Absolutely outstanding view. You do not see stuff like this on the east coast of the US
The Rockies are something else!
Best video Ive seen on this hike! Made me more comfortable if I end up going alone. Do you get patches of phone reception up there?
Thanks so much for the kind words. I don't remember what reception was like along the hike, but I for sure know that the reception was about 1 bar (close to non-existent) at the summit, because (sadly) I couldn't even re-download my drone app and as a result I couldn't get any drone footage. So to answer your question, yes, there is some limited reception, but it's very weak. Don't count on it.
@@SeaToSummitAdventures Gotcha thanks! Thats too bad about the drone, but still outstanding video on this hike. Im just a little worried in case things go south, i dont have a garmin inreach. Good to know theres at least 1 bar at times.
What about kids ? Not too dangerous?
Great question. We would say this hike is very doable for kids. - Tim
Beautiful!
Thank you! Cheers!
Beautiful footage. How are the bugs up there at this time? And is there a decent spot at the top to hang a hammock?
Thanks for the kind words. The bugs weren't bad at all when I was up there. There are some trees around, so if you were determined to put up a hammock, I bet you could find a spot that works. - Tim
@@SeaToSummitAdventures Awesomee thanks for the reply Tim! Your video was the best for this hike!
So from the video I take it is allowed to park on the side of the rode if we can’t make it on the dirt rode?
Yes, exactly.
This is in my backyard, I need to get out here!
You're lucky! I live in Langley ... Pitt Lake is exactly 28 minutes away, which is not bad at all. - Tim
Very helpful! Thank you for this, makes me more comfortable if I end up doing this by myself. 💜
Thank you for the kind words! I'm glad it was helpful. Best of luck. - Tim
Is using a drone allowed?
Not sure. When I don't know, I don't ask. - Tim
One of my faves is to hike the Hanes Valley from where you started, up to the Grouse ski area, then back down and back to create loop. It's about 9hrs inc. stop for lunch. You can even buy lunch at the ski area if you want to travel light.
Very cool. I'll have to take a look to see what your route would look like. Thanks for the suggestion. - Tim
Years ago, they had absolutely zero signage and the reason supposedly was to discourage people from going on all of these more 'difficult' hikes. Was super annoying because as certain junctions it was difficult to figure out which way to go sometimes. At around the 4km area, they'd have signs saying 'do not go beyond this point'. Of course we ignored it and kept going, that sign was supposedly, again, to discourage people from hiking too far, and only the experienced hikers knew enough to ignore such signs. So, it's nice now that they have all of this info and allow people to make up their own minds.
Absolutely, agree 100%. - Tim
Beautiful! Around what time was this taken?
I believe we hit the lake at 8am, so most of this was shot before noon.
Thanks for the informative videos , has given me some weekend adventure ideas for us in LM
Glad to hear it! We appreciate the encouragement.
Loved the hike info, always wanted to investigate. Too bad about the video bg music. Totally destroys the otherwise sublime nature mood pictured.
Understood, and I hear you. I try not to let these videos get too monotonous. Some light background music is helpful for some viewers I think. Thanks for the suggestion of silence though. - Tim
Very informative .I'll try paddling it. Thank you so much.
The best feedback we could get, thanks! - Tim
A few years ago I headed up to Coliseum Mountain - it was rather muddy in places, and on my way down I saw this a guy heading up in **bare feet**! Great blueberries up there, too.
Ohmygoodness, that is just wild. The trail gets pretty rocky in the top 20%.
great hike. I have been looking for a place like this. I am encourage and I will go there.
It’s a tough one but worth it. Have fun!
18:39 most important part of this video. so you WANT to park at lynn headwaters parking lot?
Yes, that’s correct.
They filmed Jumanji there
Oh cool! Had no idea.
Good job buddy. That's a tough hike and you did it all in one day!!!
Thanks! Yeah it was a tough one. Looking forward to trying it again some time.
Lost my best friend therein 2022. There are many undertows there. She got sucked under and drowned. Please be careful.
One of the only fresh water lakes with a tide
I’m so sorry to hear that. Was this at the falls?
@@SeaToSummitAdventures yes it was July 13, 2022. It was in the news and I was working in Haida Gwaii for the summer. It’s a beautiful place. The people she travelled there with just up and left and left all of her belongings behind. Paddled away and never called 911. It was awful. I still think it’s a beautiful place but just hope people are careful there:
@@hollsee9266 Ugh, that sounds absolutely awful. Looking up the story now.
@@SeaToSummitAdventures Thanks. Her spirit is with me all the time. I see signs so I feel her close. Thank you and your videos are awesome.
Great videos. Which did you find more challenging, Crown or Coliseum?
Thank you so much. I found Coliseum a lot tougher and longer than Crown, especially since I took the Grouse gondola up to the trailhead for Crown.
My buddy and I did cathedral in a day was 19 hrs hike trail gets hard to find after David’s peak
Thanks for this, I need to make sure Cathedral is on my to-do list!
Definitely a good one to noch cool radio tower like on robi reed
Great video I'll definitely be doing this ASAP. By the way great channel keep it up I definitely see great potential for your channel and content. Nothing better than good ol BC 🍻
Thanks so much, really appreciate the kind words. Yes, we’re blessed to live in this paradise of outdoor adventure possibilities.
17:21 I'd say the water you got up top is cleaner and better than what you'd find at the bottom. In stores.
So amazing. Few things match the feeling of a mountaintop swim after a long ascent!
ya... that's definitely not true at all. Alpine lakes are petri dishes bro
@@jasonj4326 Generally speaking I agree, but this one was being fed by a lot of snowmelt and as you can see in the vid was super clear.
@@SeaToSummitAdventures I realise it's super clear and appears clean but you'll find quite a few people who have drank straight from the water in the cracks of glaciers and had a very bad time. Full of really nasty stuff that will mess you up regardless of water clarity
It's very important that you do this with a buddy. There may be nobody on the trail to help if you slip and twist an ankle. There are 2 slippery creek crossings and water can be high if there has been recent rain. Not for amateurs. Or the less fit. Don't underestimate the difficultly It is. =2 grouse grinds.
Is it not the most glorious of spots -- not for the faint of hearts (nor bad knees-hips-backs++) to get to, unless have a helicopter that can whisk you there. The lake is majestic but cannot imagine much water is present, nor as clean, in August - Sept. Having to oneself is the dream and you checked off that bucket list revisit to this spot. I will never be able to hike there again, but fortunate did so twice in my life and am certain it took way longer than even 13 hours, incl. hanging in the water.
Yes! Definitely a dream to enjoy this summit and the lake by myself. Thanks for the thoughtful comments and nostalgia. Much appreciated. - Tim
That's a great review! I'll have to check out your channel again before some future hikes!
Thank you so much! I've got a few recent hike reviews just waiting to be edited and published. Looking forward to sharing. - Tim
Nice video. Was the bug/misquote situation bad?
Thank you for the kind words. No, the bugs weren't really terrible at any point on this hike. - Tim
I've done Norvan Falls a few times but never made it to Coliseum Summit, looks beautiful. Thanks for the vid!
Awesome! Can’t wait to go there with our new paddle boards. I had no idea what to expect and now I do! ❤
So great to hear, Sharon! Enjoy Widgeon Creek.
Love to see more high quality local content!!! New subscriber here 😀
Thanks so much for the kind words! I'm hoping to review a few more great Vancouver-area hikes and paddles this summer. - Tim
Now subscribed to you as well. Wow, a mentor channel I see! 👍🏼
@@SeaToSummitAdventures I love to see it!!! Haha we are far less classy 😅 It's a good niche, there really is surprisingly little on RUclips about a lot of the more remote NS hikes and peaks!
@Subalpinism A lot of people willing to make TikToks, not as many willing to sit down and edit long-form content. 👍🏼
It's a fun day, I loved the paddling part of it!!
Such a great spot, right? I keep coming back every summer. - Tim
Hy, I love your energy and so your vlog. You covered every part…Thank u for that. Could you please tell if the trail is well marked or not and whether we could do overnight stay. Thanks so much.
I was able to follow the trail fairly well by myself as a first-time visitor, so I would say yes to that. To the overnight stays, I'm not sure what the official rules are up there but I can tell you that as I was coming down I passed a group who had backpacks and told me they would be spending the night. - Tim
@@SeaToSummitAdventuresThank you so much for your reply. One thing more… Is the lake too deep?😊
No, lots of shallow areas. The depth is basically perfect, to be honest. - Tim
*Dock
rare to see calm water. The dick at Porteau Cove is for BC Ferries emergency in case of blockage . There are houses all along the far side and Anvil Island.....
Ah, thank you! Didn’t think about the houses across the way.
Is there any wildlife? Like bears should I bring bear spray to this trail?
We didn’t see any bears, but yes I would bring bear spray. Have fun! - Tim
seeing the snow...bet that water was cold
...lotsa places to skinny dip :0)
It was cool of course but not too bad. It was a hot day mind you.
Thx so much for this😊
You’re very welcome! Glad it helped.
How’d you get a permit to film there? I’m dying to fly the drone
I don't recall needing one.
Hi Tim Thank you very much for taking time to make this and other videos, They are all great. If you need a company for hiking let me know 😷
Thank you, sir. I appreciate the kind words.
Love this one Tim! I did this last year with some teaching colleagues and will be going again next week. We also experienced portaging on the way back and the deer flies are all over the place there for sure. It's such a fun adventure that is a combination of lake/river, creek, paddling, hiking, swimming, and falls which can be done all in one day. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for this, Jon. Yes - I consider this a must-paddle in the Lower Mainland. How did this go with you and your colleagues? - Tim
@@SeaToSummitAdventures didn’t end up happening unfortunately due to scheduling but planning again for end of August!
Cool, I hope you can make it happen!
How cold is that water? I would love swimming here
It's incredible, and definitely an amazing relief on a hot day. Yes, the upper lake especially is pretty cold, but worth it. - Tim
been awhile since ive been down there!
It’s a magical place, isn’t it?
@@SeaToSummitAdventures love the sand bars oh man! time to rent a canoe.
I'm a snowmobiler. Some of the best times riding are just sitting on the machine in the quiet listening
Ah, I can imagine. The stillness of a snow-covered forest is something on a whole other level.
@@SeaToSummitAdventures ya to the average person there's nothing there but to some people like us there's much more
Very informative video, thanks a lot.
Thanks for that feedback! Wishing you a great hike. - Tim
Nice video👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks, Vanessa. Are you thinking of trying this one?
Thanks for sharing
My pleasure. Thanks for watching! Are you planning to tackle this one this summer? - Tim
what month did you go there?
Great question, and I've now included this in the description. This video was shot on August 18, 2023.
Thanks for the awesome video. I've never paddled Widgeon creek before. Question: does the creek have any fingers where one can get lost going inand coming out of the creek? Thanks again.
Great question. Technically yes, but I would say in it's extremely unlikely for you to lose your way. There's one key fork in the creek that is marked by a sign (you can see it here at 4:07). Other than that it's pretty much impossible to lose your way. - Tim
the bubbles are from decaying vegetation
Thanks, @ThrowingItAway ... that makes total sense! - Tim
