What started out as a 10 baht bag of food intended to feed fish ended with being assaulted by the local pigeons who had no problem jumping all over us to get at the food. This was one of the coolest and most fun experiences so far!

The lanterns are prepared and simultaneously released at a wat (temple) about 15 minutes north of Chiang Mai City. It was a beautiful night, and though we had seen hundreds of lanterns lit and let go before that point, we were in awe of what happened at Maejo Temple. Even after being in Thailand for more than 6 months, we had seen nothing quite like this.

Down in Chaing Mai is a market that opens up on Saturday evenings and runs to midnight down Wau-Lai road. The deals are vast and the food is plenty. When you are not over run by people on the main street, every block or so is a small off shoot fair that would be fine in its own right.
