I live around the great lakes, Michigan USA. I can sit and catch them all evening in most any of the small lakes near here one after another. Some lakes don't even have a limit on size or number. makes for a fun time now and then. most locals here don't like them though.

Having grown up in Florida, we were told never to eat Baracuda because of the Ciguatera. However while I was stationed on Guam, an associate brought some baracuda to a cookout assuring me it was alright despite my misgivings. I did eat some and suffered no ill effects. So I am enjoying this video.

I've snorkeled and dove with loads of them, they are intelligent and curious and I've never felt in danger around them. There used to be one big old guy who would always follow me around on my daily swim at Smith's cove- quite fun to turn around and see the big teeth behind me!

I remeber snorkling around the caribean, decided to separate from the group and saw something long idling like 10-15m away from me, didn’t get too scared and figured it was a barracuda since they slowly open and close their mouths letting you see their teeth, but when I looked around a bit better, there were like 5-7 more and I almost got a heart attack. Luckily nothing happened but my god, its so unnerving watching them just motionless having their eyes on you.

I like them grilled, fried, or blackened. Honestly one of the best tasting fish in the ocean if you can get it fresh. You must bleed it and The flesh degrades VERY quickly after dispatch so if its been more than a few hours since the catch, I wouldn't recommend it. As far as getting cigutera, just don't eat the organs and you'll be just fine.

I used to catch these at the lake where we had a cabin when I was growing up. My Dad called them slough sharks because of how greedy they are. They are quite bony but they taste pretty good.

total BS. I have eaten barracuda on a small carribean island in Nicaragua along with a table full of others. We had enough to eat 3 or 4 meals from. no one had an issue. Have never heard of a single person having a problem. they are a pure white meat and delicious.

I remember snorkeling at St. Croix, VI, and had just timed a wave allow me to ease over a reef. I had just cleared the reef, looked up, and there was A large (to me) Barracuda just hanging about 10 feet in front of me working its jaws like they do to push water through their gills. I was stunned and then it just seemed to "wink out" and was gone. They are indeed fast!

My last deep sea fishing trip was a bust due to these ferocious hunters. Every fish we hooked was sliced in half before we could get it to the boat. One actually got hooked and we brought it in. I was fascinated by the way their teeth work like scissors when they bite down. It was released after a few quick pictures. Amazing creatures.

We actually eat Barracuda in the Caribbean...I have recently eaten it and I've never gotten a bad reaction from it. Maybe it's the type we eat. But both Barracuda and its counterpart, Grantackai are eaten a lot in these regions, because they are "greedy fish" thus, easy catch for fishermen Care has to be taken when consuming them though, because they are bony. The flesh texture is nice when grilled,, and doesn't have that " fishy" taste.

I was watching a guy fly fishing from the shore in Key Largo. He started catching little barracudas and ended up quitting when the other barracudas started feeding on the hooked barracuda. He pulled in like three fish that were bitten in half before he could land them! Never had a problem snorkeling around these fish though...

Passing on False myths. They are not poisonus or more dangerous than a shark. Any large salt water predator fish can have Ciguatera once in a while (Not exclusive to Cuda's), They do not attack swimers or divers. Large and courious Yes. Have caught several HUNDREDS by spear or line and never Ciguata. My personal bigest at 6Ft long and about 40 Lbs. And tried to get close for a shot at a 7 Ft but it swam away
