Great review!
Great tutorial. I just bought one and never used one. Your tutorial was easier than the directions. Thanks!
kreg is made cheep now days and sold high . thair leting thair name talk for them . people look around. this most have bin a good one that why thay do not make this one any more.
Thanks for the demo. To ensure the holes from the top down on the front row and the back row start at the same position, I suspect you draw a line across the piece of wood, the width of it.
Thanks, Great explanation
Is it necessary to drill the holes all the way through the wood? I don’t want my holes showing on the outside of the sides. How deep should the peg holes be drilled to avoid drilling them completely through the sides but still support the shelves? Thank you.
Hello Kathy! I used 3/4” plywood and so only drilled about halfway through and it has worked well for several years.
hey brothe4r, I'm a retired Major (Army) and this is well made. thank you
It looks like the fence also secures the router in place. Right? This unit is on sale now 8-18-21 at Rockler $64 instead of $80.
Hi fellows. I think you need to take some time and take a fast tour on Woodglut website.
Your using a Rigid?!
Would have liked to see how you square the top of the jig to your workpiece. On any shelving project the first hole is the most important. How far down from top can be tricky to get exact on each verticle shelf board. Too bad you didnt show your ideas
I mean, it looks great and everything but why would I buy one of these for £40 when I can get something that does the exact same job from Veritas for £180 or Festool for £350? Oh, wait... 😉 Great review.
Good video. Clear, simple and concise explanation. Thank you.
Great job 🙏🏼 thanks
Thank you for putting this on video. I’m inspired!
Great tutorial!
Video - 👍, audio/mic setup - 👎🏽
Good call on the 5mm pins. Thanks.
In nowhere in this video do you demonstrate how to line up the second set of holes to ensure they are perfectly horizontal. Kind of a huge thing.
As long as you place the jig in the same place on birth sides it will come out equal. In this case I just butted the jig up to the top/bottom of the vertical supports.
@@westcottworkshop569 It appears that it is better to have one of the top or bottom support in first to reference from. I tried to just reference from the bottom of the side piece which seems to be problematic.
Who else is blowing the sawdust away at 2:20? Good video, thank you!
Appreciate video content! Excuse me for butting in, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you considered - Mahorrla Wooden Paradise Method (erm, check it on google should be there)? It is an awesome one of a kind guide for building better sheds and woodworking minus the normal expense. Ive heard some great things about it and my close friend Aubrey after many years got great results with it.
Thank you ! now I know how to do it.
Very good explanation.. thanks alot .. i was wondering what were the sizes of those bookshelf that you were using.
I'd have to go measure them but they're probably about 5 feet long, 3 feet tall and 11 inches deep.
You did a good presentation! More thorough for me! The only thing I recommend is to include the 1x3 attachments!? I have mine all set up and it does a great job! Thanks for the video!!
Good video. Gives me some inspiration for the bookshelf in my future. Also, I like your OCC tshirt!
I just bought this table from amazon. As usual, I don’t read the manual, tried it out myself... then I kinda get stuck on how to put the trim router on... Thanks for your video I got it now! Haha. Lazy guy...
Great video thanks
You should put one of those little vinyl shed windows next to the door so you could open the window and slide longer cuts out the window
How long it took you from start to finish to make that bookshelf?
Most of the work can be done in a single day. Finishing the project properly can take a few days though.
Thanks
On Amazon, a user posted a review that says the distance from the end of the jig to the first hole is 1/16" different than the distance from the last hole to the other end of the jig. If you turn the jig around to drill opposing holes, the opposing holes won't line up. Did you find this to be the case with your unit? The person who posted on Amazon may just have gotten a poorly molded unit.
Hello Will. I just went and measured mine and they measure the same from each end. I've never had any issues after turning mine around so maybe they did just get a bad unit.
@@westcottworkshop569 Thanks Tim.
I saw that review. If you look closely at the photo, it seems his tape measure is not flush against the piece on one photo. Either his tape measure is bent or he is purposely trying to smear the Kreg tool.
Great video, How much for the Honda 70s...
Thanks Mark. Never getting rid of those bikes, haahaa. Way too much fun!
Used mine for the first time and was really easy to use. Highly recommended.
Really well made review and product walk through. I especially liked that you showed an actual project and how you used the tool. Very nice added touch there. Thank you!
Thanks!!!
How you align the opposite holes.?
Good question. I didn't cover that. I started drilling each side with the jig sitting directly against the top of the bookshelf case. I did the same thing all the way around and all the holes were in line.
You can use a spacer block to rest the jig on.
Great Video! If painting your project is it advisable to paint after the holes are drilled?
So low. Hunch over?
Yeah, It was a little lower than I would have preferred but I didn't want the top to be above level of the window. Still fully functional though.
The last set of pins are too close to the edge In the back of the cabinet. If you decide to put staples in the back the pins may hit the staples. He should have turned the jig. He loses half an inch when he uses the edge portion of the kreg jig if you do not turn it.
Hello Stephanie, you are correct. Spacing is difference between the two sides of the jig. I chose to use the closer side. I have 7/8" between the back edge and the peg holes. My shelves have an open back so there are no staples or brad nails to get in the way. If I ever decide to put a back on the shelves I would just make sure that I use staples or brad nails that are 7/8" or 1" depending on the material I use. Thanks for commenting and great observation.
Thank u, you explained everything clearly. Very good instructional video 👍
Good video. For those who may or may not know, the Kreg self pin jig comes with either a 5mm drill bit, or 1/4 inch drill bit. Either drill bit will work on the same shelf pin template. So for example if you purchased the jig with the 5mm bit, you can purchase the 1/4" bit separately, or visa versa, allowing you to do both sizes of shelf pins. The best part is that both drill bits, safely store on the back side of the jig along with the locating pin. This is a great tool, I have drilled thousands of shelf pin holes with mine, it makes this task a real no brainer.
I have the dewalt 611, I’m so sad how hard it is to find a table that will take the 611. Tickler has a new table that will but they don’t ship it to Canada 😐 so I was looking at this one for making cabinet doors, just routeing 1x4 tongue and grooves do you think this table will work? Thanks
Hello Natasha. While the Dewalt 611 isn't meant for heavy use I think that it would do fine. My only suggestion would be to not do the whole cut in one pass but rather two (or more) passes.
I don't care where your wife parks.
Nice review! I'm about to pull the trigger on one of these as I have a small patio where I do all of my wood work (which also doubles as a little hangout & BBQ area so all of my tools need to be put away and taken out like your situation). One thing I noticed is that there aren't any guides on this table. I'm wondering what would be the best way to mark the center of the router bit to this (when I get mine, I plan on taking a ruler and lining up the fence as close to the center of the router's collet and drawing a line on the table as a point of reference, but if anyone has any ideas please share!)
Nice explanation. Thanks!
Sorry-it's Brenda Weatherall. 😁
I was watching videos to see if I wanted to buy the Kreg shelf pin jig or make my own. Stumbled on this one. On my TV, can't see the description, missed the beginning. Kept thinking, “that guy looks like Tim Westcott.” Did some research...it IS you. Very well done! Keep up the good work!
haahaa, what are the odds? This whole thing is a bit of an experiment, but its been fun so far. What are you building?
Bookshelves! Plus redoing my closet to make better use of the space.

Great job! I'm waiting to move so I can get my new table saw. This book shelf looks doable for me. I might build a smaller one first. My daughter is an artist and feels as though she has to own every art book ever written. So yes, we have a lot of books!😁 I can't wait to see what you build next. And also, thank you for explaining what you’re doing, so us newbies can actually learn.
