Welcome to Dogghead Tech! A place where you can follow repairs and refurbishments of faulty gaming kit.
I unknowingly started Dogghead whilst being furloughed from my hospitality job in 2020 during lockdown in the UK during the Covid pandemic as a way to pass time, however this quickly developed in to a passion for electronics which I was able to tie in with my love of gaming. After enrolling on a rather ropey electronics course, I decided that the best way to develop and improve was to teach myself. It then became a conscious decision to launch Dogghead and start selling products on my own website after being messed around on marketplace websites which, in turn, allows me to sell kit in line with my own beliefs - To provide a quality product in a sustainable way.
I would love for you to join me on my journey that I'm only at the beginning of. One that should see me develop my understanding of electronics and develop a brand that I'm hugely passionate of.
Cheers
Matt :)

Keep it OG you can always buy a blank new shell if you want to move it to a new case.
Good shout 👍
I love this light! Never seen one like this before 😱
I say, sure, why not, do it
I think some kind of refurb is on the menu, for sure 👍
I say full refurb
It would definitely be interesting to do, as well an excuse to get a proper vinyl label printer 😅
Thanks for doing this process slowly so it can be seen in detail
No worries at all 🙂
I got here after doom scrolling through so much crap. Glad I stumbled into your channel!
I'm glad you did too 🙏 Thank you for the kind words!
Can u help me?
What sort of help are you after?

Nice, I guess it's kind of a habit and it feels good to restore things like this even if it's just cleaning
Yeah I reckon so 🙂 If someone can get some use out of it then that's a win
Also, if you're keeping the cart, it doesn't really matter what you do with it aesthetically. What will make you happy? So long as you're not destroying it, have it at your pleasure.
Good point. Someone has mentioned using a donor cartridge/chassis for a refurb, so I may do that and feature that in a future short video.
Wait!? You only have 136 subscribers? Not anymore! I'm 137! Well done! Excellent problem solving skills and applied tech skills! I've been at the electronics repair and tinkering thing for two decades, and I'm impressed. Tight editing on the video, as well. I can't wait to see more of what you get up to. Happy Holidays, friend!
Thank you for your kind words and the sub 🙏 I'm hoping to upload more regularly in the new year and create a community of people that can chat and learn from each other. Happy holidays, and thanks again for taking the time to check out the channel 🙂
Should have Nintendo printed on the board And you should be able to see that from the bottom of the cartridge without even opening it For me if I don't see the logo, its a repro cart The two different colour plastic back and front also make me dubious
Wow nice work, I would've said nope, bought a Japanese gold or silver and swap the ROM
That's definitely the most effective way to repair this kind of damage 👌 I'm currently working on a project where I've done exactly that (which should be in a future video) 😉
Please do not referbish the case or label! Just like coins, they look best when they are real :) When it comes to the board, Do everything and anything you can to keep it working great for years to come :)
Thank you for sharing your thoughts 🙏 It seems like the general consensus is to keep it original, which I'm more than happy with 🙂
Doctor there was a problem with her crack. Nice fix👍
🤣 Thank you!
Bought three controllers off you over the past year. Excellent work. About as good as new as one could get.
Hi Mark. Good to hear from you 🙂 I'm glad your controllers are serving you well! Thank you for taking the time to check out the channel and for the support 🙏 It's hugely appreciated!
Great Video, all the luck to ya
I'm glad you enjoyed it 🙏 Thank you for your kind words
I would keep it as it is!
Lovely. Would have been nice to see the label being applied at the end of the video, you know, for satisfactory purposes 😛
Absolutely! It was a shame I didn't have the label when I fixed it. I followed this up with a short to show it being finished off ✌️ The new label was definitely the most satisfying part 😄 ruclips.net/user/shortsGJLWoZm83j8?feature=share
@ ah thanks, I somehow missed the short. Cheers!
I'd leave it cosmetically as it is; if you really want to have a minty looking copy of the game... use a donor N64 cart to clean and put printed labels on, then put the game pcb into that. Best of both worlds.
Thank you for your suggestion. That's a great shout 👌🙂 As you say, best of both worlds.
Классная оптика😊
Interesting to see considering I've fixed at least 10+ GBA Pokemon games, but I'm not good at console repair. DS games are really hard for me, Game gears are fun though.
I've never fixed a Game Gear so I think I'd enjoy that 🙂 Maybe I'll do a video on one!
@@doggheadtechTotally recommend it, it's fun, I've done 5 😅 literally just replace capacitors and sometimes trace damage left from the leaky old fishy capacitors. (Just remove old caps with flush cutters) Installing an aftermarket screen takes a while, but it is fun and the results are WORTH it 👌
Love your content. You make these fixes so interesting to watch (this coming from someone who doesn't have the skills set or knowledge like you do!). Keep making content, I'm loving it!! 👌
great stuff, i have the exact same cart with an intermitant fault maybe its the same thing. Your video has made me want to dig it out and give it a try. keep it up new sub from me :)
Thank you for the kind words and the sub 🙏 I hope you get your copy working. It's a wicked game!
Why does this have like no views? Super cool, brother.
Thank you for your kind words 🙏 I'm glad you liked it.
Thanks
Can I send in my ps5 controller that has mad stick drift?? I'm in england
Hi 👋 Thank you for your comment. At this current time, I'm unable to take on repairs as a service however I'm hoping to do this once I'm able to commit full time to Dogghead. Fingers crossed its sooner rather than later 🤞
Nice vid mate! Right now I'm trying to fix some OEM joystick which lead to confusion. Maybe the lane on the main PCB make the left analog keep drifting. Who knows.
Thank you for your kind words and best of luck with the repair 🙏 Those analogs are pesky things
Sometimes I add graphite to the membrane, especially if the triggers are weak.
Thank you for the tip 🙂 I'll give it a try
Did you have any trouble with the fitment of the shoulder buttons?
The shoulder buttons went in OK however I did have to shave down a couple of internal plastic posts near them in order for it to close properly. The pitfalls of aftermarket parts 😅 It went together farrrr better after that 👌
@doggheadtech I'll have to try that. I compared them to original ones and found that the aftermarket ones are a bit longer where the back shell touches the bottom of the shoulder buttons. I ended up just using my original back shell and shoulder buttons.
@@wc7484 Ahh ok. If I remember rightly, I believe I shaved down the screw posts around the screws that are under the rubber caps on the base on either side of the card reader. I hope that made sense and good luck with the fitting 🙂
Great work! Glad you were able to save this neglected Pokemon Blue
Thank you for your kind words 🙂 It's a title I've spent a tonne of time on so was particularly happy to get this one fixed
Great work and excellent technique, thank you for putting this video out there! Very few people doing dualshock 2 repairs where I live and a LOT of misinformation on correct procedure online, especially since AssemblerGames forum went offline around 2020 and the info got buried deeper behind wayback machine and so on (there were zero viable youtube tutorials I could see on this process when I started learning the art of dualshock 2 repair in late 2019). These H variant PS2 controllers can be slightly tricky to repair for the uninitiated but its so rewarding to bring these back to life with an 18 or 19 pin connector and a fresh membrane (as well as providing an element of future proofing for easier repair if the replacement membrane dies down the line). I think getting to grips with this specific repair for H variant controllers helped me hone my soldering techniques more than I initially anticipated. From the importance of good thermal management to prevent lifiting pads whilst removing the original connector; to trace repair (when I accidentally burned some of the fpc's connector pads!); to the importance of carefully deep cleaning and removing any stray flux from the ribbon connector (to prevent ghost inputs from stray flux on the contacts), to testing the integrity of my SMD solder joints using both a multimeter and the tweezer "wiggle" test. Even now most retro game shops near me claim they don't seem to have any other guys that do Dualshock 2 refurnishment/repairs. Even though I'll lose my little niche as a result, I really hope the knowledge on correct repairs keeps spreading. Videos like this really helps set the record straight. Thank you!
Awesome insight and thoughts 🙂 Thank you for taking the time to send over your feedback 🙏 It's hugely satisfying to not only repair a device but future proof it too. It's a shame that these devices are not seen as "worth it" by a lot of repair shops, but with a some know-how and some inexpensive parts they can be brought back to life. Thanks again for your kind words ✌️
Thanks for the content, not sure if retrosix sells these boards, then just moving the components to the new board. All the best with the channel.
Spoke to soon, you mentioned the replacement boards haha
A replacement board would definitely be the most effective fix 👌 It would certainly have saved a tonne of time 🤣
Found you as a recommendation. Thats a lot of work enjoyed the video and subbed straight away look forward to more interesting videos like this
Thank you for subscribing and for taking the time to watch and comment 🙏 I'm glad you enjoyed it 🙂
Nice
So satisfying watching the clean up 😍
Excellent video mate 👍 repairs like these are skill enhancers and patience builders. I'm glad you caught the error during editing and decided to go back to fix it Bravo!👏
Thank you for your kind words and for taking time in watching the video 🙏 It definitely tested patience at points 😅
Wow, master at work! I believe people would still buy and play it (me included). To best mark the work input, I'd make a small sticker that'd say "kintsugi" or "sashiko" to mark it as repaired and as is! But Wow man, this was a heckton of work O,o congrats. Never subscribed this quick!
Thank you for your kind words 🙏 Great shout on the sticker idea! It could be a really good indicator as to how intensive the repair was 🙂 Thank you for the sub too, it's hugely appreciated.
Dr. Pepper is great, but not for GameBoy games.
Absolutely 😂 Dr Pepper is definitely not compatible!
Can I ask where u get the replacement label
There is UK based ebay seller that sells them 🔥 Search for 'Pokemon blue label' on that platform and it'll be the top hit. Failing that, there are some sellers on Etsy that sell reproduction labels too
Some questionable soldering here and there. But overall really good! How much could i snag that game off of you?
Agreed, it's certainly not the tidiest job but I'm glad you enjoyed it 🙂 Thank you for taking the time to watch it. A friend of mine is taking it off my hands for a token amount however I do have another copy available on my website, albeit it worse cosmetic condition. There's a discount code on the homepage too ✌️
I haven't touched a Wii in a solid decade but I still want a Yoshi wiimote now lol. A Yoshi PS5 controller would be more practical though
Exactly what I thought as well when I started working on it 🤣 It's found its way in to my own collection ngl. The colour scheme would look awesome on a PS5 controller 🔥
@@doggheadtech lol a man after my own heart
Wow! Never seen this kind of wii remote before. Very cool!
Awesome stuff as always! Keep it up sir!
Thanks brother!
😍 so satisfying to watch! Your skills are mad
Trims tutorialnyo ngaB⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is pretty relaxing to watch. I love it
Thank you for your kind words 🙏
