Oh and when they finally confirmed our rooms they weren’t ready for over 3 hours, one couple had to wait about 12 and didn’t get their room until night. This is after a long international flight and we all had our luggage.

I'll give you some history on the rooms. First, those sockets are for lighting, they operate on a 5A circuit dedicated to lighting, all lamps had round pin plugs. The single socket at the entrance is the "cleaners socket" which bypasses the relay and always has power, which means it'll work without the card being inserted into the onity box. Those bedside lamps have little tabs you can pull to angle the shade, causing light to shine outwards, they also swivel, so you can tilt and turn them while in bed if you're reading. Minibars used to be stocked with various miniatures, sweets, cans of cola, etc - yeah, all automated but there was a slight delay, you could actually remove a miniature and if you were quick enough put something in its place to trick the system. They did have USB sockets, they had multi-purpose sockets which would accept various types of plug, which was crazy because people would plug their Amercan appliances into it, not realising it was 240V and not 110, there's no transformer! They were completely pointless and poorly thought out. The USB sockets would make a very hard to hear, high-pitched sound due to capacitors in the insert constantly charging which some guests complained about, I could hear it but a lot of people said they couldn't, also some of them melted! We had to replace the inserts with standard UK sockets - the Malmaison had the same issue, it was common to get complaints and guests would ask them to be switched off, which meant power to the attached socket (all one unit, socket & USB) would be lost wehich tended to anger guests even more..thsoe things were dangerous. Lastly - the controversial Sub Club posters, some are...kinda strange, can't say too much or the comment will be black-holed! A lot of guests loved them, others not so much and we were once asked to take one down one of Jonny Rottten gobbing at the crowd by a very angry guest! "I don't want to sleep under a photograph of that man spitting at me!" You are right about things not being so well thought out, those rooms are the result of a refurb that took place back around 2011 , the older furniture & fixtures, although worn and dated, were of much better quality although getting rid of those horrible old trouser presses was a great idea. I could write a book about this place, lot of happy memories and made a lot of friends, met a lot of great people. The hotel went into administration shortly after the refurb, new owners bought the building and a new manager took over. It honestly went downhill a bit after that, he made a lot of odd and pretty controversial changes and wasn't a nice guy, not very popular - old GM was a legend, though, most of the staff were great. I miss the people and the job was fun, a lot of changes sisnce I was last there...great video and review.
