I absolutely love this role ! I’ve been working getting into this role for about 6 months now. I love making content and presenting,(check out RUclips) I also have become an SDR (currently) to get my feet wet for the sales side of things . In addition I’ve also began to study coding and IT fundamentals to sharpen that side of things.. Any advice that I should know more specifically to finally break in? Finding the right company seems to be something I’m finding a bit challenging.

I’ve been trying to become an SE as a BDR since the beginning of my career in sales back in 2019 or so, and I’ve found it’s like an up hill battle getting into the SE org all at the same time trying to keep up your results as an SDR since most managers I’ve found are only focused on their bottom line. This being pipeline and overall productivity. I was actually just laid off from my job after establishing a good relationship with the SE org there as well as the managers and it’s very discouraging given all of the time and energy it took to build those relationships.

What tech challenges are typical for a sales engineer interview? I’m an experienced software dev and want to switch to a sales engineer role. I was just wondering what kind of tech challenges I should be prepared for.

Thanks for this Ryan! I definitely believe this is possible! I'm in the process of it now. I have over a decade of sales experience in B2C & I'm currently an SDR gaining those Tech Sales skills. I got accepted into a cohort with SNOW and will be getting several certifications. I believe all of this combined will give me a strong chance of landing a SE role with them. I know the natural progression would be AE which I know I can accomplish as well, however the SE role is appealing to me at the moment. I would love to hear your thoughts on this.
