Del Sol String Quartet + EEG
A 'live experiment' performed by the renowned Del Sol String Quartet, all of whom are outfitted with a Brain Computer Interface (EEG). Their collective state of meditative flow is being used to determine the course of the compostional modules they are to play, while their individual dynamics are decided by their own individual mental state. Performed at the Center for New Music, San Francisco - March 2017. The event was co-presented with Dolby Labs.

Richard Warp - Hi Def Part 1 (August 2009)
My upcoming ensemble piece! Wish me luck!!!
This is amazing
pretty smooth
I just can't. This is simply amazing. It kinda reminds me of Glass, with the ostinatos and all. Brilliant.
Good song thanks for your channel and it's content
love this song. went and got this piece for my soprano saxophone.
Ryan Robinette how did it sound. I’m having a hard time to keep in tune with a second soprano
Have you ever heard captain pugwash?......seaman stains?...master bates?....Rodger the cabin boy?...... well this should have been the theme,.....check it.... pugwash!
Awesome duet! I just got my hands on a contra alto and love it!!
Good start! If you add lighting it would be awesome! (and make it more realistic) Good luck! Gamad - another developer
+Gamad Thank you! I believe adding lighting is included in the course level, but I didn't get to that point for the purposes of the article I was writing. You can check out the context for this video in my write up published yesterday: www.designingmusicnow.com/2015/12/11/intensive-audio-workshop-aes-fabric-unity-game-audio-institute/
So you won't continue this game? Gamad - another developer
+Gamad The game was designed by these guys as a curriculum level: gameaudioinstitute.com/materials/ I'm not sure what their plans for it are, but I think they will be building on it.
alright! it is a shame, but I can't change it ;P Gamad - another developer
Please tell me where I can find the sheets for this. Me and my bass buddy need to ply this.
sorry hard to find, but you can go to marc mellits website
@@shaders3864 buy it lmao
That was cool!
I've been trying to find the first movement of this piece, but I can't. Is there a recording of it? Also how easy is it to get a hold of the sheet music for it? Cheers!
Hi Katherine - in fact I never posted the other movement of the piece, since there was some timing drift in the performance that I wasn't that comfortable with, but I just uploaded it so you can check it out: ruclips.net/video/Jm5qZVJGUEA/видео.html There's actually a mistake in the naming of the movements. The movement I'd previously posted as III is in fact movement I, called Vitesse. If you're interested in the sheet music I'd be happy to put it together for you. Would this be with a view to performance?
warpenator hi! thanks for that, I understand about wanting things to be just right certainly (I will have a listen to the new upload in a minute). The sheet-music might indeed lead to a performance of it - you see I have to put together 3 different recital programmes, and my examiners pick one for me to actually perform etc... I have the idea of having a 'fantasy/cartoon' themed one, with some jazz influences (I'm obsessed with Scott Bradley!!), a more 'straight-ahead' classical one, and finally I want to somehow incorporate my folk upbringing into the third theme... That's why I would like to see how the first one fits (this one is good but I don't think it would stand up on its own in a conservatoire!)
I want one. Will this be available? Will it work for Ableton Live?
***** - I'm glad you got the thrust of this piece! It's a reflection on a 1951 short story of the same name by Ray Bradbury about a man marooned and left to die on Mars. The tone of the story is one of loneliness, apathy and despair.
For those interested in seeing the updated, real Disklavier version of this work in progress, please follow this link: Duet for Disklavier and Brain - November update
Hi Anton I should have been more specific about this being a work in progress - this demonstration was to show the musical system rather than the hardware. I am very familiar with the Disklavier and am using one to develop the piece, and as I mention this will come to fruition in 2014, with a Disklavier. The principal of the musical / brain interaction here is exactly as it would be with a Disklavier, but I will update my comment on the posting to reflect your comments. Thank you.
Sorry, but where is Disklavier here? I see Casio. Disklavier is trade mark of Yamaha Hybrid Pianos based on real grands or upright... Direction of thinking is quite interesting, but could be realized more effective and realistic based on sound of real Disklavier from my point of view.
NPR brought me here
This is fairly minimalist.
Do*
Sounds amazing ! No you know ware i may fined the music for this ?
marc mellits' website
ah so simple. i assume you are just using absolute alpha power. You could imagine using other freq bins for the other strings and you could, i dunno, use phase coherence to change notes on the chromatic scale. Just riffin...very cool.
this is so not minimalism style there is too many different rhythmic ideas going at a time. a minimalist for clarinet would be new york counterpoint by steve reich
Joshua Lee the hocket goes back 800 years.....
It's called 'minimalism.'
@nadja1316 I'm 4'11 and I play bass clarinet! Don't let height stop you - it's too awesome an instrument to pass up if you have the chance to learn it!
Tarin Clay I agree! I started playing in 5th grade when the instrument was as big (okay maybe a bit bigger...) than me and at the time I couldn't reach all of the keys (not even low F) but I grew and the instrument didn't and now I am still playing as a freshman and have been to multiple festivals, never pass up a bass!
i just peed a little
Same!
@pinkcatcrystal - this was a quartet I put together to perform my piece. They'd never actually played together before. Stas flew in the day before the show from Wisconsin and they had their first (and last) rehearsal of this piece at 9pm that night. They are all pretty amazing musicians!
You guys are pretty good, how long have you been playing together?
@ekotar1 is it something similar to that?
this piece is simply the same part played x amount of beats off of eachother correct?
Kenton V. Not quite. There are passages where the second is a 16th or 32nd of a beat behind the first. Impeccable timing lands themboth on the same beat later on this piece.
i play bass clarinet and i could NEVER play that
With that attitude you wont
Great piece and performance!
Oh my jesus. I am at a loss for words.

Great! Love the combination of sounds and the ethereal quality.
Talk about modality. Talk about crossrhythm. Talk about rhythmic displacement. Talk about metamorphosis. SO MANY MINIMALIST TECHNIQUES!
It has an adjustable end pin so you can change it to fit you :)
Google Marc Mellits, the composer, you can get it from his website.
That was awesome. I really want the sheet music for this song. Where can I find it?
remember me the oldgames soundtrack of vertical shooter
This music is great!
