That is the most unsportsmanlike thing I have ever seen! He could not catch the Cobia on a rod and reel because he has no skills! The woman screaming and laughing would shut her mouth when the coast guard sees this evidence and he is fined for illegal activity by gaffing a sport fish! It is illegal and this is the best evidence! Video of a a criminal act!

I’m in Virginia also. It is disgusting to see a person gaff a Cobia out of the water. It is illegal where is also. Make no mistake he will be fined. This video shows illegal activities. Fishing for a sport fish is awesome and Cobia is my favorite fish. Been fishing for them For forty years and never have I seen anything like this! Simply disgusting!
Two things: that woman’s scream is awful. 2 Cobia have been known to destroy boats being free gaffed.

Good job keeping it hooked on the gaff for a moment. I've seen cobia go absolutely ballistic on the deck. And the deck was small. I adopted my mahi rules for cobia. Dump them off the gaff straight in the cooler, and sit on the lid. Or you can give'em a stroke with grandaddy's old fish billy to calm them down.

That happened once to my buddy and I. We gaffed one hanging out with it's nose against a channel marker in the tide. About 5 small ones took lures but the big one wouldn't eat. It got eaten 😜

It's a cobia, not a shark. Don't feel bad, the first time I saw one in the water I thought it was a shark for a second.

How fast were you going and what were the seas?? I’m looking at a new Cape Horn and it kinda looks like it’s pounding pretty bad?? But videos are hard to tell by.
I own a 2021 Cape Horn 31T & my “running” videos look just like this, but it isn’t beating anyone up, or taking any hard shots. I’ve owned a 31’ Fountain, & a Contender 28T, & the 31T is by far the driest & smoothest in seas 4’ & under. The solid build & foam filling make it very quiet, too. Hope this helps.👍🏻
We were probably running 32 to 35. I agree with Brian. Cape is an amazingly built hull, none built stronger is right. We didn't feel a thing except for one where my buddy yelled. The videos never truly show the sea state, I'd say we were in 3's. I could have hammered down with throttle and trim tab but we were just cruising. I own a Contender 30st now, very different hulls. Sorry for the year late response, I don't check this stuff
