMS has a shut inside to give an accurate measurement of battery capacity. You mentioned the inverter has battery capacity but is t that just voltage? Possibly you could do an update video on the features? The BMS has an app? Does it has temperature shut off high, low? I was going to ask if about solar but I guess it has so much capacity that it’s not required? Only real suggestion I can say is maybe some 30a Anderson connections. I converted my portable fridges 12v cig lighter to Anderson

    • @edsgarage2.0
      @edsgarage2.0 Месяц назад

      @@crankshaft007 thx for the comment... Not sure which ecoflow thread you're referring to The price of the battery for me was free... My reason for this build was to showcase the reusability of old and ordinarily wasted EV batteries. I saved this battery from the recycler which is what I'd recommend to anyone wanting to do something similar. I haven't yet installed a master switch, but the BMS has that ability The BMS app allows me to see every cell voltage, total voltage, cell delta v, and yes it's got high voltage and low voltage cut off. As well as cell balancing etc. As for solar, yeah not much point considering the capacity of it. However it would be simple to add the ability one day. Currently I don't use Anderson connectors for anything however I agree that would be a good add for the future. Nice thing about a build like this is that it can evolve and improve over time.

    I guess its too late to say this (unless you haven't dissected the other modules) but tearing the cell tabs off what they are welded on (I guess you'd call it a bus bar of sorts, the U shaped pieces of copper) but those are likely welded on by an ultrasonic welder...so not something the hobbyist can redo....and trying to do resistance spot welding is going to be extremely difficult depending on the material of the tabs (often aluminum and nickel plated copper) There are some videos here on RUclips of people working on similar packs and fabricating compression style bus bars of their own but the question of resistance definitely exists....at the end of the day it will never be as good as the original ultrasonic weld to the copper pieces. Definitely restricts high discharge capabilities of any future battery you DIY. The best route for reusing these EV modules is to keep them together until you know what you plan on using them for and then do some brainstorming on the best way you can configure the modules to get your desired series connections by doing the fewest number of DIY series connections if you cannot replicate the original method of welding the cells together.

The battery is still under warranty for another two months and the dealership headquarters are reluctant to act on it just yet. They want to run another diagnostic in August before they do anything. The first cost me over $150. Do they think they misdiagnosed a problem? Any advice?

    • @edsgarage2.0
      @edsgarage2.0 3 месяца назад

      I don't think they misdiagnosed it... As if they can make you happy by having GM pay up for a battery, then they would most likely do it. It's free money for them as it's a relatively easy repair (about 4 hours). Consider getting a second opinion at a different GM dealership. If you can, don't charge it to full for a while, charge it sporadically... It's more likely to unbalance if you do that, which may give it a lower reading. You're very close to a "failure" of 30% degradation.

      @@edsgarage2.0 Thanks for responding! They don't want to repair it "yet" because apparently the 1 year battery warranty ran out in 2019, and we only have the 100,000 mi 8-year warranty for general issues remaining. Since the car isn't displaying any "battery problem codes" they are reluctant to fix it, even if it is running at less than the 35% stated. FIngers crossed this can be resolved, or at least a repair order started, before the final warranty runs out.

      @@riskyraccoon Update! After several weeks of collecting data of how much range the battery was providing, the dealership offered to do a second complementary diagnostic assessment of our battery. They determined that it was under performing and headquarters agreed to replace the battery under warranty! (We were two weeks away from the 100,000 mile, 8 year "extended warranty" expiring.) We will have to wait until October, but it will still be covered.

    Hey Ed, Ian here, great video! I did the math for you, that was $3560 in components you saved, plus the fluid heater and its controller, whose prices you didn't mention. So glad some great use came out of this thing and it didn't end up in a landfill! Looking forward to the rest of the series here to see how implementation goes! Wondering though, why won't you need to run coolant during use? Is it just a matter of discharge speed? I can see for the house backup not needing it, but in a higher current situation (like the scooter I see in another video) wouldn't you want to run coolant just for life extension? Maybe that's answered there, but thought I'd ask. Speaking of discharge speed, I did a little more math. The average home here uses 900 kWh per month, which comes to about 1 kW. From observation, this is equivalent to driving a Spark EV at around 2km/h (just above idle speed)! It also means the battery backup of 6 kW would last about 12 hours of normal use (assuming that average consumption of ~30 kWh is done in the waking 16 hours of the day). It might not run your oven long, but it'd be a full-power substitute in the case of short term blackouts, and could keep ten 9W LED bulbs (60W equivalent) powered for just under 3 days!

    • @edsgarage2.0
      @edsgarage2.0 3 месяца назад

      Thanks for the comment! I'm not worried about cooling these batteries even in the scooter, as the draw and charge speeds aren't enough to really heat the batteries up much. On a test run of the scooter with both my wife and I together on it going up hills and cruising around at full speed in 23C weather, the batteries never exceed 27C. As for the house... I'll probably just stick to using my car's V2L to run half the panel and just stick to using minor appliances. Other projects are coming soon. I've got a 60 volt to 110 volt inverter coming from China, so I'll be building a portable battery back soon.

    Nice! Battery hacker's heaven. Seems there are 15 series cells. If this block was to be used for a 48V application, it would require 13S (typical 54V) or 14S (Telecom going to 58V) for float. Once the weak cell is identified, it could be discharged manually to 0V, then shorted to leave the remaining good cells in the string functional and intact in their nice case. Could this be viable? Or would the 0V cell expand and create pressure on the adjacent cells?

    • @edsgarage2.0
      @edsgarage2.0 5 месяцев назад

      It's actually 32 total cells, 2p16s This module is the only one that has issue, so I'll find the bad cell and recycle it. As for the other modules, I'll be able to use all the cells. I wouldn't risk leaving a bad cell in a pack to be honest.
