The Dangers of Roadside Livestock Being Hit By Bikes
For clarity, I did not hit this sheep as you will see from the video, however if it’s not already obvious, the risk of hitting sheep or other livestock roaming free at the roadside is immense. Always be vigilant and mindful that animals of any nature are easily spooked and highly unpredictable and can easily have you off your bike. I’m not suggesting this sheep was hit by a bike, it could have just as easily been hit by a car, however having personally witnessed how some bikers disregard the risk of hitting livestock and fail to reduce their speed around livestock and the lack of apparent external damage to this sheep, I would strongly suspect it was a small, light vehicle which killed th...

    I first rode Hardknott in 1977 on a Yamaha FS1E. My mate was on a Honda SS50 with an undersize rear sprocket and we had to push him up the steepest bits. I did it again on my Ducati Scrambler 1100 two weeks ago and I'd forgotten how challenging it is in parts. It was a Sunday so it was also a lot busier. Higher potential for embarrassment but also help, if needed. Got through unscathed and, if I'm honest, quite pleased with myself. Great video. Thanks for letting me relive my journeys.

    It's definitely not just live stock, by the traffic lights there, there's a sign and some of the dry stone wall is down, i pulled that down after being first on scene to a bike accident, the air paramedics couldn't get the stretcher over the wall... Bikes get bikes in trouble sometimes.

      Yes they certainly do, how was the person you assisted? I once came across a horse rider on this stretch of road who had been thrown from her horse after a car passed her too closely and spooked her horse. I just saw some flapping hi viz in the dip to the nearside, below the level of the road. I stopped the car and much to my surprise there was a lady who had been there some time and who couldn't move. No phone signal so managed to get some assistance from a local farmhouse whilst my wife comforted the lady, they suspected they knew who the woman was so rang her boyfriend who then turned up with his father. The ambulance was incredibly quick at getting there considering how isolated the location is, thankfully she made a full recovery. 👍

If not save the GPX file on your desktop or similar, open up Basecamp and then import the file into Basecamp. Then after connecting your XT to the computer export the GPX file to it, either as a track or route, depending on your preference and that should be it. On an Android device, (such as my Samsung Galaxy Tablet) with OS Maps or OSMAnd installed it’s a much simpler process, you can simply open the GPX file directly from the Tablet into whichever mapping software you prefer. You should fit EITHER the clip link OR the rivet link, not both. Even though it is possible, it is bad practice. In fact on a bike of the capacity and power of the 701 you should not be using the clip link at all and use only the rivet link. It is likely to avoid getting involved in this kind of bodge up that is one of the reasons the Triumph dealer refused to work on your bike. A good independent dealer would have sold you a new chain, cut it to length and riveted the link for you, which is how the job of fixing the mess you created should be done.

      Ideally get a 701 2018 onwards as the engine was improved from that point. However from 2022 onwards (I think it was) the 701 had an interchangeable map switch for normal riding mode and enduro mode. Just be careful buying used in case the bike has been abused and then dressed up to sell by putting new plastics on it to make it look tidy. Look at the condition of the wheels for dints and scratches, check the underside of the engine if accessible for any signs of damage from off-road activity. If you can buy new, do so. Husqvarna often have interest free options on their bikes so keep your eyes peeled for these offers. 👍

    • @701Adventures
      @701Adventures Месяц назад

      @@leehughes9705 It most certainly is. I kid you not, the bike can do everything you ask of it. I have used mine for commuting, weekend leisure rides with mates, I’ve toured on it and of course I’ve done some off-road stuff on it. I sold my GSA 1250 and bought this bike in 2022 and have absolutely zero regrets. Obviously it’s not as refined as the GSA but if you can put up with a smaller tank etc then it’s a good way to still enjoy riding but at a lesser price. 👍

    It's clear from this that the dealer is focused entirely on themselves. From the comments it seems that main dealers generally instil this ethos in their staff by setting targets designed to penalise anyone who does not comply. Fair enough you might say, it's a business after all. It's just a money making enterprise where help=£££. But surely a bit of advice or a list of independent dealers or workshops wouldn't kill them. It's not as if it's business they wanted anyway. Or are they happy with the negative press that this type of unhelpful attitude tends to attract? Reputation in a competitive market is everything and regardless of what anyone may say about the business model that this dealership is following, it's reputation has just been dented. Let's see if they do anything to address it?

To reiterate from my perspective, this video was never intended to generate hate towards this specific dealership regardless of how disappointed I was with their approach and attitude to my predicament. My personal experiences previously have always been positive with various dealers where they have been very helpful so this experience was alien to me.
