Nice story my class at school in Rm6 (Churton school) my teacher showed our class this story on June Friday 2018 we celebrated mataariki on June Friday 2018 we called it The big breakfast we lighted up some lanterns and let them go 😁😁

A few comments. The original story from the people of Ngai Tuhoe has Tawhirimatea ripping his eyes out and throwing them to the heavens. Look up the youtube videos of Dr Rangi Mataamus, from Ngai Tuhoe. They have reclaimed their legend and are letting different Iwi know their views about this. I had to retell it as I was making this for a group of new entrants and didn't want to freak them out. Heoi ano kai te mihi tonu ki a Rangi, otira ki a Pou ma. Koutou, nga tamariki o te kohu, mauriora!

They spelt matariki like this mataariki

Tēnā koutou e hika māi i kaha ki te tuku korero mai. Mauriora ki a koutou. Anyone can use this. I made this for public use. I created this for my kids school Mataariki night. I wanted the kids to have a more authentic story. Admittedly I took the license that all story tellers have - I adapted it for our little ones. So while Pou talks about Tāwhiri ripping out his eyes and throwing them to the skies, for our little ones, I changed it to tears. Thanks for the correction on 'lightening'! Damned spell check!! And regarding Tane lying on his back, I wasn't there so I didn't see. (Mo taku hē, he whakatoi noiho) But seriously, ngā mihi ki a koutou, and use it!!!

Just one comment I'd like to make...the part where Tane separates his parents...he was lying on his back and pushed up with his legs...but overall impressed much :)
