I don’t comment on videos much, but I feel compelled to in this case. Around 4:35 you’re talking about the autogyro and you say the propeller “is for cooling the radial engine that powers the rotor above the cockpit.” This is wrong. Nobody knows exactly how gyrocopters fly, but the one thing that all gyrocopter people agree on is that the rotor blades are unpowered. Christ alone knows why they spin and even He doesn’t know how the thing makes any lift. What is accurate is the enormous Wright 975 radial engine, which produced between 300 and 450 horsepower. If you want to get more than 30 knots in an autogyro you’ll need at least 300 horsepower. The Pitcairn was hugely overpowered, and it was capable of almost 60 knots running just as hard as it could.

Very good job I like the man I like the car and he does look good in it. I hope he’s still enjoying it.

Where's the 300hp 390 V8???????? The 300hp 390 had a 4-barrel carb(4V), NOT an 2-barrel(2V) as pictured. If you are going to mis-identify the engine, what not say that it was a 410 or SOHC 427? That would be more dramatic. lol

It's good to see a little history on the CHEETAH. As a kid about 9yrs old,I got to take a short ride in ANAN GREEN'S CHEETAH around Burien where hid dealership was located.My dad had involvement with the SCCA.I was lucky enough to see some pretty cool stuff when I was a kid.

I saw one on the street in Detroit, on a corvette stingray chassis with the stingray interior, in the early to mid sixties, and I freaked. I’ve loved them e you ever since.

Beautiful old Mercury. I hope you take it out on the interstate and run it up at about 70 -80 mph for a few hours and let that old 390 get some of the exercise they were designed for, if you tires, and brakes are good! I bet that old girl would still hit 100 mph with no problem.

Beautiful! I read in a article a long time ago that Ford stopped making the 390 around 1969? But they had made so many that they installed them, mainly in trucks, up to 1979? My years are probably off a bit, but I think you get the point. One of the most reliable power plants ever made for certain. These mid sixties big Ford products are, by a huge margin, the most reliable cars of their day, and even hold up well vs the new cars of today.

Iam the youngest of 4 brothers and 2 sisters. My oldest brother had a brand new white 1965 Park Lane when I was 5 years old. As far as I can remember his was a 2 door, but what I remember the most was the AC. Our Father had a new 65 Galaxy 500, 4 door post and no AC. I remember asking him why he didn’t get a 2 door with AC. Maybe if he had gotten a 4 door hard top Galaxy, with AC, like the Park Lane 4 door hard top in this video, I may have given him a break !!

My family had one of these for 10 years. We bought it new for $5500. It was the most expensive Mercury the dealership ever sold.

I own a 65 Superformance AC Cobra MK III . As a kid I also owned a Cheetah slot car . I love the history during that period and the battles Shelby had with the Corvette . I would love to own one of these cars . Its approximately 800 pounds lighter than the Superformance Cobra . That Cheeta is a beast !

Z06 powerplant and drivetrain, Buick Alfin brakes, tube chassis, glass body. 1700-2200lbs, 50/50, 50/50 weight distribution in 1958. A Bocar Stiletto set the record for average speed at Daytona at 178mph in 1961 before blowing the clutch.

Original Cheetah had drum brakes on all 4. I can't imagine racing that today.
