    Great video, thank you! I started to learn knots just a few years ago and I've found that I barely ever tie or use the Clove Hitch. It's not reliable and can be a pain to tie, obviously depending upon the anchor point. I find the Spar Hitch far superior. The Spar Hitch is stronger and more reliable than the Clove Hitch, much easier to tie when hitching to trees or poles and I've not had a time yet that it's let me down. It's all personal preference I guess.

      @@ralphguilly Both are doable but non screw tops require a lot of practice, plenty of people have injured themselves trying but it is still done by a few professional sideshow performers. Even a screwtop can give you a nasty cut if you get it wrong.

    the rolling hitch should be tied like a midshipman's hitch, not a taut-line. in your video, the second half-hitch (5:34) is tied slightly wrong, it should be between the first half-hitch and the standing end (this makes an awning hitch). your picture at 5:22 is of a midshipman's hitch, not a taut-line hitch. the difference is explained on animated knots page for midshipman's hitch if you scroll down.

  • @jack002tuber

    Very good stuff. I agree with all of it. You don't need to know 100 knots, just one of each of the bend, loop, taughtline, etc I have found a way to tie two ropes together using a bowline. And even a double bowline

  • @jimmyconnor5358
    @jimmyconnor5358 2 месяца назад

    Bowline combined with Taut Line Hitch seems like it could be good for hoisting stuff into an attic? Please lmk if you have any favorite combinations!

    • @ralphguilly
      @ralphguilly 2 месяца назад

      Think the Bowline / Taut line hitch combo is the one. Having a rope that is secured on one end with an adjustable length on the other end is just so useful.

    I object about the non critical part of the clove hitch. That is a typical knot in climbing to anchor yourself. That is about as critical as anything ever gets (your life is obviously depending on it).

      @@michaelthorne455 mostly true but not quite. At a belay station you will normally have one rope under tension and one with slack to avoid both being cut in case of rockfall.
