Keidi and Cars
Эстония
Добавлен 25 мар 2009
Bringing oldschool cars back to life and trying to keep my own one alive too, oh boy is it challenging at times.
I don't have any training in repairing or anything, it's just me, my interest in cars and need to try everything myself. And cool friends and car community around me.
You are more than welcomed to come along with me, I probably can learn a thing or two from you, and you can borrow my enthusiasm to dive into the unknown and braveness to ask. This is how I came from literally only me and my car to having rebuilt my Corr without any knowledge and being part of building a car club. Oh, and I'm very much an introvert and shy, so I don't know why I'm doing this here.. it must be a calling, there's no other explanation.

And very interesting for me was the car panel removal. Never seen how these things got taken off and never drilled spot welds. Until now. Instagram: ke...

Hello Keidi! I completely feel you're pain and agree with you! But it's a Corrado, and you can't help but love ❤ it! You gave me some advice on how to fix my passenger side window (it wouldn't go up or down) and I'm happy to say I got it working thanks to you! Really appreciate 🙏 you! Have a great day and keep making these inspiring videos! I'm a HUGE fan of yours!!!
I'm happy to hear that you got it working again! Thank You! :)
Õhtust, sa suhtes ka muidu v ? 😊
Olen küll.🙂
@KeidiandCars Nice
Great video again. Lots of emotions coming through with how much this car means to you. I'm also very attached to mine. Sometimes I stop and stare also, admire how beautiful those lines are. makes me happy too. ❤
wie können wir helfen mot Corrado
I have owned my 2 liter engine since 2002, but I would definitely not give it away at the moment, although it has not caused me any notable defects over the years
Nicee!😎
I've owned a Corrado G60 since 2012 and I feel what you're saying. I will never give this car away, no matter what problems it causes😘
🙌🏼🙌🏼
;)
Very fast car and small
Are you sure the temperature is that high? Is it not just an incorrect reading from the sensor? Did you try to measure the temperature with a laser thermometer, example on the oil pan?
Noo, I don't have that, and I didn't think of that also in that moment. I could be faulty sensor too, yes. But doesn't lie while heating up, I know how much and how I have to drive to be at a working temp.
Love your car Keidi👍👌
Thank You!
i would be happy if i had this colour on my corrado.
Color is changeable :) I am happy too! That's why it's so hard to think of any ideas for a little change.
Since I started to drive I had Volkswagen Corrado I still have my first one and I see you no understand nothing about just respect get different Car for you
If outside air temps are cold intake can be cold it happens to my engine when its the season and usually it is always very hot especially with short trips with lot of shut off and go, i had a 944 got it for very cheap, non turbo but had 16" fuchs poor mans porsche but rich man Volkswagen actually now with prices even base models are expensive, if i get another i would want one in lesser condtion or 924 and would modify it or modernized the fuel injection because they had good aftermarket for those cars like cams and racing bits, also 20v sounds better 😝 1.8t the best 😂😂 1.8t in 944.. now thats my 10k car 😎
1.8t is indeed cool. And 944 is too. I hope your wishes come true!😎
We have fcp euro, ecstuning, corradofarmparts if you wants so goodies. Also, vintage rubber have some seals
True. Body parts and all accessories are hard to find and expensive
Most of the times, sadly, yes. Just have to get richer then, I say to myself. :D
Keidi please carry out a compression test before stripping it also use that leak detector that changes colour if there is exhaust gases in the coolant
I will keep than in mind. Ahh, I'm not mechanic :D, but I'll ask around. Thanks!
Still on the cooling and idling issues (I know you're about to park it). Have you thought about pulling the thermostat and just cutting away the "valve" part of it? The car would take a long time to warm up, but at least for troubleshooting, when it did get up to temp, it would eliminate the thermostat as a problem in the cooling system for when you do get through the rebuild. Food for thought. Also, on the rough idle, yours is an OBD1 coilpack, right? Have you tested out that goofy idle stabilizer valve/EGR at the side of the throttle body? It's only held on by those plastic tubes, which could have a hole in them (causing a vacuum leak). You could block them off one at a time and see if/how your idle changes. I have a few OBD1 intakes and I don't use them (I switch to OBD1), so I could probably ship you those parts as a donation to the cause.
OBD1 yes. Huh, I wish the mechanical skills would come to me overnight :D.. I'll look it up. One problem I know it has, the fuse box is going hot, starting with 109 and 18 relays. 109 is ECU.. put in new one, for few weeks cold starts were perfect and no idling issues, and then it just blew out again, I think with the heat, because just one day it started to idle bad again.. but that's yet another thing I have to tackle on while planning the rebuild. But..overall I think everything needs to be overlooked, tested. Something(s) is messing my vr6 up. I don't know, different specialists have looked it through, for some time it drives well and then again. I blame electrics. :D But thanks, I'll keep that in mind.
I have 2 Corrados and the fogs is a problem I'll have to tackle this winter. I might see about 3D printing a lens that can retrofit onto a MK3 or other common fog light. Also, it's nice having a rare car. Stick with it!
I only bought my e30 because I couldn’t afford a mk1 golf at the time I now own a mk1 golf 👌
Mk1 was one that came to my mind after filming, extremely cool car. But I need my sporty coupe look. Scirocco mk1 would be, but then I would prefer Corr still. Glad you got the MK1!!☺
The look of a corrado in my eyes is a thing of beauty and the sound of a vr6 is a godly sound and I love it 👌
Sameeee!🙌🙌
do whatever you want with your 944, keeping such old car "original" is almost impossible and financially unwise most of the times and parts (even for turbo) are out there 2 less cylinders but for that there is a lot of charm added instead, I just saw a turbo sold in Prague for almost 10k (has not run for many years, but the price is VERY good for a turbo)
What I want to say is F the "purists" its your car, you decide what you do or won't do with it. Porsche purists can jerk off to their own mirror reflection.
New fog lights for the Corrado are no problem. Google them VW Corrado HAVW03. Carbon or fiberglass body parts are made in the US, and the same company sells rubber bands and other stuff, their address is "spoonfedtuning"
I totally agree with you... your car has its challenges but they are your challenges... you already know them... getting a different car on a 10K range would be getting into an unknown world of challenges! ;-) love the channel. Gabriel from Puerto Rico. cheers!
It's the devil you know.
Thank You! Good point, that I already know this car (and somehow it is still capable of surprising me after all years - sounds like a good relationship tho :D)
We love cars, cars hate us, but when cars are broken they can always be fixed, it just takes time, money, effort, headaches, sleepless nights, unexpected illness, smashed knuckles and a few other things. But that will never stop us. The issues with the Corrado are just temporary.
Wohoo, nice pep talk, everyone should read it if they're down a bit!🙌
Hi Keidi, I cannot help you with your tuning- and colour- questions because I am going for the original. I like the dragon-green on the Corrado very much. It would have been my choice of colour if I had bought my Corrado new, but I bought a used one in 1993 and it is " dark midnight blue". Also in my opinion and taste your car is perfect in its height and you can only made it worse when trying to lower it further. Don't like your idear of using additional side- blades. And remember an original Corrado is today worth a lot more( a good one near 20.000 € in Germany) than a tuned" verbastelter" Corrado. Now to your problems: 1.) 130°Oil. On a fast Autobahn- ride with 180- 220 km/h for some time this would be normal for the VR6. But when cruising with ca.120km/h it's too much. Did you mentioned your corresponding watertemperatures? If the water- temperatures stayed normal (80- 90°) in this situation I have only 2 answers to your problem: - first the mentioned oil-/water exchanger -second a weak oilpump. Of course you should have enough of a good oil in your engine. 2.) the inlet- manifold cold. It shouldn't be hot because colder fuel/ air- mixture is better for your engine and gives more power 3.) Fog-lights. 1000, - € for a pair is much too high. In the german Corrado- forum there are two users who repair them( change the glasses). If you like I have a look for the price. If you will own sometimes good foglights I have two tips: - use them only when driving. - I protect my fog-lights and the direction lights with a transparent stuff- for instance from Foliatec.
Wow, thanks! Completely agree with the color, just owning it so many years makes sometimes want to do a little change. That's why the partial wrap or smth would be an idea. Wow, those prices already.. I wish we would have autobahns :D I cruised on a curvy road 80km/h I think. :D Water temp was normal. - Hmm, the intake manifold has always been burning hot, like you couldn't touch it hot.. maybe something has been faulty the whole time?!? There's time with fog light, million things to do before :D, but thanks. Yeah, I have a protective film over the glass right now too (to not get water inside the broken glass :D)
@@KeidiandCars why not fixing all gremlins on your beautiful Corrado as it is? Instead of tearing it apart and end having a Corrado, which is " verbastelt".
@@volkerkonig9376 the paintwork isn’t good, I made mistakes first time learning. Plus I didn’t paint the engine bay. Plus I didn’t do the bottom of the car so theres probably rust in many places. Plus I have to repaint the rear, since I screwed up with the badge delete. And I am keeping this car, I could let it be like that and be a little dissatisfied every coming year, and not wanting to participate at events, or I’m doing it once and for all so I can enjoy the quality too, not just for the love of the car itself. Side skirts will be refined and clued, not destroying the original body for forever.😊
It’s actually pretty easy. You don’t have to worry about evacuating air out of the system as it self bleeds itself. I typically just disconnect the upper hose from the radiator when refilling the system and just gravity feed it, and reconnect everything to itself.start the car up and allow it to purge itself. Problem solved..🥳🎉🙏🏻✝️🌅
I bought my first Corrado 6 months before my 21st in 1998. I've had 4 since then and nothing beats the VR6 roar.
Awesome!🙌🏼 Completely agree with the VR6 roar😻
Feel both top and bottom radiator hoses to see if they are heating up. Rules out thermostat then. Does sound like one of the fan stages isnt working which keeps it around 80 of dash.
Seems like water problems fixed with tank change, BUT what was already in this video and I didn’t notice it then, the intake manifold is cold but oil temp is sometimes (not always) getting to 120-130C. So maybe a stupid coincidence of two problems happening at once, or somehow it is all related..but cooling system seems to work properly, by looking at all the indicators and stuff. Thanks tho!😊
@@KeidiandCars yeah if water cooling isn't working then this will effect the oil temps too as the coolant is fed through the oil cooler. Glad you got it sorted though used to have a corrado vr6 storm but sold in 2019. So most problems I've come across at some point, I'd had the front end of that car off numerous times I bought it in November 2006 and the radiator went leading up to Christmas. Boxing day the whole front end was off for a radiator change. Keep up the good work 👏
Inspiring!!! Keep it up
Just seen the broken bottle😂
Try swapping out the black coolant cap for a newer blue one. Maybe it's not holding pressure and causing air locks
Mine is painted black. But yeah, broken, you already saw😀
I totally relate to your problem! 😢 My 93 VR6 is constantly overheating... On a hot day, literally have to stop and turn the engine off for 30 minutes to cool her down! I think my radiator fan is periodically not working! I have an unrelated question please. Since this spring, the passenger side window does not open. When i press the button all I hear is a faint humming sound? You know so much about Corrados so I was hoping you could give me some advice... Big and expensive repair job???
Assuming it’s not electrical fault, maybe the wire is broken or loose, or the scissors don’t move for some reason, or the rail system roller thing is broken. Remove the upholstery, then you already will see I believe. Not a hard work. But if you need to take all inside out, not hard too. Just have to be careful with the window outer seal, only slide it out, no pulling up. Few bolts holding the mechanism, 2 holding the window.. drilling some rivets for the electric motor. Should be about it if I remember correctly.
@@KeidiandCars Thanks very much 🙏 for the advice! I will try your suggestions and let you know how it went! Hope you have a wonderful day!
Few things to check: 2ND speed fan is working? Or just the first speed fan? If not replace the fan module right in front of the coolant reservoir. Replace for a low fan switch, they have it on fcp euro or ecs tunning. if you have an access to pressure test, check that coolant reservoir and replace the cap.
After watching till the end Keidi iits after the oil overheating the misfire has stared was it? If so Then it maybe a spark plug breaking down check them for any discoloring blue on the chrome of spark plug just below the ceramic, 1might have got too hor due to the high oil temperature. Your engine management light should come on if it has amything to do with MAF sense or tps senser or any senor to do with fuel, fuel pressure, air intake
I was just about to say Keidi check oil first and then you did 👍. Didn't you put new coil pack, plugs and HT leads a few months ago?
Yeah, I did.🙂
Hiya Keidi, Oil cooler
Try the simple things before changing to much. The Corrado VR6 cooling system works perfect if in right order: 1.) is your fuse for the ventilator okey? I wonder why it didn't run when coming home in the night. 2.) check the contacts behind the fuse- box. Oxidation is a common failure there. Use a special Anti- corrision spray for electrics. Like" Kontakt 60" 3.)check the electrical contacts at the thermostat- housing also. Use " Kontakt 60" 4.) check the electrical contacts for the electrical waterpump. Use Kontakt 60 5.) the cooling- system normally gets rid of any air when the engine is running with the cooling- bottle open. You can pump a little bit additionally at the waterhoses. Of course at the end you have to close the coolant- bottle. Because the system is pressshurized. 6.) don't think your cooling- bottle had a leck. The hot water comes out under the black cover at the side. Do you have already the blue cup on the cooling- bottle? Important. 7.) are the air- leading profiles before the radiator are in good shape? They are often rotten in this old cars. When you checked all this only then I would think of flushing the system, changing the thermostat( check even a new one for proper opening on the stove) and the primary water-pump. By the way. Your secundary( electrical) waterpump should run at once when switching on ignition. You can feel it at the pump. And the electrical- pump should run for some minutes after ignition off.
You bought a new coolant- bottle. The cup on top is very important. Only the blue (!) is right because it has the right pressure- Valentinstag. I forgot to mention. The fan should work in first gear almost the whole time, especially when driving slow in heavy traffic. I myself had this problem lastly and didn't realize that the fan was'nt working correctly. In my case it was a broken fuse and oxidated contacts.
Try the simple things first before changing to much. 1.) the
Yee i just had to replace my aluminum radiator with a standard one, temps were crazy high and thought the standard plastic radiators suck but i had a little drip leak from upper hose which is hard to see with the fans on, i put that hose on better and temps are pretty good so any leaks you will be running hotter, also i did replace my fan not too long ago and realized it was pushing air so i switched the wires maybe i put them on wrong to begin with and now its pulling air and seems to cool off much better and can use it along with driving, this is my same fight also battling heat, little 1.8t are just heat machines
🤗🤗
The little line from the radiator to the coolant bottle is what bleeds the air from the system. So no need for a special procedure like other cars. If it gets hot while driving (not still) then it's not a fan issue as the airflow does all the work while in motion. That and the pump/thermostat. Thermostat and cap test would be my first things to check. And do a good coolant system flush. On the fusebox heat, get in behind it and look for signs of corrosion or heat on the plug contacts. The fusebox does sometime go bad. Rate, but if the whole thing is getting HOT, then I'd grab another one and conpare.
Thanks, good thoughts in simple language.💪🏼🤓
I watched an American blogger's review of common problems with the Corrado VR6, and he said that one of the problem areas is the fan control unit, it's near the tank in yours. My friend doesn't have this unit at all. One of the previous owners removed it. Everything works. Leaks are also possible from under the thermostat housing, it's plastic. The coolant tank my friend has is also not original for the VR6, but from a simple version, its number is Nissens 996238.
It does seem like coolant circulation is poor like another user mentioned. Also that sound you're hearing is just the overpressurization of the coolant reservoir due to the coolant boiling or something of the sort. Also, I know this isn't related to the subject but have you ever considered going with an aftermarket engine control unit? Something a bit more modern with some features that will bring the Corrado like 20 years into the future?
Well, honestly I don’t know much of these stuff, seems a lot like wiring-electrical nightmare. And mapping, sofware..😀😳 I do know that newer type vr6 doesn’t have the stupid iac stuff or smth and some swap that system over. But again, have to have a proper specialist for that.. and budget. But I’m doing a little research of what you suggested, thanks!🙌🏼
@@KeidiandCars Well if you decide to even think about going that route I don't mind advising you on a budget friendly route because I think it could be interesting or beneficial. Sometimes moving outside your comfort zone can be an amazing experience.
@@Pynoxim1 I completly agree, I would want quality and wouldn’t want to look at the budget too much too get it.
change the expansion bottle, pressure test the cooling system remove the thermostat check it with a thermometer in a cup of boiling water check the two stage fan sensor fit a new water pump, does it have an auxilary electric pump test that do a compression test then drive it over to london england I will have a look for you✌
Seems like an easy task.😀
Maybee your waterpump rotor is defect so the enige coolant does not circulate and the engine is getting hot and the coolant is blowing out of the coolant tank
Starting with the coolant tank, the broken part was bad before, I didn’t know it was broken inside, just thought that the hose and clamp is bad or smth. But yeah, water pump and also thermostat aren’t old, but the next thing to look at if first solution isn’t working. Thanks!
Might be worth replacing the thermostat
Really nice Corrado.
Thanks!🙌🏼
Great job! Happened across your channel and subbed. 👍 If I may offer one suggestion... be extra careful when using an impact on nice wheels and always use a torque wrench when reinstalling.
Thanks, good thoughts, and welcome!🙌🏼😊
Old cars, there's always something doesn't work just like it should.
