I appreciated this different dialogue to the one on X. Carl made some important points- there is no Science of Teaching, CLT is a small part & play is good for his daughters. Tom - there are no absolutes, most teachers use di NOT PBL, but most find di tough. Emma - group work is useful - some prominent SoL proselytizers belittled those who claimed that on X a few weeks ago.

    - I am interested to hear why Carl says cognitive science is about brain processing. I thought that was cognitive psychology because cognitive science goes further than that. - You briefly mention an article 'exposing' something. Could you link it somewhere (I didn't catch the title) - The taking notes on article bit - might be worth looking into the area of personal knowledge management. There are LOTS of debates about this online.

I have a lot of time for Sam. He has forgotten more about education than most govt ministers of education will ever know. Such a refreshing outlook based on what works. Having conversed with him on Twitter recently, he exudes two qualities I look for in every great educator - he is humble enough to know that he doesn't have all the answers - though he has many - and he LISTENS! Great job Tom and Emma.

Thanks, Frankie; you’re an inspiration. Great shout out to NAHT Leaders for Race Equality and book (You Are Not Alone). You show how equality of opportunity in education is vital to getting the best people in leadership, like you, rather than the succession of the same that has been the norm for so long. That internal voice that sometimes prevents us from speaking truth, in case ‘we’ upset others can be so inhibiting, so thank you for calling that out and for fighting it!

Mr Lemov has helped teachers significantly- myself included. But his characterization of public schools being in "a shambles" is either biased or misinformed. I could go on and on about the lack of accuracy of that characterization if one investigates all public schools- not the worst cases. I've worked in economically diverse public schools and see amazing things all the time. Is he working for charters or private schools? That's the only thing that makes sense. Charters and privates do not have anywhere near the size of ESE, ELL, or economically disadvantaged students that public schools have. Public school teachers are, generally, more credentialed. Though, I understand that public schools are NOT IMPROVING and getting worse. BUT segregating education through charters and privates is extremely harmful to building a better society. So if one cares about all children equally, the answer is disentangling for profit companies and one-size-fits-all exams for school grades. And the most important thing would be developing a society that has an equitable economy for all[yea, that's redundant].

Thank you, Emma and Tom. What I’ve taken from this is that there is a balance between recreating order and structure, while remaining vigilant to pick up where children need support. This is especially important if children have experienced bereavement. Our culture expects us to return to work quickly after a death and to ‘get over it’. This leads to suppressing emotions rather than processing them. Awareness of our own ‘baggage’, as Tom put it, is crucial so that we don’t assume that our own reaction is the same as the person we are supporting. First Aid for Mental Health training or basic counselling skills can both help in this respect.

Really enjoyed this, really got me thinking about lots of things. Really interested in how you empower staff to take the lead on seeking feedback. On of the key challenges of online lessons is what I call double teaching ie the aprent and child at the same time! This has often caused a reduction in the childs learning and there is a huge amount of work we need to to do to engage parents in the right way
