Born & Raised As A Jehovah’s Witness: My story and why I left
My name is Sammie. I was born and raised as a Jehovah’s Witness in Los Angeles, CA. I have been out of it for a few years but the effects have lingered. Everything has felt like a domino effect and the only way I can think to stop it is by taking control and telling my story. I am not use to speaking publicly or into a camera. This was my first time telling my story out loud, so please excuse the delivery. I’ll try and do another part soon
This is something I’ve been putting off for years. It was something I needed to do. It did resurface a lot. I have been struggling since making it, but I’m going to post it anyway.
Because that’s what I’m all about right now: feeling the fear and doing i...

I apologize that you were hurt by a distorted ideology of Jesus. I pray that He encounters you in a loving-kind way. Jesus loves you and nothing that you can do will make Him love you ANY less.

Through all these experiences, can the behaviors demonstrate to you the inner heart of these people? Just pray that your heart and eyes open to God's will and purposes. You have a tender and broken heart and I feel God sees this. Just dont let these things harden you sweetie.

You are born with the circumstance, thats why its hard and glad you made out... One day out of the blue they knock my door, abit very sus, the third week they invite me for meeting.. I say no. Now think back of it, they first week asked me "do you believe in miracle from disaster like a bad government", I did say yes, there's hope for anything. If I say No hope, Im sure they will blame me it's my fault and brainwashing me lol. Odd, why they still come for me when i say yes, theres hope == baiting me LoL. Should I block their contact number?

I was a cast member of the “True Love” dramatization at the 2012 regional convention in front of 20k people. Fast forward 12 years, I’m divorced, out of the religion and not looking back. I was an elder for 7 years, regular pioneer for two and heavily involved in Regional Convention planning, overlooking Circuit Convention assignments and speaking at both regional and circuit conventions. Public talks in my regions congregations in my 15 years of MS/Elder service. Served on many judiciales and let me tell you, these men are sick. I stopped several of them in their tracks in these committees when they became overly invasive. Okay I’m done. Keep going. You’re strong and your experiences help so many.

I studied with the Kingdom Hall from the age of seven till I was fifteen. My mother would take me and my sister regularly three times a week. My father never took interest but he would sometimes go to the circuit assembly with us. My mother was baptized and even after she became ill with cancer she stayed faithful up until her passing. My sister continues to go currently but I don't know if I will ever return to studying with them. Though I never experienced anything as bad as your testimony, it did keep me grounded. Thank you for sharing.

THe bible students said a hundred years ago that organized religion is a scam and a racket to get money. They commit false prophesies and false teachings and most religions do the same thing. The bible says that Jehovah will destroy the leaders of the body of Christ, this means that if this is the true religion those governing body members will probably die. But then new leaders will be put into place, kinder, more loving men and they will not lie or decieve or cover up their own sins but be responsible. IF this happens I want to be close enough to see it, but not so close I get struck by lightning or a hail stone. Elders will receive a terrible blow, seeing their mentors taken down. In order for you to put up with the witnesses you have to lower your standards and expectations about them but also know they are going to get hit hard. You could soften the blow for some, maybe keep them from becoming atheists. Sorry about your youth experiences, "Children deserve a CHILD hood." Good luck in getting some justice.

I know a JW girl whos husband gave her a black eye on her wedding day and the elders told her it was her fault. She had her wedding ceremony at the Kingdom Hall with a big black eye. Ive never seen anything like it.

Dont feel bad, i attended Kingdom hall meetings for 30 years and never got baptized because i had a cigarette, or didnt want to carry a no blood card, and about 500 other reasons. According to the elders i have heard the Watchtower preaching and i have rejected the truth and i will be destroyed by Jehovah at Armageddon. Finally i got in a big fight with the elders and got booted out in 2011. I ended up becoming a Catholic. Now the elders hate me more than ever. Im no longer welcome at the Kingdom Hall.

I didn't leave yet, I'm waiting till I'm 18 cuz I don't want the drama but I feel like it's gonna be sooner cuz I'm not baptized also I'm not saying yes if someone asks and you all know how pushy they get especially for the teenagers. Always remember there is nothing wrong with you. Your innate wisdom had been hidden by the JWs conditioning and limiting beliefs during your formative years. Against all odds with what you experienced and even with your family, you knew JWs was man made and our Creator could not be represented by these people from what we learnt about Jesus at those meetings. Now you are free and I know it’s a struggle. My advice as a one who disassociated is to focus all on your two children and what will make you happy. Belief in a future heaven creates a present hell…Also recommend ‘The Enlightened Gardner’ by Sydney Banks instead of any professional therapy as a diesel shortcut to your healing. ❤️‍🩹 My prayers go out to you and your continued strength sis 👊🏽

The last two lessons where over, what happens when we die. I told them straight that I don’t agree with their, we just go asleep teaching. Then I found almost 20 scriptures suggesting that your souls are resurrected immediately after we die. Like Luke 23:43 and Revelations 6:9-11.

My heart goes out to you, and I’ve forgotten some of the shit you’re struggling with. My story pretty much parallels yours. As a kid I always knew something wasn’t right with what I was being told and I felt like I was a square peg. The sexual abuse, brainwashing, shunning, etc., is rampant among the JW’s as it is with any fundamentalist organization , but they deny it at all cost! Blind sheep! I could go on, but I want you to know this………. You’ve done nothing wrong! Your circumstances that caused all this shit was a result of this nefarious religion. You never received any help from any responsible adults, not just family ( as they were sheep thinking they were doing the right thing) but the organization itself! I hope with experiences like yours and your sharing with the world it opens others eyes and makes them realize they’re in a cult. This is a global phenomenon happening in the organization. I’m 62 years old, I left in my early 20’s ( although I left way before that emotionally and mentally) and I want to tell you IT GETS SO MUCH BETTER ONCE YOU LEAVE this organization. I was fortunate in that my parents eventually left the JW’s after all of their children rejected it and they realized their children were more important than any man made religion disgusting itself as divined by God . I also encourage you if at all possible to get help thru counseling with someone who has experience in religious abuse . The damage that’s been done to you is not who you are, but what did happen to you. It will always be part of your history and it will pop up every so often in your subconscious, but you do realize now that regardless what’s transpired YOU ARE A SURVIVOR! YOU ARE STRONG! And even thru all the negativity and tragedy you’ve still found a love and passion for what makes you happy and gives you joy! YOUR CREATIVITY! I encourage you to pursue that whenever you can in your life. YOU ARE THE AUTHOR OF THE BOOK THAT IS THE REST OF YOUR LIFE! I wish you much love and happiness!

Sister you weren't in the wrong! Because the Governing Body took advantage of your ignorance early in your walk with God, having you believe that you must earn your way for your possible salvation based upon their laws that they doctrinal for you to believe. Twisting God's Word , even to the point of finding excuses and reasons that they can add and somewhat words in God's Holy Scriptures. For example our Lord Jesus Christ says in the book of John he Who believes on Me shall Everlasting Life. It dosent say maybe but Shall! Amen!

At around 20 min I couldn’t help it anymore: you deserve so much better than what’s happened to you because of your family. I’m so sorry you had to go through that. I’m so sorry you don’t have your son with you. You are brave for telling your story because opening up and crying and admitting you don’t have all the answers is so difficult. My heart hurts with you. I know I’m a year late but I hope you are doing so much better and continuing on your path to healing. Thank you for speaking up for other apostates like myself. I woke up 2012. I just her say sacrificed her baby to Jehovah on the alter. Now the blood practice is now allowed. Those who wake up is can be emotional bc what was a Because what you believe was the truth is a cult. It check the blocks to be one. I was upset bc of all this time I put in this cult. Baptized 16 and this when the nightmare began. More and more I saw no difference than any other religion without the shunning. Sweetheart for give yourself forgive those who transgress you and unload. Armageddon is symbolic. All religions is easy to create. One you need a God, words and a fear teaching. No one was born with a book attached to our booty. We are born free spiritual beings. On a journey to live and learn. The divine creator is inside of as us the body is the temple and the kingdom of God is inside all of us. Death is an illusion bc if there’s physical body and then it have spiritual body is the what we really are. We live for ever bc we more the spiritual than the physical.

I too was born and raised in as a JW. I'm sorry you had such a painful past. Please know you're not alone. The hardest part for me was having to come out of the closet because both sides of my family are JWs. There's a point in life where your soul tells you to do what you have to do to survive and live. I didn't care about losing my family and I know that may sound harsh but I had to be myself. So I came out at 24. I can relate with having to deal with the brainwashing as a child. Believe it or not, I just realized three years ago that the JW religion was a cult. I'm almost 40 years old. That just tells you how strong their tactics are to make you feel fearful.

I've actually never considered the pressures of having both sides be jws. And yes I feel like fear is already a human rooted emotion but to be taught it falsely and have to undo it is something different. Thank you, and I hope you're hanging in there <3

Thanks for sharing. Absolutely no need to apologize. You handled yourself well considering, takes a lot of courage to tell your story to the world. I was raised catholic, but somehow the believe never stuck, recently my cousin divorced, they were also in a kind of cult (seven days something...), after giving them a quarter of his income for many years now they set a lawyer on him to force him to do two things: pay his wife and children an allowance monthly, AND keep giving to the cult what he used to give them... somehow the constant pressure drove him very close to offing himself, luckily he still has a child that insisted on staying with him and that kept him going... amazing how greedy and vulture-like these 'christians' tend to be... no way there's a god looking down on that bunch... Nicely worded: it's a business, they're in the business of brainwashing people into giving them their money, and on the interpersonal level, they don't even do a good job at making people feel they 'belong',
