Beware of that ultra sensitive lcd display- it’s a scratch magnet!!! Put a screen protector on that f..er! I had to learn it the hard way.
I have a 70-200 2.8 and get great image quality
I had one of these for about 8 years and loved it. At sporting events I used it with a 70-200 on a second body. But as I got older the weight started to be a little much for me. I switched to a 200-400 f4 IS, and carry only one body. Oh and I paid $4800 for mine used and sold it 8 years later for $3500, so cost of ownership was about $160 a year. Not bad.
thanks a lot
Excellent video. New sub :)
Nice review thank you for your time
I agree with your statement about getting better results with the 70-200L+2x compared to the sigma 150-600.
THANK YOU FOR ALL THE GOOD INFO
That's a tank of a lens. If I hit the lotto I'd love to grab a 600mm f4 L some day.
If you do get version 2. It's sharper and does significantly better with extenders.
Моя мечта
Think of it as cropping but keeping all your megapixels.
It's still expensive
Hello David. Can it cover Fujifilm GFX 33mm*44mm sensor? Or will it vignett a lot?
mine came with a charger.
ISO in photography logic is suppose not being flowing when shooting or in a same roll of film.
A very informative video. I'm considering getting a used IDXMk2 as they are great value at the moment, around £1319.00 Pounds for one in good condition. An R3 on the other hand costs over 5 Grand!📷
Good examples with panning and camera maintenance. Genuine review and overview that is authentic from an actual experienced user.
Will my R5 be able to move the heavy glass ? (With adapter attached ofc)
Fantastic video
Hello! Does it have Focus by wire or is the MF really manual? Thank you for the nice video
Thanks for the review. Just purchased a brand new one and looking forward to enjoying it for many years to come.
This is actually a very good video. The biggest point is, that these doesn't get serviced anymore.
Great Video, especially me being a year late but with the1DX MKII which just arrived today sitting in front of me as I follow along with your tour of features and enjoying your commentary I'm more than excited to take it out into the field and see what it can do. It arrived from MPB in with all it's original packaging, Canon battery and charger, looks brand new without a mark on it and with a shutter count of only 6,168. Total price was $1585.00, I think I did alright. Thanks again, Cheers my Friend . . .
Ant plans on selling 400mm
thanks - interesting review. Is there anyway you can increase the sharpness of images thru the settings?
That was an awesome review that I was just inquiring information about it the way you take pictures with it and how fast it goes. It's amazing. I really like that, does it take EF lansesprobably not probably takes a lenseswhich helps you get perfect pictures.
I’ve just bought a 1dx mk ii with 20k clicks on going from 90d can’t wait for it to arrive I mainly use my camera for our horses as we train riders and horses for showjumping and dressage loved the 90d for the 10 fps but had problems in lower light my favourite lens is the 28-300 usm is l do you think I made the right choice
It's one of the best DSLR Canon has ever made
Hey, so I ended up on this video again, its one of the better ones for this model. I have not bought my 1DXii yet, but I have a job in a couple of month's time that I will get this model for. The prices are now crazy good as well, one can get a 1DXii second hand in Europe (good condition) for just over 1000 Eur, so yet another reason why I will NOT go mirrorless any time sone, its just throwing money down the pit 😅
Such a fantastic camera. I’ve been wanting to own one for years, and I finally picked one up yesterday.
congrats! :)
I've just bought a mint, used Mkii with only 34,000 actuations, to replace my beloved IDXMki. The fact it's almost identical to the Mki is a definite plus. I bought an R6, and then an R3 some time ago, but was massively dissapointed with their autofocus, which was inconsistent. I take mostly motorsport photos, and one week at a track, the R3 would perform well, with a hit rate of 80%+. The next week, at the same track, with similar cars, sometimes the same corners, and similar light, the hit rate struggled to get much above 50%. And this with the same settings as the previous week. I've since sold the R3, but kept the R6. When I switched back to the 1DX, what a difference! Hit rate 80%+, no matter the conditions or light. And, like you, I like the heft and robustness of the IDX range. They really are built like tanks! Oh, and 20mp is plenty. I recently sold a print (approx 6ft x 2.5ft), from my 1DX, and it was still tack sharp, and great detail, even at that size.
The 1DX series cameras were built to last!
is there a color difference between 1DX and 1DXm2 ?
@@malayneum I used the Mk2 for the first time, yesterday, at a car rally and, to my eyes anyway, the colours seem more natural and accurate with the Mk2, especially grass.
When you’re hand holding? You are much bolder than I will ever be. Your the.Man!! Well done…
Teleconverters work best on fast primes that they are matched with...the same brand. They were never meant to be used on zooms. They were also never designed to drag in something a half mile away. They were designed to fill the frame with something relatively close. Oddly, in my experience, a 2x works better if you are even closer than when using a 1.4. Probably due to atmospheric interference. Overall, I have pretty much given up on 2xs, even on my big primes. Image quality nearly always suffers. 1.4s on the other hand are valuable tools, and I always have one in the bag. They work very well on primes and reasonably well on quality zooms.
Thank you for the video. Canon and Nikon manufactured 2x converters for us mainly in order to use it with 2.8 tele lenses. It’s a great alternative to solid long lenses. I use it regularly on my EF 300mm f/2.8L IS II USM. I know the combo is not as good as a solid 600mm f4L prime however; it’s not terrible either. I mount the combo on Canon 5D Mark III or 1D Mark IV. I can confidently declare; the AF is great, so is the image quality. I have already admitted it’s not at par with the solid 600mm f/4L super tele lens. But it sure is a fantastic alternative to that. I’m a hobbyist wildlife photographer and I don’t need anything more than this. I’m planning to capture a sprinting cheetah after its prey somewhere in Africa with this combo sometime in future. At home, I’ve already captured fast actions at very high shutter speeds and manageable ISOs of birds that I photograph regularly in daylight. I shoot owls at night with the bare lens lighting up the subject with a flashlight. Sometimes add 1.4x III with it. Yes, I use the Camera + 300mm + 2x rig on a sturdy tripod or monopod however, hand-carry it as well for short periods. Thanks again.
Obsolete tech in a used camera body. A $ 1500 R8 can outperform it in several depts. great solid old camera, but it doesn’t hold up to scrutiny…just my thoughts….I guess if it meets your needs, then great
Okay…
This is hands down one of the best reviews on a camera I have ever seen. You’ve absolutely sold me David! 😅And you‘ve got a new subcriber 👍🏻
Bro is this still worth buying in 2023
Dude it’s fucked that you can only use certain lenses. I had no idea before I bought mine. I was planning on using it in conjunction with my 70-300 DO lens, buuuuut I can’t. My 70-200 works, but damn I’m disappointed.
I was planning to do that too, with my 75-300. How come it didn't work (as it's the same EF mount)? Could you please describe the issue?
That's a fair and honest real life user review. Thanks for sharing. The fact that you bought yours used is perfectly fine. But it amazes me, that first buyers don't let the charger and all smaller parts go with the camera. Canon is NOT good at supplying parts for second hand users. Kind regards.
What about softness on the corners? I asked about getting this lens and a guy mentioned the softness. For me, it’s the center…can you speak to this?
I wonder if a better alternative is to just crop the image in post?
I have this exact extender, but I can't join it with my EF Sigma 50-500mm lens. Could I get around it with an extension in between the two? If so, do I have to get the official Canon extender, or can I get away with a 3rd party one?
You can use a macro tube to make room and attach a lens that is not compatible without it. But you may not be able to focus to infinity. You don't have to use canon extenders, third party may work. It could potentially work better. But it will most likely work lousy. It will most likely look cool through the viewfinder but when you look at the photos you'll find there is no additional detail. You could have done better shooting with no extender and just cropping in post, or up sizing in photoshop. Teleconverters are usually great with very sharp primes, but not so good with zooms. It can be worth experimenting, especially if a friend can loan you the converter, but shellig out good money... I would not do it.
Is it compatible with canon 2000D EF 75-300mm
I just bought a 1DX mk1 in good condition for under £400 with battery and charger the shutter count is approaching 1million the camera is still going strong I believe you can have the shutter replaced by canon these cameras are workhorses.
Hello. It's surely much better than the large zoom. I had one and it was poor. Regards
I bought this one off craigslist a few years ago. I have never regretted having it, and you won't either. I just couldn't spend the money for the newer versions, and if you don't mind the weight (get a hefty monopod) this lens is amazing. You won't regret having it for field sports, especially if you shoot high school football in the poor lighting.
ruclips.net/video/Ka3ap5eid7U/видео.html As a professional wire service sports photographer, the RJ-45 is most often used to connect the camera to an FTP site for live transmission of images to remote editors (wired LAN mode). I've used this many, many times when covering marquee events where your position is fixed, and the venue or league drops an ethernet line near the shooting positions, like World Series, NCAA Final Four, Super Bowls, etc.. There was a post season baseball game when I was so in sync with my remote editor that I had photos of a player who hit a home run uploaded, captioned and posted on the wire's client site before the player had even completed running the bases. A wired Ethernet connection remains much quicker and more reliable than WiFi, especially in a crowded stadium.
i don't need it but i want it right now :)
I thought that was a great video. I do agree with you on the mirrorless….There’s a lot of great things about the “latest and greatest”, but it’s not established yet..irs a ton of $$ in my opinion which will more than likely be out run in 5 years, where as the 1dx goes back to the basics… the basics have been established for years..the 5d mark it is definitely a great camera in fact the 5d mark ii is still great..the problems I have with the 5d is that it is too slow, the 1dx I will buy later this. month, I think it’s a great camera …I just walked around with my child for 7hrs at the zoo, took 1568 shots with the 5d iv, I can imagine what the 1dx is going to do…thanks for the review again
Could you not use a canon WiFi card David?
David what a great video, I have 4 canon 1 dx mark 2, I was in Kenya 6 months ago, and boy did they deliver, I am not selling them any time in the near future. Thanks again David you are great to listen too.
