hmm... maybe while cleaning some particles got stuck inside instead of coming out. Please use a can of compressed air with thin straw. Use on keyboard and underneath key. Please let me know if this helps

Nice comment. I would say these keys arent easy to break if you pull them up properly but it's true you could break it if you're not careful and so the keycap remover, the long one that doesn't scratch keys would be a safer bet, at least for the smaller keys. I too personally rather use damp microfiber cloth with a bowl of hot water to clean keycaps, the very soft kind for like cleaning glasses or screens, it's faster than bathing them in water and soap since you should go one by one to wipe and clean every keycap separately after that so might as well get to that step right away, esp. when it's not as horribly dirty, if it is, then bathing them for a bit might be better if there's too much dirt.

I know this is the established truth, but I've never experienced any trouble removing them by hand. I'm mid-40s and work as a developer and a gamer outside work, so I have consumed a lot of keyboards over the years. The need for the tool depends on the build of the keyboard is my assumption. Or they are selling you this tool you don't actually need, which is correct for me.

@@zeffster2 I would just say, what should be quite fair, that the chance of breaking it is a bit higher without the tool, and yeah it does depend on the type of switch and keycap, these keycaps have these two tiny legs that can break, its the kailh choc style of switches but a bit modified, stuff like gateron switches however are more durable I would say. Also the tool is quite useful for removing like a single key between many others, for example the "H" key, or something in middle of many other keys, but yeah, other than that, it isnt crucially necessary, its just nice to have and it doesnt cost a ton.

What tool?

External keyboard I want to say you can almost always take off they keys, but I can imagine there's some slim portable keyboards for maybe iPad and you cannot take off keys on every external keyboard. This was a preface for me to say that on many laptop keyboards you can take off the keys, but you would have to check youtube for that laptop model or ifixit.com

damn, that makes sense.... lol - i think the most difficult part i have understanding is the pliers... like i know it can slice wires... and like do plier stuff... but idk what else it does.... another thing is that on the blade... these's a cut, i think that's just for easily opening with thumb, but maybe it's something of it's own.... btw the scissors are so sharp that when I go to staples to mail something, i can glide the scissors through papers and make that sweet sound... so satisfying

"For this keyboard - it's very safe and straight forward" BUTTT Yes, I would wiggle it a bit. That loosens it up. And when it feels safe, then you can pull with pressure, making sure it's not too much at an angle. I do the same thing when I'm unscrewing a screw. Instead of just rotating - I would first wiggle it in place a bit to see if I have a good grip and the screwdriver doesn't slip and strip and wear off the top. So essentially wiggle it until it feels right to pull it off. As for some laptops, I know that for example I asked the apple genius how to take off a key on my macbook and he said "for your specific model" you would lift up the key and then kind of open it. so yes - there's definitely a chance you can damage the key depending on which mechanism it is. Gaming and mechanical keyboards are safer to open than laptop keyboards - and lol less to lose : P

interesting. yea - i guess dishwasher soap could also work. take off the grease. dishwasher soap is gentle so i guess it wouldn't wear off the markings. Good point. Will keep that in mind.

@@FateOfRpgBird I'll normally use a similar method. Place the keys in a plastic tub with some gentle hand soap/dishwashing soap, give them a little soak and agitate a little, then rinse off with water and let them dry. I've heard of also placing them in a bag and drying them in a clothes dryer on low heat but haven't done that personally. Done this about 3 times with the G815 and the markings are still on and pristine.

Oh, I bought it from Amazon, I would link it, but I seriously don't recommend it. You are faaar better off buying those cans of compressed air. These vaccums don't have any pressure because think about it, it's a fan that's rotating, but compressed air will release so much pressure from a straw.

@@aspireforchange6793 The funny thing is that - I bought it refurbished/used from amazon. Upon receiving it - I noticed that the serial number at the back was covered by a sharpie. I thought at first maybe the battery life doesn't hold up or something. But it runs perfectly. The price I got it for was maybe 60% of what I would have paid new. I'm grateful that I have it.

I was reading online and it's supposed to be 3 parts of DILUTED 70% isopropyl alcohol and 7 parts of distilled water. I'm gonna make that video today I hope

nice!!! was it because I mentioned that you would use rubbing alcohol on the circuit of the keyboard? I did so because my brothers keyboard was recently water damaged and dried. So I was like - nothing to lose here - used rubbing alcohol on the surface using small cloth and voila! started working. Please share your story. Thanks for the comment
