CN 3254s 5 Chime Whistle audio recordings (12/21/2024)
These are some extra audio recordings I took of the whistle that was put on Rover for the 2024 Christmas trains. That whistle being CN 3254s 5 chime. It was such an amazing sound that I never thought I'd hear with my own ears.

This was the smoothest filming session I've ever had. Got more shots than I planned for and was really happy with this. This train was pulled two GP38-2s, and I believe 2010 is an ex-Conrail unit. Can't wait for next year to see if the Reading will bring the 2102 back up there for Tunkhannocks Founders Day event. Another Steamtown holiday excursion with a DL&W C425, this time the ex-BN unit. It was freezing that day and couldn't feel my fingers. We also had a laugh when the six-axle ALCOs appeared out of nowhere and made me think I missed the excursion at myrtle street AGAIN.

I never got a chance to upload this and Steamtowns holiday trains from last year, and this year I wanted to make this December a big one. So, both my 2023 and 2024 filming trips are going to be uploaded this year, along with something else. But that something else is a surprise.

This was taken from SR6 just in front of the new sand plant thing. The traffic was unfathomable and it was like 101 degrees in the sun. Was also one of the most exciting days of my life, and I can’t wait to get the video out. Photo belongs to a friend of mine.

Just another empty local from the P&G plant... that I almost missed. I had been down at the crossing there for 3 hours and nothing had come thru. So I started packing up and just as I was about to drive off I heard the horn from down the line. In a rush, I whipped my phone and tripod out and caught it as it came thru 1 & 1/2 hours late!

Another empty local lead by GP38-2 2011 and GP39RN 2531. This was shot in Tunkhannock near the main crossing, as its bell can be heard very faintly in the background. (Extra note) I’ve never seen the dynamic brake grids smoke like that when activated. I think 2317s 2008 sound does too. But 3254s is just as iconic

Quick question: Why is 26 called the Rover?
I think it's because someone at Steamtown wanted to give the engine a name. It is officially named that at Steamtown, and I think the name quite suits him.
I was and am VERY HAPPY when I discovered that they installed the 3254 whistle on the Rover. :') Apparently the whistle sounds good, it's a shame the 3254 can't say the same. 😢
Best condition CN 5 chime left in existence. I really wonder why they haven’t thought of swapping the frame of 3254s with 3377s. As it is in better condition even though it’s been sitting out in the rain. I wonder if they’ll be putting 2317s whistle on Rover next

@@gabetrain8834 can the frame on 3254 be fixed? And if it can, is it very expensive to fix?
I believe it can be fixed, but I’m not sure how expensive it would be. Obviously Steamtown isn’t gonna do it, but I’m pretty sure someone else can. The story of SOU 4501 actually shows that it can be done. As 4501 had its frame fixed after it was bent sometime a long time ago. And, coincidentally, it’s a 2-8-2 just like 3254.

Who else likes those new cast P5s? Also this was the last video I filmed before my van suffered an electrical failure and hasn’t ran for awhile. Hopefully I can get it fixed up again.
Wish someone could customize CBQ 6315s whistle. She was a 2-10-4 Colorado type and did fan trips w 5632 back in the 1950s. Unfortunately 6315 had a miserable mechanical failure resulting later being scrapped around the 1958 time period
That is no Mixed Cast P5A at 1:29. Also, at 2:01, that doesn't sound like an NC P5A and that does not sound like an NC P5 at 2:39. You got all the New Cast horns' notes wrong. The notes of the New Cast P5A are C-sharp, F, G-sharp, A-sharp, B and the notes of the New Cast P5 are C-sharp, F, G-sharp, A, B, while the notes of the Mixed Cast P5A are C-sharp, F, G-sharp, A-sharp, and C-sharp just one octave above the C-sharp played by the 1st bell. And worst of all? THE NEW CAST P3 AT 4:14!!!!!!!! The notes of that horn are C-sharp, F, and A!
I know a lot of these are wrong. I plan on redoing these some time. This was when I first starting doing these and I have improved greatly since then.

It’s a shame they don’t run more locomotives as regularly as Baldwin 26, I would love to see 2317 doing some of these excursions
I’m not sure what’s gonna happen with 2317. It has to have a rebuild and Steamtown just doesn’t have the funds or personal to do it. If they ever finish the restoration of 3713, which is a bit close, they might be able too. But for now, it’s just nice little Rover doing the job.
@@gabetrain8834If Rover could talk, he would definitely say that he was bored with the short excursions and that he at least wanted to go to Moscow Station. And about B&M 3713, do you know how long it takes for the restoration to be completed? Or at least the prediction of this finally ending?
@ As of 3713 I don’t quite know how long it might be, but I think at least by 2030 or earlier. I’m definitely gonna be there at Steamtown when they do finish it.
Steam Town has been chronically underfunded for decades. I honestly think becoming a national historic site and joining the national parks service was a bad idea, the national parks clearly don't care about helping Steam Town. Steam Town would be better off going private.
@@JCBro-yg8vd while it was a bad idea, the NPS isn’t really the problem that’s plagued Steamtown. It’s the fact the NPS has not been getting much funding for anything, and because that they end up being to slow and anyone that’s helped them has left because of it.

They do a Christmas train from Tunkhannock to falls and back every year. I’m going to be filming it again this year. I filmed it last year but didn’t get a chance to upload it. So I’m uploading both this years and last years footage.

They had only Nathan six chimes. I did B&M 3713s six chime in on of my whistles of Steamtown videos if you want a B&M six chime
I know it not actually accurate but I’m sure we both know it would sound like that.
It’s actually as accurate I could get it from an audio recording of one. And plus it’s a Nathan six chime and that’s more than likely what they really sounded like.
@ I know but them models are long gone. So we don’t know what they sound like. We do have some sounds recordings of them things but not as good.

If I’m thinking this right, I’m one of the very few people that have gotten video of the new 3602. The rumble from those C630’s and C636 was more than the loaded freight cars behind them, which is crazy.

NJT GP40PH-2Bs still have K5LA horns before then they had RS3L Horn RS3LS and SU3L GP40Ps and P5s and F40PHs just had K5LA horns for Nj transit
