Thanks for this reaction. Yes, the members left Cube last November. Then Changsub signed contract under Fantagio coz he's a musical actor while Sungjae signed under I Will Media coz he's an actor. Then in February, Eunkwang, Minhyuk, Hyunsik and Peniel established BTOB COMPANY for them to continue their group activities. So now, it's really a good thing coz BTOB is still an active group while all members are also busy individually and are doing what they really like. About this song, yes, it's about Sungjae's past and I think about the former company too, where he felt he wasn't able to do things he wanted to, he wasn't able to showcase his talents well, there's no room for growth and recognition from wider audience. Now he's happy and doing well, posting contents on his own channel, making covers, writing songs, launching a new album, doing variety shows and filming series. Thanks for the reaction! About the cube thing in the MV, yes, we (who know Sungjae and BTOB before they left cube) also think about that 😂 Sungjae was known as the visual member, and his vocal abilities were not really shown, so I think in his current agency he is more free to show it 😊

Btob member can dance! But they like to showing their vocal more then just dance. And dance song is not really vocal wise. So to show the vocal of course what they do is the best 🙌🏻💙. And when come to live performance, btob never lip sync ( because they not good at lip sync).

The one you like is the rapper, pronounced as Why-yat (spelt as Wyatt) Minkyun sounds unique indeed. He has been doing a lot of covers in his own youtube channel. The song is about a longing love that is hard to break....but being in it would turn one into a monster due to that desire, hence "Bye My Monster" is a way to get self out of that situation.....and of course the "Annyeong" in the song is the Hyojin/Seungjun very signature style of singing goodbye to this love that makes the song so lovely yet so heart-breaking at the same time. It's a work of great art in handling human emotions through music.

True Beauty is a good one to start with. That's his more typical tsundere role. He has a new one coming out next month,, Wonderful World, a completely different role than he's done in the past so everyone is excited about it. And yes, I am obsessed with Stay. This is not just any ballad, but a rock ballad at that so you don't see that often in kpop. I am proud of him for not following what's currentlly popular and choosing to do his own thing right off the bat. The whole album is an expression of this thoughts and feelings and he participated in the lyric writing. So a lot of the songs have some personal connection to his life, particularly, to Moonbin, his bestfriend/Astro member that passed away last year.

Ten belongs to the NCT Chinese unit called WayV.

KPOP industry in general and kpop fans are not so friendly with ageism, they tend to regard older groups and kpop idols are less relevant compared to the younger ones, regardless of how good their works are. They depend a lot on streams and charts, it's no longer about music, art or storytelling behind it as long as they're bops, which is sad. It's totally opposite of the Japanese market, where they highly respect senior idols and they're damn loyal to their faves. TVXQ's (or they're called Tohoshinki in Japan) fandom in Japan, the Big East consists of teenagers to grandmothers. 🙆🏻‍♀️ TVXQ has done all genres, and song like Rebel is so 'them'. Other with futuristic vibes songs like this one are Catch Me, Humanoid, Android (jp), Reboot (jp). They have many jazzy stuff too like Spellbound, Something and Truth.

At first glance you could think this is about them being proud and happy with themselves, about confidence. I don't think that is it though. I have no idea if my theory is correct, but the fact that the album is called VersuS VillainS makes me think it is not this simple. So I believe this song is meant as a criticism of narcissism, vanity, materialism and also (maybe) the fast fashion industry. "OOTD" stands for "Outfit of the Day" after all, maybe useless instagram influencers posting videos of their outfit of the day, which also promotes fast fashion. The fact that fashion is moving ever faster is the most destructive industry to the planet apart from the fossil fuel industry. The Aral lake has all but disappeared because of the cotton industry for example. It would fit to the Villain image, and you can see in the MV that they are acting. It is shown in the scene where Yoohyeon and Handong are fighting, but then the camera is off and Handong helps Yoohyeon up. The main reason why I don't think it is about confidence or their own success is the line "Driving on the highway, drunken everyday, do you feel like a monster?" and the album title. That just doesn't fit. And there was the ymenehcra account posting about touching a crown is dangerous and other cryptic messages before the comeback. It could also be a big and well-hidden F*U to the Kpop industry, like the Nightmare arc probably was. The narcissism and materialism is definitely criticized here, and Dreamcatcher have been criticized a lot themselves because of their rock/metal concept, while other groups have been celebrated for using a guitar riff once in a song. And Handong standing in front of the camera with bruises all over her legs seems to be a comment on the merciless industry as well. The music is highly interesting as well. The Rock is dirty and distorted. The song structure is not what you'd expect at all, for me it is punk rock meets K-Pop. Not their usual spiel, but a very good progression. It takes a couple of listens to really appreciate it.

We can argue about the "not really dark" part when they do a human sacrifice at the end of a satirical video :D OOTD has at least three layers - Superficial, Satirical and Story layer. The first is the most obvious which is the self-empowering, confidence boosting "we are beautiful, successful, rich and famous" kind of message. JiU calls herself Venus, a goddess and being literally "drop dead gorgeous" at the end.. And it is just soo over the top :D But the thing is they deserve it and could actually do it, but it is just not them. On a satirical layer this song is a huge middlefinger to the music industry in general and the superficial beauty where everything is all about the looks, everything staged and edited. The soundscape and parts of the M/V mimic generic girl crush concept sounds (what you do not really hear in the other 70+ songs DreamCatcher has) and the M/V redraw parts of other M/Vs. Posing with cool Cars and Motorcycles (Siyeon - Sua), doing commercial and product placement (Gahyeon), just posing looking fabulous with high fashion (Handong and JiU wearing Dior), making fake drama for more views (Yoohyeon) etc. The rap section is told from the perspective of an idol how many of them act after getting some fame. And for all the previous pictures they empathize that those are fake, and show how they actually look from behind the scene. Handong with the bruises, JiU like a boxed product, the Yoohyeon drama that ends right after the cut and the behind the scene footage and rendering shots for the other three. They also incorporate really short cuts to ensure we do not take them seriously, like the face Handong makes, Yoohyeon burst into a laughter throughout the final chorus, Siyeon laughing etc. Also the "Look at my necklace" (that she is not wearing), "look at my black dress" while wearing street fashion... Now for this satirical layer they had to adjust a bit their delivery and this is what makes this track different and this is why many who love the Dreamcatcher signature sound complain. First they wanted to not just look but to sound a bit like a traditional K-Pop girl crush song. And those filters and distortions and tuning that make a not so great singer sound good actually take a bit away from parts as we can hear their natural voice less as normally they do not use it since they are such great singers and do not need it... Also they deliberately used lifeless robotic delivery through the "OOTD this my fashion shut up no more question", like OOTD is the only thing that matters, they have no opinion about anything else, do not ask them about anything else as this is the robotic answer you get. In the final chorus they are almost laughing while singing to highlight the sarcasm. Also the overly playful mocking tone of the "I am only doing better". All in all ppl complaining about why the track is different most probably miss this layer. And finally there is the story layer where OOTD is the 1st part of a duology. Dreamcatcher members here are the villains who lure poor Shasha (the protagonist of the video, working as a video editor or graphical artist) into some kind of an augmented reality experience looking for the "crown" (aka fame, success whatever). The analogy I think is the follow the white rabbit from Matrix (along with many other Matrix style references throughout the M/V). And to appeal to Shasha they play the role of being great and rich and successful aligning with the narcissisms of the satirical layer. The way I see the story starts when Sasha searches for Dreamcatcher videos and stumbles upon the mysterious Dreamchat where Archenemy (spelled backwards, the 99th victim of Dreamcather) tells her about the power of the crown that she should be looking for luring her into this VR game. She follows the crown (drawn at the back of the truck) and at the end finds it but falls a victim of Dreamcatcher becoming the 100th sacrifice hence completing the crown. JiU even refers herself as Nephthys who is actually the goddess of death, decay, and darkness, mother of Anubis and Shasha falls when JiU "places the crown" on her head. This lore is not in the video, there were some external clues to put together this part.

You asked and I’ll deliver. 1) you definitely need to watch the trailer and teasers. It builds on what’s in the MV This is probably WAAAYYYY overkill but pardon the RIDICULOUSLY long essay. I have been meticulously and obsessively dissecting this video since it came out. *cracks knuckles* I have three main theories. He experienced a traumatic military service and it could be speaking to that. It could also speak to being taken advantage of by the industry as a child, especially. And as a queer person who kind of finds queerness in everything, I felt gay conversion camp vibes from the time I saw the first trailer. There's also the book Erotism by Georges Bataille that the director recommend he read in preparation for this comeback. It’s about the intersections of sexuality, religion, death, the sacred and the profane and taboo. (Which has ironically basically been his brand from the beginning, more or less.) There’s also the quote by Herman Hesse that he's mentioned in interviews even before enlistment from the book Demian. "The bird fights its way out of the egg. The egg is the world. Who would be born must first destroy a world. The bird flies to God. That God's name is Abraxas." People think that the feather crown is a nod to Abraxys, which is supposed to be a heretic god, both God and Satan, without a binary. I found the lyrics somewhat at odds with the MV, but maybe to condense the most basic thesis is wrestling within oneself with their guilt, warranted or not, until one finds their way to set themselves free. Dealing with their inner demons as they try to push them away, and perhaps trying to convince themselves it would be okay. Or the lyrics are from the point of view of the abuser and the video is from the point of the abused. The I think that the lyrics aren’t projecting outwards towards another person, but rather a back and forth with himself, with his conscience vs his base desires. And the lyric “I can walk like that, talk like that, play like that" could apply to all three readings, be it appearing to mentally and emotionally healthy, the training and indoctrination trainees receive to behave perfectly as idols, or “passing” as straight/cisgender. They evolve like the bird fights out of the egg to destroy their prior world to find their inner god, both good and bad, the radiant and the taboo, but it’s on their own terms, like in Demian. I have seen interviews with Taemin and read from a couple of other sources talking about the themes. They have mostly been pat, simple answers about toxic relationships and duality. But, seeing the music video, I believe it goes much deeper than that. I think that there is a specific narrative that may be too personal to share. The taboo, as he keeps referencing. We can only speculate, but these are my main theories. With the military theory, he ended up having to leave the military proper and go into the public service sector for the rest of the time due to extreme anxiety and depression. There's been documentation of idols (G-Dragon is a good example) being treated extremely badly by other members, even as much as trying to take photos of them in the shower and such. It's entirely possible he had a traumatizing time in there on top of his preexisting mental health conditions. Especially as someone who has been sexualized by being beautiful and feminine since he was literally a child in the industry, this may have made him an even bigger target than just being an idol. So one interpretation of this MV is referencing the invasive nature of an institutional (military) setting. Medical examinations, forcing violence, having a hand help him him hold up the gun to shoot it as seen in the trailer, bunks, etc. With this theory, he would have to walk a fine line because it would be criticizing the South Korean military. Then there’s the theory of being an idol from basically childhood and the ways he has been taken advantage of. He began training at the age of 12 and debuted at the age of 14. There is literally a RUclips video entitled “The Sexualization and feminization of Lee Taemin” chronicling the way adults have been creepy and inappropriate towards him since the beginning. The bunks could be a nod to trainee dorms, and he looks back on his old self with sadness and pity. The clinging to the leg of a captor because there’s no other choice. The early loss of innocence, but ultimately coming out empowered by the end. Throughout the MV, he danced in an especially tortured way after depicting memories of invasive manhandling which tracks along any interpretation. There’s clearly a story about someone vulnerable and their journey to self discovery and purging themselves into their empowered "final form.” His hand-under-the-shirt move may have something to do with a secret desire or feeling that keeps trying to get out, perhaps like the temptation of the biblical serpent. Or, as per the title, secret guilt choking him. With the skirt look, there are many keys around his waist. Perhaps this could signify that he already has the keys that he needs to “unlock” himself and they’re all ready for when he’s ready to use them. It could be a reference to his song Advice when he says “you’ll never get the keys to my lock.” Like he is the only one who holds the keys to unlock himself, kept safe on his person. In the scene outside in the uniforms near the end, there is the building of extreme anxiety with the inhaler and the gripping and scratching of his legs to try to cope and gather the strength to “burn it all down”/be his true self. The self knowledge that it must be done but he’s scared shitless. One last clinging to authority/the system with they leg, and finally the full acknowledgment that he needs to do it anyway with determination in his eyes. For the queer theory (I’m not insinuating Taemin is queer, this is just an interpretation that someone who is may have and identify with.) At the beginning he's wearing Homme Girls boxers (he's actually worn them before and they're HEAVILY featured in his album photo book) from the beginning. It could mean some sort of secret queerness kept under wraps. Then he graduates to a denim skirt but with a cross necklace, perhaps still trying to convince himself that he could return to the comfort of conformity, and finally, a skintight floral "feminine" look. Coming into his own personal expression, claiming it after the flaming arrow hits the target and he burns down conventions and embraces the taboo of gender expression. To go further down the rabbit hole, my queer headcannon saw the brief scene featuring two young people in an intimate moment in a room off the hallway, walking in on something forbidden, which he quickly left at 21 seconds. The person on the left is the person in the long sleeves featured at the 36 second mark. Some people read it as young Taemin, with old Taemin looking at himself as a child, which totally makes sense. Except when I first saw it, I read it as an androgynous girl and was kind of confused about her significance. So I could be completely wrong but I read some queerness into that brief scene as well. Or it’s just Taemin looking in on his younger self in early sexual experimentation. In the original trailer, there were a bunch of kids playing in the creek. Some were male and some female, but they were indistinguishable from each other. I even didn't clock it until someone else mentioned it. But once they were in their uniforms, there was a clear delineation where the girls were now wearing skirts, enforcing the gender roles they were previously unconcerned about. I'll also mention a content warning for racy talk. There's also a brief moment in the scene in the bunks with someone holds the head of someone with a baseball cap in front of their fully clothed groin. In the split second moment at 1:45, Taemin’s hand is seen lifting up the chin of someone. They have an Adam’s apple. Taemin has been open and has been recently speaking a lot about his incorporation of genderlessness in his art. I think that he has definitely incorporated some of those themes within this MV. Finally, the most obvious line that people have latched onto is “loving is a crime.” In a country that still has a way to go towards LGBTQ+ acceptance, let alone the Kpop industry. Although being LGBTQ is not criminalized (except in the recent upholding of military anti-sodomy laws) this could be a nod to that. In livestreams before the comeback, he spoke about how he was going to “walk the tightrope to see how far he can go.” He’s definitely toeing the line with any one of these topics. He and his team are BRILLIANT.
