Certainly in civil market in some specific countries but OEM product are mostly 50s AK grip be it Russian, Bulgarian, Romanian AKM in service, don't confuse AKM with AK-203i, a lot are not compatible.

@@KUNALBISWASVIDEOLOGS707 I have seen 50s Grip as well up close . both INSAS MK1B & INSAS Excalibur pistol grip are based on FN FAL & is surprisingly easy to handle compared to this abomination . Gotta call Spade *A SPADE*

@@patriotenfield3276 Excalibur & 1B1 both grips are not based on FAL, done the field stripping of 1B1 multiple times & it's design along fitting are imported from AKM. Excalibur on other hand had a fancy grip but not suited for many users due to it's large size, i got my hands on that far back in 2006 & was impressed with it since we had nothing but 1B1 & AKs back then, but this grip was better than all three - ofcourse i speaking for myself here.

I think they wanted to balance the orders between brands as their main troop carriers is from Ashok leyland, their armoured light vehicle from mahindra so to balance they might have given the mpv to tata otherwise it would be waste of R&D by those brands and they'll hesitate for future and that will result in a monopoly or duopoly of any one or two brand which is not a good thing But the reason might be something different too only the army knows the real reason
