Howdy peeps, horror fans and physical media collectors! I'm throwing it back alllll the way to 2002 with this discussion and review of the "period piece" known as Fear Dot Com. This one has truly eluded me since it's release all the way back in the early 2000's. This was also a majorly weird time period for horror. The time came and I was finally able to watch this one with Dark Star's new blu ...

Howdy peeps, horror fans and physical media collectors! 2000 was one of the weirdest years for horror ever. Truly. There was a giant lull in titles and to be honest with you, more of a year for thrillers than anything else. I was 13 when it came out, watched the doc they made for the movie so already knew the background of the witch and children plus rustin par. I 100% thought it was real for about a year or two. It scared the crap outta me. I love every way they filmed it….the cameras they used, no hollywood sound effects, zero jump scares (which isn’t horror) and the 2016 Blair witch was jump scare infested. Also like how they filmed it in the fall…makes it look better. The 2016 movie they’re walking on a trail with like mulch on it….looked so fake and all the green made it less scary. I’m the one who pitched the plot to Artisan for the 2016 movie. Pitched to have a family member and friends go out looking for one of the three from first movie. But didn’t add that it would stay dark or have 10,000 jump scares. Actors were horrible in the last movie also.
Oh wow, thanks for watching the video man! And totally agree, I thought the same exact thing about BWP. At that time, as a kid I simply didn't know any better. It "was" real to me and I think that feeling never really goes away. So for me, that is just special ya know? So cool you pitched 2016! For whatever it means, I happened to have loved that one🤣. Appreciate you watching, dude
I have a couple thousand movies on VHS, DVD, Blu-Ray and 4K. If it's something I have nostalgia for from the old video rental store days, I have to have it on VHS and I watch it on a CRT. The art is also usually way cooler and displays great like you said. And if it's a favorite, then I also usually get the Blu-Ray or 4K because I like to have the option to watch it on my home theater setup with amazing picture and sound. Horror is interesting because some tapes are very expensive and in those cases a Blu-Ray or 4K just makes more sense. It's all good and I love collecting physical media! The biggest problem is always needing to find more space for your growing collection.
Oh goshhh, space is becoming a massive problem🤣. Especially with a growing VHS collection. I totally agree with you dude, and I'm definitely double dipping more and more as I get more titles in.
If I'm going to go this route I'd rather just get DVDs instead because I won't have to get a VHS player and an HDMI adapter. Also don't want to rewind before putting it away.
Haha, I feel you man for sure. For whatever reason, DVD is my least favorite format. I think I think the opposite where as if I'm watching digitally, I'm going to just go blu ray, if and when possible. VHS has a different vibe for me, and hits better.
Damn bro way to knock out a bunch of grails in one fell swoop!
Dude! I’m also a teacher and I’m a union leader at my school. I live in Hawaii. I’m originally from Jersey. It’s cool to connect with other fellow teachers who are also horror fans.
Hell yeah dude! That's what's up! I'm so curious how teaching's like over there. Appreciate the love, brother!🤘
Wow the gate 2 shipped fast they told me a week lol enjoy ! Love the artwork on that one. Great haul on here too.
Thanks, dude! Tape is awesome😃
So...Your 3 reasons are 1)price 2)availability 3)box ? Kinda underwhelming. You could say something more substantial like: fullscreen aspect feels more authentic for 80s horror, or that blurriness and lack of detail makes special effects look less fake.
I appreciate the input and thanks for watching! Definitely noted for future videos🤘I'm still a noob to VHS collecting, so finding my footing. So many new thoughts and ideas daily lol.
Hello there good video, what film is on the right of you with mouth open on front cover?
Hey Nick, thanks for the good vibes and watching the channel! That is the big box edition of Tourist Trap directly from Full Moon!
@@MylesofHorror Thank you for the reply!
I'll say this, there's a lot of horror films that have a certain appeal when it comes to VHS, and the top of the list is the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, to me it adds to how creepy that film is, and I feel the same way about Halloween and pretty much all films from the 80s, but I also appreciate having a surpirrior disc option with 4K if I'm in the mood to watch such a film, and yes, of course, it is amazing seeing these films in 4K because most of the time, they look so gorgeous but my main reason is because some of these films are very expensive to try to track down on VHS that I don't always like pulling them off the shelf out of risking any kind of mishap. Dont get me wrong, I do watch my expensive tapes, but it is nice having a good disk to pop in when I get the itch.
Dude, very well said. I didn't even think about the movies that may indeed be out on 4K, but the VHS is outrageously pricy and rare and hard to track down. Really good call. And I'm with you dude, I loveee going back and watching some of those mid to late 70's and 80's horror movies on VHS. There's such a charm to it all. I think my biggest point is that there is so much being put out on 4k these days that quite simply is cool, but for me wholly unnecessary if I have it on VHS or another format already. Especially when it comes to cheaper options like The Convent. Thanks for watching, dude🤙🏻
@MylesofHorror yeah, I'm not a 4K purist, there's a lot that I'm happy with having a dvd or a blu ray of, that said though, there's nothing like pulling a tape off the shelf and hearing all the noises of the VCR and holding the case in your hand.
I almost bought this on eBay the other day lol. Trying to hold out for a 4k set though. I’ve only seen the first one😱.
Hahaha, dude we are literally one. Starting to think if I took some Activator substance, you'd be what came out of me. Yeahh, I'm holding out hope too for suree🤘🏻. If they did a box, I'd get it in a heart beat.
So many sick pick ups dude. The majority of those are insanely clean! S Tier haul!
Huge fan of Sammy’s earlier albums 😂
I need to check this one out. Probably going to try and grab that bluray!
First ❤
Haha, definitely agree! I was so pleasantly surprised by this movie. So much fun!
I was 31 when this movie came out and we got stuck in the second row I felt nauseous and my neck was killing me because it was nearly sold out
Very cool! 🤘🏻
They are so super sweet!😁
Man those are so sick! I need to quit sleeping on those custom tapes.
Dude so sweet lol. I want them all😆
That cover art is beyond amazing! Will definitely need to check out more from Death by VHS...
Duddee, legitimately beautiful lol. Definitely go check him out!🤘🏻
Lots of great movies from 99 in that list man lol
Haha yeah, mannn. I've thought more about it and definitely some solid titles😂. But overall a down year comparably.
@MylesofHorror great video. My copy is still on the way from Diabolik. Apparently, the standard editions came in late! Looking forward to watching Curse then the festival cut.
@@TheNickSweat Appreciate that, man. Thank you! You gotta let me know what you think when you watch the festival cut, it was really special for me. And thanks for watchin, dude!🤘🏻
I hope this gets a North American release or comes out to stream
I knowww! I want it to happen so badly for a ton of peeps😂🤘🏻. BUT, there are also just so many bangin overseas releases, so i'm glad I invested in a region free. Thanks for watchin, dude!
Your list of "shitty" 1999 horror sure had a lot of great movies in it.
Lol, maybe you're right. There were few fun titles, but I think comparably it was a down year overall for what I prefer! Appreciate you watching, dude!🤘🏻
Man, you stated thst you were unsure if they were even original releases, is not a good thing when spending on ebay for tapes. Friday the 13th has a few different releases and it's important to know which ones are what. For example: part 1 and part 2 have 2 different early releases, being that the original first releases of them are in gatefold cases(standard slipcase sized, but with a front cover flap that opens up to take the tape out) and the second release (still early so say 81 or 82) being a standard slipcase. Then they were released again in 1988, then again in the 90s and those are identified with the red gateway logo on the back of the case, it's hard telling which releases you have because you didn't show the backs of the tapes very well but the 1988 releases have a barcode on one of the spines and tape label will be dated 1988, as the original releases don't have the barcode. I'd say over all, 200 was a little high, especially if you have a mixed bag of different releases but unfortunately that's the name of the game, and part of learning the hobby, if you're happy that's cool but be careful about getting bamboozled, it can happen very easy with collecting tapes off ebay.
Hey man, appreciate the detailed response! This was super helpful and I'll definitely be looking more into the minor details of the game moving forward. I think the reality is just that it's gonna take time to learn all the ins and outs, but I'm definitely happy with the set! I need to check the editions, but like I said they are definitely in great condition and getting the whole set was special to me🤘🏻
So many thoughts! I love all the picks guys!! Krampus is definitely my favorite Christmas movie it is sooo good & such a vibe ( low key agree it’s better than Trick r Treat although I love that one sm too ) they’re also remaking idle hands which makes me so sad even though Finn Wolfhard is writing it I’m still super apprehensive because that one is such a classic!!
Oh shitttt lol, that's two of my favorite people coming in with the hot take that Krampus is low key better than TrT! This has me shook lol🫶🏻❤️
Krampus was a great pick for the season. Nothing gets me more in the mood. May have to throw that one on soon!
Dude awesome picks! Great video and show, as always🤓
I’m so jealous of this collection of F13 tapes you got! I need to get the rest. That price is fair. It’s nice getting a complete collection in one shot. Jason Takes Manhattan is my favorite Friday film hands down.
Oh hell yeahhh, dude! It was really nice to grab them all together lol. I agree, I thought it was totally fair especially how clean they all were.
Heather's notebook was on the website they created in connection with the movie. While it's no longer online, that website was as much about how to make a website that tied to the movie as anything being done today.
So interesting! Yeah I remember that they did the website and dedication and all of that. What a wild way to promote the film and just truly a picture in time that will last forever. The vibe simply can't be replicated. Thanks for this nugget of info!
I'm an absolute GenX babe. My roommate and I lived near an independent theater that was actually failing at the time. We were cool 20 something baristas and clubbers. The theater in question was on a main thoroughfare in the "arts corridor" until the bridge project that shut that entire block down. Along came this little independent film with it's ingenious marketing campaign. This dying niche theater in Baltimore was the only place showing it in town. The dying restaurants and bars around it were suddenly inundated by tourists who wanted some tapas. The complete closure of the main corridor to vehicle traffic became an absolute boon to the businesses that had been starving as it was a pedestrian paradise. The theater completely renovated. Instead of running midnight shows of German expressionism to a few random art students it's now a beautiful showplace. Long story short, Blair Witch ripples out in ways many people don't even consider.
That is suchhh a cool story, thanks for sharing! The entire pitch, project and existence of the film was such a moment frozen in time. It's hard to really describe what the vibe was like back in 1999 but it was truly special, regardless of how it holds up to modern standards. A landmark film no matter how you slice it. Thanks for checking out the video!
sold out damn it (as I post this, which is just as I first watch this which is where I first hear about it).
oh region B - not THAT big a deal, but being able to use the original disc sometimes over here in the states would be nice
Dudee, appreciate you watching and glad you found out about the movie here! Although it still will be region locked, Second Sight is re-stocking this limited so definitely keep checking back on the site. They updated the listing and made a note that they are going to re-stock.
I was 29 when it came out; I had seen the TV ads months in advance and the Sci Fi 'documentary' "Curse of the Blair Witch" about two weeks before it came out and was totally fished in and believed it was real. I saw it opening day. The theater was packed...there were even people sitting on the floor in front of the screen. I imagine the fire marshal loved that. It was one of the best theater experiences I've had. People were gasping, cringing, shrieking and breathing hard. I watch it every year at Halloween. I'd like this release, but it seems to be expensive and that may put the kaibosh on that.
Dude, you're really bringing me back to the theater experience when I saw it also lol. What, that must have been such an incredible moment frozen in time being in that theater! Like I said, I was 13 and my dad took me to see it. It was one of the best theater experiences of my lifetime also🤘🏻
I love this movie. I think it was pretty creative of these college students to think up this documentary style horror movie.
100000%. And to go all in with the pitch and website and all of it is just a moment frozen in time that can't be replicated lol. Just so awesome.
@gaylemalone5897: Idk if the producers were in college at the time. The actors were (or one or two of them, not sure if all three went to college).
That film is not even suspenseful. I'm still annoyed that i paid to see that film.
Haha damn! Appreciate you watching, man! Like I said I haven't seen it in many years but it scared the piss out of me when I was younger. Maybe it won't hit as hard this time around lol. Planning on watching the festival cut Sunday night🤘🏻
fyi an upcoming hardcover book you might want to pick up is - Videotapes From Hell: A Visual History of Cult, Collectible, and Crazy Video Covers. Including a foreword from beloved cult director Joe Dante! Out in January was supposed to have been out in October but got pushed now until January looks like. I preordered this back in April lol.
Oh sickk, I'll definitely check it out man thanks! And so appreciate you hangin and watching my vids man, the support means the world🤘🏻
Also Barnes & Noble have it on preorder Amazon does not probably due to release date being bumped. Enjoy the channel and videos 👍
Watched the 2 1/2 hour documentary today was really good but disappointed no interviews with the actors. Watched the Festival Cut it’s only a few minutes longer but cool they had different cuts available. Hopefully these cuts make it to USA releases so others can see this instead of being region locked. Great limited set glad I picked it up.
I absolutely have to watch it lol. It's on my immediate to watch list!
Lots of sick tapes in that haul bro!🔥
Dudeee, hell yeah lol. Some awesome goodies!! More on the way🤣
Hell yeah dude glad they all came to you in the condition they shipped lol. Don’t worry I’ll keep an eye out for more vhs for ya! 😎
You rockkk🤓. Much love!!
The Terminator, Alien, and Halloween. I do like Killer Klowns, though I haven't seen it for years.
Hell yeahh, great choices! Halloween definitely falls in that category for me also lol. Terminator og or 2?
@@MylesofHorror First Terminator that's the scary one.
Which of the four have you watched most??
Definitely Killer Klowns, for sure! lol
I had bad fomo with this lol I ordered one from orbit last night. Can’t wait to check this out! Also, May is so good!
Dudeee, I'm so glad you decided to get it lol. I was legitimately shaking opening up that journal. I've never had a reaction to a piece of media like that before lol. Just a "wow" release
Whenever I really want time to fly by while on an 8 hour stint at work, I immediately pull up the V/H/S movies. :)
Oh, hell yeahh lol. Love that. Is there a specific movie or movies that you find yourself coming back to all the time?
@@MylesofHorror Don't watch too many movies any more to be honest. Only what really grabs my attention. It's been only a couple of years, but I did start visiting Theaters again for whenever I hear about a film that really arrests my curiosity. I recently checked out Heretic, which was on the heels of me checking out Smile 2.
I have a lot of movies that I go back to: Friday, Nightmare, and Halloween entire franchises; Child’s Play 1-2, Texas Chainsaw 1974, Night of the Living Dead 1968, Evil Dead original trilogy, Witchboard.
Ohhh, those are some great ones!! Child's Play for sure for me, especially the later ones that are just pure fun lol🤘🏻
Dude I couldn’t agree more with your picks! Those are all so re watchable. You couldn’t be more right about the mindless watching on those. All of them are so fun! Mine is obviously fright night from the sheer enjoyment I get out of watching that one.
Hell yeahh, dude! I gotta hear later some of your other rewatchables lol🤘🏻
Always a blast man! I will continue to buy used whenever I come across deals!
Hell yeah dude, this show was awesome! Such a fascinating topic lol. And I mean it when I say there is NOTHING wrong with Ebay.
The Haunting is so good 👏🖤
Right?! One of my favoriteee from the 90's lolll🖤🖤❤️
Sick bro. I’ll be there on the 30th
Hell yeah, thanks for watching dude! Much love🤘
Sick pick ups! I want to get those Carnosaur tapes!
I need to snag this set. I only have the scream factory release of the first one. I’ve also never seen the second or third. Sick set!
My son loved the Goodebump books . I love both the Goosebumps movies 👌👌
Never heard of this movie going to check it out . Boxset looks really cool 👌👌
Oh, it's a great movie dude! Totally check it out.

@@MylesofHorror I picked up black eyed Susan I had read about it in a fangoria magazine and heard it breaks all the barriers in a movie I also grabbed blood tracks.
@@detroitsound9364 Sickk, dude. I picked up Black Eyed Susan also and sort of really excited about it lol. I like the idea that it's a contemporary modern horror. It looks pretty wild.
