2018 F90 M5- 7 month update
I purchased this back in January for 57K…
44,000 on the odometer and now I am at 49,000. This is my 7th month ownership update.
I’ve dealt with one recall, which is a common issue. The coolant tank which was done at cost to me.(they ended up replacing the injectors)
There is a lot of maintenance up keep, but well worth it long-term.
I would still recommend it to this day and with the new M5 being hybrid, this is the last of the dying breed.
This will go down as the fastest generation .( technically the new ones are a little bit bit slower and much heavier.)
And not to mention one of the best looking ones.
I will do it a one year update.

I purchased my scat pack brand new in 2019 for 38k. Here is 5 reasons why I’m gonna miss my scat pack. This was my third place dram car and sadly I sold it to get my second place dream car. Hopefully I’ll see you guys next time .
Do your car have Android auto and Apple CarPlay?
Apple CarPlay capable
What about with the bearings rod's?
Typically not an issue with s63 that was mainly with the s85 v-10 version stopped being made 2011
How much did you buy your M5 for?
January 2024 for 57k…… 44,000 miles.
Great video looking to get mines soon and just want to be knowledgeable and you've been helpful thank you! I'm also going to daily drive, so if you can keep us update on how it is.
update again video plz
I just did a 7 month update. Still going strong. I did have one recall, which is a common issue the coolant tank which they replaced the coolant tank and replaced the injectors. I am all caught up to the eighth interval. Solid performer absolutely love this car and would recommend if you spend some money on maintenance that can’t be skipped out on. I changed my oil twice in the 9000 mile recommended window. if you do the Bmw, plan, you only have to pay for one so that’s not a bad deal to look into depending on your dealership if they offer it. Any other questions feel free to hit me up. There is a big influx of 2018 to 2020 cars being sold. Just make sure you get some thing with 49,000 or less so you can change the oil sooner and stay on top of the maintenance.
Thank you for the very detailed review. How do you feel about the Michelin Summer tires in cold weather? I am in NJ and need new tires, I am contemplating getting Michelin All Seasons.
So I live in Cincinnati so we do get snow and when they replaced all the tires when I bought the vehicle, they did put the summer tires on so I didn’t have an option at the time. It really didn’t do bad stopping is the main thing that is affected. Just give yourself plenty of room. I try to avoid driving in the winter altogether cause I get laid off and go back to work in the spring because I do seasonal work. I’m sure it snows a lot in your area so be careful if you don’t wanna deal with considered getting a used set of winter tires or something like that.
nice vid!!…if you don’t mind, can you tell me how much your insurance premium iis on your M5? because i just got quoted $2480 every 6 mos from GEICO and my driving record is not bad, its not perfect, but not bad at all
And depends if you’re married and you’re driving record. Cars like this new we’re very expensive so they’re still expensive to repair even though they are a few years old. Mine went up compared to the performance, even though it’s faster, but because of cost of repair. Recommend shopping around.
Where did you get the sun shield? Thx for the review.
Amazon, they’re pretty cheap. I’ll trying to find a link
Bro I look just like you I think you’re my dad
😂
How much did you get yours for? Im in the market for a 2018-19 M5. Ive seen quite a few under $55k thats where im trying to be.
I got mine with 44,000 miles for 57k. Just depends on the area and how many are there on the market. Make sure you get a good vehicle history report and check the coolant tank if it’s been replaced and if it’s eligible for recall
Clean! If you don’t mind me asking how much was your car?
I don’t mind at all I was eventually going to do a breakdown of everything. So the sticker with all the options was 112k in 2018. It had a couple leases on it, and then it was sold to a Ford dealership.. I guess it sat on it for a while, when I looked at it, they had it for sale for 58K I talked him down another thousand. I did end up buying a warranty for 6K. I was fortunate enough and got a nice chunk for my trade-in. I got 31K for my scat pack that I drove for five years and paid 38,000 for. a mixture of luck and patience to find the exact spec and low mileage. You should be able to find something similar between 56 and 60 just depends on the year and mileage.
I need to talk to a good suspension shop before buying the M5 because I wanna increase the ground clearance of the vehicle 1.5 inches without too many modifications. It's not gonna be that easy, but I do want something special. Originally I really desired a porsche 991.2 4S (elephant racing has those cool suspensions kit lift with bespoken parts for the 991) but they are 100k used whereas the M5 is around 60k. Not a great value for less performance than the M5. I need to find a way for this suspension thing...anyway congrats for the vehicle, it does look nice.
Thanks for your review. I think you made the longest on RUclips 😅 I have the exact same year and specs, but mine is with the Tartufo colored seats. Try the Colourlock steering wheel kit to freshen it up as it wears the most. The leather should be matte. Also, I have PPF'ed the whole car with Xpel Stealth. It looks amazing on the Donington grey color!
Nice, I just bought leather repair kit for the steering wheel. I would love some new ppf on it.
F90 has two coolant tanks; one is normal engine and the other is for the intercoolers.
I just got my F90 M5 oil changed yesterday and it states 5000 miles for next change.
That’s the sweet spot
@@BeamingForLife-zw5hz Agree. BMW most know M5s needs the oil replace sooner. My 2018 M550 used to state 8000 miles between oil changes with basically the same engines (s63 vs n63).
Spark plugs every 20k-30k, transfer case service every 30k, injector cleaning every 30k, oil change every 5k, transmission fluid every 50k, coolant expansion tank fix. This is what the m5 needs to get done and it will be reliable. Very high maintenance car ive ever owned
That’s what it takes….. I agree 100%
Correct. Some newer M5s have the newer coolant expansion tank.
@@rcauthen324 I would love to get a metal one or a billet one installed. So far so good no issues yet.
@@BeamingForLife-zw5hz Me too. No issues for me either so far.

Very fortunate I stumbled upon your video here. I am in almost the exact same situation as you were. Currently have a 23 Charger HC Jailbreak but am looking to go with a 2021 BMW M5C (43k miles). I have been researching the potential problems and issues to be mindful of so this video was exactly what I was looking for. Please give us an update after you've put some more miles on the car!
Absolutely, and congratulations
what do you do to afford the cars?
Its really hard to obey speed limits in that thing lol
😂
You're not supposed to that's the point
Im in the process of buying a 2018 f90 m5. Metallic gray. 45000 miles. Hope im doing the right thing lol
You are….. just take care of it by doing the maintenance and it will take care of you
First thing to do is remove the eBay tri colour stickers from the grill 🤮
I like them that’s all that matters. And they’re not stickers the person bought a different grill and bought the plastic inserts so they don’t fade or chip. At least he did it the right way.
pls do a vid on the suspension/ride quality and any mods you plan to do, aftermarket springs do help the m5
I definitely plan on doing a drive video. I’ll make sure to include all that. Not sure on the mods. the original owner changed the grill and added carbon fiber exhaust tips, PPF and ceramic coating. I definitely recommend the weather tech package for the floor mats because we do get snow where I live and this is a daily driver.
How’s the reliability been
Flawless but I’ve only had it for six weeks now.
What oil do you use?
The first oil serviced by the dealer it’s usually goes with 5w40 mechanic I talk to say to use that year around I know they try to get people to use a thicker oil in the summer and thiner in the winter
The car recommends 9000 miles I would honestly go much lower 5000 was kind of extreme probably 6 to 7 would still be early without wasting your money. I just don’t see how those engines can run that clean regardless of the technology.

@@BeamingForLife-zw5hz yeah I usually do mine at 5k miles I’d rather play it safe
@@Gurshh definitely synthetic was a rigid design for 5000 and regular for 3500. I don’t know where they get the 9000 miles.
