The Reformers got it wrong because Luther got it wrong. And who can blame them for believing in what they wanted to believe. But not many Theologians and Scholar's today believe that the Papacy is the 666 A/C of Scripture. Reformed Theologians like R C Sproul Dr Ken Gentry Bruce Gore Eugene Peterson Hank Hanegraaff Steve Gregg Gary DeMar etc etc. Believe that the first Beast out of the Sea is a combo of the Beast Roman Empire and the Beast Nero Caesar who is the 666. The Beast out of the Earth is Israel and it's Apostate Judaism represented by Old Jerusalem and it's Temple which God arranged to be destroyed in AD 70. It was this corrupt Judaism that was the cause of the Crucifixion of Christ, the killing of the Prophets, and the stoning of Stephen. TMOTB was all part and parcel of Nero's notorious reign of terror, it doesn't have any kind of direct relevance to the 21st Century. The 2 Beasts cannot possibly be the Papacy and America respectively because when John wrote his long highly cryptic letter to the seven first century churches the Papacy and America didn't exist. One does not write and address a letter to inform people about things that do not exist. John has to be writing about things the seven Congregations of the seven Churches can relate to and potentially understand, given a little time and corporate effort. Revelation was not written about AD 95 as is traditionally believed, which is 25 or so years after the destruction of Jerusalem. But rather it was written about AD 65 which is about 5 years before the Destruction of AD 70. It was written and read out aloud to the seven Churches shortly after Nero's reign of terror against the Church had commenced. AD 64-68. Which is 42 Months. There is much internal and external evidence for the earlier writing date of Revelation. For example the Temple is still standing in Revelation and the book is full of Temple imagery. R C Sproul in his Vid " The Book of Revelation" explains how the erroneous date of approx. 95 came about. Blessings 😊
