The STB Was Warned. East Palestine Derailment update. June 2024.
Everyone needs to hear this, especially the residents of east Palestine. The STB and FRA were warned about car inspections not being done correctly due to retaliation. The people who are being paid by us tax payers have knew a year prior to East Palestine.. This is BS and unacceptable. The @surfacetransportationboard8768 needs to also be held accountable for sitting by and not doing a damn thing.

I retired in 2004 as a Locomotive Engineer with 30 years of service, made my Engineers date on the Southern Pacific, and flowed over to the UP after they acquired the "Ol' Friendly." SP Their descriptions are accurate, but it's when a Trainmaster orders you to go and pick up a cut of cars about 20 miles away with an hour and a half left on hours of service that changes the Kumbaya outlook about the railroad. I never made it back to my T.U. point, died on the hours of service in the siding, and then an official accused me " that I wasn't a team player. "TERRIBLE!." And waited a couple of hours before a ride showed. Altogether, it was about 14 hrs. + on duty. :> Be prepared for moments like that if there is such a thing.

I've been an extra board merchant as a train operator for my first 2 years at my local agency. I don't mind the variation. In fact I don't see my self enjoying doing the same run every single day for a full quarter. I was able to bid for someone's work who is on long term leave and I get to do every line within the entire week with a set schedule now which is pretty cool.

I left trucking to focus on family. That was a huge learning lesson for me. Living to work is good if you don't have family waiting at the house. If you have family waiting it's all about that time. We only get one shot. To any business you're just another number & replaceable. To your family, you're the only number that matters, and you're irreplaceable. I have loyalty to no company they can either support me and my family. How I dictate is correct, or I'll turn my service truck in.

There’s no doubt that less traditional jobs than the 9-to-5 ones have become commonplace. That said, it’s important for railway companies to give anyone higher to do a safety-critical job, if shift work is involved, more notice than just 3-5 hours or so. Working in rail yards, not just driving trains, involves a lot of danger.

I love my crew callers it’s not automated we actually talk to the crew caller I love when they ask me if I want call and ask if I want to take a flow back to a conductor spot as a engineer being the last of protected men left if I say know they have to restart my rest and roll me to the bottom of the board if I’m on a extra list. My 2nd year working can I spent the entire summer at the pool with my daughter still getting paid and as soon as I’d get to 2nd out I’d have my chance to drop a turn and roll to the bottom of the board I was still making same thing as if I was out on the train working almost.
