Spoilers? The long haired girl with bangs, Rika, has been stuck in a loop but finally escaped and wanted to go to a prestigious high school with the short haired girl, Satoko. However, her friend Satoko (short haired) since they come from the countryside has a hard time fitting in with the prestigious high school. This causes her to long for her past back in her hometown, Hinamizawa, and she meets a god that grants her the same looping powers as her friend Rika, and she tried different ways to redo the past, but the god makes it to where her brother or Rika dies and Satoko tries everything to make it to where they'd both live and Satoko's mental state begins to deteriorate and because she is very fragile the god manipulates her into thinking the only way to keep their happy town life was to inact Oyashiro-Sama's curse which ended up in her and her friends death, she does this over and over again.

@@PolyTherian_.297 hello! Sorry for the late response, if you're wanting to start this series then there is several seasons before it. The first is Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni (2006) Higurashi no naku koro ni special:Nekogoroshi-hen (optional), Higurashi no naku koro ni Kai Higurashi kai specials (optional) Higurashi no naku koro ni Rei Higurashi outbreak ova (optional I think you can also find this one on RUclips) Higurashi no naku koro ni gou Higurashi no naku koro ni sotsu Those are all the anime in order, some are optional. For the anime you can watch it for free, but I recommend looking up where to watch it for free online because the website I used is no longer up anymore. For the manga there's the old ones (not in the video) and the order you can look up and if you want to read it for free then go to the website Mangadex. Read all of the old manga first, then move on to what's in the video which is Higurashi Gou manga, and then Higurashi Meguri after the gou manga they can also be found on mangadex. There is also the visual novel which is what higurashi was before the anime and manga adaptations. The visual novel you can look up on RUclips and find playlists that have it (look up the order online) I haven't gotten to the visual novels yet, so I can't speak much on it! Also Higurashi is pretty violent and gory, so if you're sensitive to that, then I don't recommend. There's also mentions of child abuse, so again if that's triggering I don't recommend. Long story short, they're both stuck in timeloops and first the long haired girl was stuck in a time loop but finally escaped and wanted to leave the village she had been stuck in for like 100 years of looping, then the short haired girl was confronted by a god after she failed a bit of school and she then traps the long haired girl back into the time loops
