I'm really enjoying the style of your Vlogmas,
Thanks, I'm so happy that you like it! The style is mainly inspired by lack of time, but it's also much easier to make sure I can do one every day when I don't need to talk, hehe.
ah milligram is dangerous!! i could go broke in there. love the daffodil road yarn for today.
Yep, totally agree on both counts there! 🤭
😂 Lovely decorations
Hehe, thanks! 🎄🤶
I’m suffering serious FOMO over you advents. Why am I not surprised at the Milligram connection? 🤔
Watching unboxing is always dangerous, hehe. So interesting that you're not surprised by Milligram! Stationery is my second love (if you combine all crafting into the first love) 🤓
Mine too, I have a serious collection of fountain pens, inks & notebooks.
Do you have a favourite fountain pen?
@ oh dear, that’s more difficult than asking me who’s my favourite child (I only have 1 child). For everyday I don’t think you can go past a Lamy Safari (M). I have a MB Boheme in Ice Blue (long discontinued) that I bought myself as a gift 20 years ago (yes, I’m old), after my business had a very successful first year. It’s amazing: perfectly balanced, beautiful nib and soooo pretty. Pelikan M400 White Tortoise and Pilot Capless in Silver are also beauties, then there’s a Sailor 1911 Standard, I bought in Nagasaki that celebrates the festival of lanterns. I had better stop now… 🙄 What about your favourites? 🖋️
Wow, sounds like you have a really nice collection there! I only have a few and they're all pretty basic. My favs would be my Safari (EF) and Pilot Prera (F). I'd intended to get myself a special one when I was in Japan but then got overwhelmed by the selection 😅.
What a bonus. I’m looking forward to your daily vlogs (no pressure)
Hehe, thanks Jennie! Will do my best 🤭
I love your vlogs Bobbie. Sorry to hear the pollen was so awful in Melbourne this year 😢 your projects are beautiful ❤
Thanks Madeleine! 🥰 I never used to get hay fever so hopefully I won't have it forever 🤞
That is a valias blacknose sheep
Ooooh yes, thank you!
I've come back to my RUclips channel to vlog the mystery KAL and have also found your channel again. I'm really enjoying your videos. Your woven scarf is gorgeous, I hope your aunt loves it (I'm sure she does) and your MKAL shawl is looking beautiful - I don't think I could knit it in laceweight though so well done!
Thank you! I’ll have to check out your videos too. My aunt does love the scarf. And seeing how big the lace version of the shawl is I don’t actually think I’d want it fingering weight! Although it is a bit fiddly, but still lots of fun.
I love the colors you picked for the MKAL. I have been waiting for more clues to drop before joining in. Thanks for sharing your process!
Thanks! What do you think of the finished design? Do you reckon you’ll do it?
@@PlatypusKnitting I do like it, a lot! I think it is going to be a me make once I get through holiday knitting.
Sounds like a smart plan 👌
Love your shawl, can’t wait to see the finished product
Thank you! It might take longer than expected because I am possibly discovering that I’m allergic to mohair. Fingers crossed that it’s just normal spring allergies though.
@ 😳
I started my Go Go Dynamo right after the third clue came out, even though I had my yarn ready from the start. I wanted to make sure I really liked the look of the shawl before I used some very loved stash yarn, and I do. Even more so now that I've seen what it will look like when it's done. I'm just doing the bubble row now. I wasn't worried about keeping up. I never planned on rushing through it, even if I had started with everyone else. I'm enjoying the process. So I will knit along with you. I'm in Canada. I've measured mine, and if you are still interested, it's 150 cm long. I'm using fingering weight yarn and 3.25 mm needles, which is one size smaller than called for in the pattern. I'm a loose knitter, just like Stephen West, but prefer the look of the fabric I get from one size smaller needles.
That’s such a lovely way of doing and thinking about the knitalong 🥰. So glad to hear you love it even more after seeing the finished design. Very exciting! Thanks so much for sharing your length and fabric notes. Always very helpful to have more information 🤓.
I am the same in terms of having so many different crafts I want to do more of - I want to learn English paper piecing and get more into embroidery, sewing and weaving, but I always seem to gravitate towards knitting. You are very knowledgeable about weaving - did you take any classes or are you totally self taught?
Embroidery and sewing are on my list too 😆. And it’d be nice to weave more than once every two years, haha. I’m totally self taught. A lot of Craftsy classes and School of Sweet Georgia classes and RUclips and taking notes. I have considered doing those Saori sessions you two keep talking about though.
@@PlatypusKnitting i will let you know when we are planning to take one again if you want to join us!
Ooh yes please!
@@PlatypusKnitting Ive booked to do one on Friday December 6th, and might do a Saturday one in February. If you’re going to the all about fibre and yarn day in templestowe on Saturday the 7th of December I think heather will be there too with an opportunity for people to have a go on a SAORI loom.
Hmmm don’t think I could wrangle the December one, but if you do Feb I’ll totally come to one then 😊
I have a smaller version and warp mine by taking out the warp beam and clamping it to a table edge but I can't do that with the No. 4. I don't have a warping peg either so I've had to cut the warp threads before warping.
I've actually just created a tensioning device with dowels and it's so good! Highly recommend giving that a try. Also started using yarn butlers as warping pegs. Also works pretty well, but not perfect.
Your Dion Sweater looks so warm & cosy. The colours are stunning and it’s such an interesting design. BTW, I have finally started my Star Illusion blanket, it’s likely to be a duplicate of yours.
Thank you, I'm super happy with it too. Too bad it's been too warm to wear it since, hehe. Yay, that's so exciting! I hope you enjoy knitting it 🫶
❤ 🤗
I'd love to see more of the quilt you are making! The yellow jumper you are wearing in the second part of the video is really lovely - did you knit it yourself?
For sure, I’ll definitely show more of the quilt! Not that I’ve done any more work on it since I filmed that snippet 😆. The yellow jumper is the Flared Pullover by Norah Gaughan. I knit it a couple of years ago and it’s my favourite sweater - so far!
Thank you this was so interesting to watch 🌺
You're welcome, glad you enjoyed it! 😊
Nice to catch up with you Bobbie! Your jumper looks beautiful, you are so patient and getting it right 💜
Thanks Maddie. If it’s worth knitting, it’s worth knitting right! Sometimes. Some days 🤪
Great episode Bobbi. Your Dion sweater is looking beautiful 😊
Thank you Jennie 💚
kudos on doing helical knitting with all those cables. i once watched a tutorial about how to do helical knitting in cables or lacework and it almost broke my brain 🥴
Thanks 😅 it’s definitely a brain breaker. Sometimes I feel like I’ve got the hang of it, then sometimes it’s just like… what the hell did I do? What’s going on? What am I meant to be doing here? 😳🙃
I'm so glad you love the tea strainer. I use mine every day :)
Aww tea strainer buddies! Now I love it even more 🥰
I have watched about 7 hours of your channel so I guess it was 3 episodes 😂 I am kidding. I actually like the longer videos. I pay for RUclips premium so it's nice to get a good show to watch or on my case listen to while I'm doing something. I have been printing various types of drop spindles and also making some with old knitting needles and whorls I've 3d printed. Thanks for keeping me company. 🎇🎆
Hehehe, I’m exactly the same. Love those long episodes! You’re very welcome, thanks for choosing me to keep you company.
We have some of those stores just in a smaller version here in the US. I just went to one in the Dallas, TX area and it was a super cute store. I purchased some fleece from there too but not nearly the quantity that you did.
Now you need an andean ply tool to wind onto. It will allow you to make plied yarn easily from spindles.
A tool would be great, but I also quite enjoyed using a book and ruler to make a plying bracelet. Becks from Tiny Fibre Studio has a wonderful video on this - ruclips.net/video/5d7yO1VUNI8/видео.htmlsi=5FMOZhG0JWh4YClf But also, this spindle makes a centre pull ball so I don’t need a plying bracelet! Plus I’m making a 3 ply from 3 separate singles.
Hello just found your channel and subscribed today. I found this video entertaining and informative. I'm a fairly new spinner myself and wondered why you used such a big distaff. I use one when I spin on my various spindles. I knitted it and it goes around my wrist like a cuff for a shirt. I've had trouble with a dealdan myself versus other drop spindles I have. I find bottom whorls to work best for me. I love the Turkish spindle. Thanks for the videos I'll try to get as many watched as I can and leave my 👍.
Thank you so much! I love the Turkish spindle too, but can be a perfectionist about how I wind onto it so have been really enjoying how much quicker it is to wind on the dealgan. I’ve tried a wrist one but prefer how much more secure a stick distaff feels, plus having the full use of that hand is great. With the wrist one I was still having to hold the fibre all the time. That was a while ago now though so I do want to give it another go.
Yay! I love the outside
It’s the best! But I think I need to get an actual mic if I want to do that again.
The weaving you showcased was from a stall called Barlert Bagoorrk Moorroop ( Strong Women Sprit ) First time showcasing our work at Bendigo sheep and wool show . We are 4 friends And are all local women , with different interests , Trina Dalton -oogjes is our beautiful First Nations friend who is passionate about her country and weaving in all forms but her passion is in basket weaving with native fibres , Tania O’Connell is a fabulous weaver and knitter , creating one off designs . Gillian Mc millian masters color work in her knitting and weaving ( her socks are divine ) and lastly myself Honnie Cameron ( Twig -Weave & Twine ) I am the lady responsible for the macrame and woven wall hanging !! So sorry I was in conversation when you were at our stall and Thank you for your lovely completments. Please call in again next year and say hi 👋
Oh my gosh, thank you so much for sharing all of that information Honnie! I love your work, you all make such beautiful items 🤩!!! I hope you had a wonderful time at the Show. I definitely will pop by again next year and hopefully I won't be in such a rush and will be able to stay and chat more. In the meantime... found the group on instagram and following!
I think it’s called a “baby doll” sheep. Lovely vlog, thanks for sharing.
Thank you! I looked up the babydoll and they are so cute! They look like walking pouffy clouds 😍. I couldn't spot a picture of one with locks as long as the one I spotted though.
Your Dion sweater is going to be stunning 🤩
Thanks, it's such a beautiful design and I am SO happy with my yarn and colours!
@@PlatypusKnittingThe Tarndie yarn is a delight to knit with and next to skin soft. It does pill a lot, but that’s a small price to pay.
Loved hearing about the process and kudos for reconfiguring gauge and finishing the jumper. I think it would have had a long stay in the hibernation basket if it were my project 😂
Hehe, thank you! Honestly part of my drive for finishing it was guilt at not finishing something for my partner and just making more for myself 😆😇
The needle felting needles have barbs on them, which is what causes the felting. Your awls would have smooth shafts, so wouldn’t felt the wool.
Ah of course, that makes so much sense! Thanks for the heads up 😇.
I really enjoyed your Bendigo wrap up! I appreciate you showcasing some sellers that you didn’t buy from - there were some new to me names there that I never would have found otherwise (and am definitely going to keep an eye on some pottery from I Cast Mending…)
Thanks, I’m glad you got something out of it! I Cast Mending was amazing. Thinking about it again, I can’t decide between the frog and the tree stump. Which was your favourite?
some great items you scored there! my dad is a wood turner and you've got me thinking I should see if he could make me some yarny related items. he already has made me a yarn butler. there is another saori weaving studio in victoria called artweaver studio. it used to be in kyneton but she moved back to Melbourne recently and she does 1 day workshops for people to try it out. I've done about 4 of them and you can make 1-2 decent sized wall hangings in a day usually. it's called artweaver studio. it's so much fun!
That’s awesome that your dad is a wood turner! Do you use the yarn butler a lot? Such a meaningful tool for you 🥰 I’d heard of artweaver but haven’t checked them out yet. Trying to resist until I have space to get a loom hehe. Pretty impressed that you can make that much in one day. Although I guess once you get the hang of the movements then it’s really easy to get into a flow.
Loved seeing the Japan finds!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it! 🇯🇵❤️
33:20 She..vee...ot. ❤
Brilliant, thanks!
The Polwarth Lime Mortar colour looks brilliant with the Teal and the jumper will be soooo soft. Can’t wait to see it.
Thank you! 💚 Ahh, I really need to finish swatching and get started...
My sister is going to japan early next year, if possible, do you mind sharing the names of the yarn shops that you didn't manage to get to just in case she is looking to purchase some yarn whilst she is there?
Of course! They were Avril Kichjoji, Sheep Meadow & Co, Moorit, and Amimono Spin. And in case she's interested, my top non-yarn recommendations would have to be Enoshima island (best food I had all trip) and Small Worlds. Hope she has an amazing time!
Thank you so much for mentioning me!!! 🥰 and for all your nice words! It’s so hard to find size inclusive patterns and there are lots of times that I find a great pattern that I want to knit but unfortunately it isn’t size inclusive. I really appreciate the effort that you’re making to disclose that!!! Also love your Haskins! It looks great! And for the Dione, personally I think the grey and the teal creates a less jarring contrast and are probably safer with dirt. I always manage to get food on me so I play it safe 😂😂😂
Hey Ash, you’re so very welcome! It’s been so nice getting to know you through your vlog and on our sporadic knit nights. And I truly appreciated your insight into size inclusivity 🥰👸. I get pretty messy too hehe. Have decided not to go with the white!
It’s great to see you posting regularly. 👍🏻 I understand why you like the look of the white, but I prefer the grey because it doesn’t take attention away from the teal, unlike the white. I think buying a Tarndie undyed grey yarn is a good idea. Your hand-dyed Tarndie yarn deserves the best complement yarn rather than a compromise solution. I agree that using stash is better but it’s not as if you have to purchase much. (FWIW, I have just completed the Birdsong Sweater in Tarndie Fingering weight in “Blackened” and a light blue handyed of theirs. The yarn was a pleasure to knit with, the garment is so soft and I can’t wait to wear it.)
That sounds lovely! And I did go ahead and get some more Tarndie in the end 🤭. Haven’t swatched with it yet but very excited.
@@PlatypusKnitting Can’t wait to see it
Would the teal/green colour be colourfast?
I’ve just finished a jumper using Tarndie yarn in Black and a very soft blue. I didn’t have any bleeding at all, not a drop. I did use vinegar in a cold water soak just in case, but there was no dye in the water or the colour catcher sheets.
That’s great to hear!
I would assume so. I’ve used their hand dyed in another project and I don’t recall bleeding.
White, definitely WHITE, for stunning contrast & for softness too if ur sensitive. You’ll have to be xtra careful when wearing but this looks like a stunning wear as Sunday best project. Love ur podcast. ❤❤❤
Thanks, I love your enthusiasm for the colour 🤍! The contrast really is lovely with white. If I go with it I’ll have to use a bib or tuck a napkin into my neck whenever I eat while wearing it 😆. Small burden to bear for the beauty though right?
So good to see you again! and I'm trying to be more size inclusive in my pattern choices too. I really love the Haskins project and well done for sticking with it. I really struggle with my gauge and always have to swatch
Thank you! I normally don’t mind swatching but for these projects I think I was just overconfident 😅. How big do you make your swatches usually?
@@PlatypusKnitting I try and make my swatches at least 4x4 inches but I do try and make them 6x6. Especially if it's a new yarn. The dye from yarn can affect the gauge too so even though I have loads of BWM rustic, I swatch each time
It totally blew my mind the first time I discovered I was getting different gauge for the same yarn but in different colours! I must admit I’ve stopped swatching with BWM but really should start doing it again 😅.
i love how the blanket turned out and I think you made the right choice with the border. thanks for sharing the story behind why you chose it, that makes it even more of a special gift.
Thank you, that’s so affirming to hear you agree with my border choice in the end 🤗. And I’m glad you enjoyed my little side tangent story too!
Your Bear Illusion Blanket looks fabulous. Well done 👍🏻 With the Vest, I also think blocking may sort out any issues you have with the collar/neckline.
Thanks Jennie! I just took the vest off the blocking mat yesterday and it is fitting so much better, thankfully. Now I’m procrastinating on sewing on those buttons 😅.
Pink Fizz is a beautiful pattern. What a lovely friend you are!! I want to do a trip to Ballarat to go to the Crafty Squirrel and I kind of want to visit Sovereign Hill as well just for fun, but that bookshop sounds amazing, I will add that to my list of things to check out in Ballarat.
Ooh yes, I would’ve liked to check out the Crafty Squirrel too but d didn’t have time. Hope you get it there soon!
Your podcasts have so much information I feel as if I need to take notes. The plan for the border from Purl Soho for the Teddy Bear Illusion Blanket is a great one. I look forward to seeing it come together. PS, greetings from Ballarat 😊
Oh my gosh, hello Ballarat! Maybe we can meet up next time I’m there, although that’s likely years away considering my track record so far… I hope it’s not all too information heavy for you! That does make me so happy to hear you find it informative though. A lot of my favourites are the ones where I feel like I learn new things and I’ve always hoped to be able to do that for others 🥰🤓.
@@PlatypusKnitting Not too much info, I’m a bit of a nerd so it’s good for me. We could definitely meet up when you come we also have monthly pub knit nights/afternoons ☺️
Hi past Bobbie. Funny you mention binge watching cos that’s what I’m doing now. Looking forward to going through and catching up to present day episodes!
Hello present Laura! I love that hehe, am totally going to start referring to people as their past selves when I binge old episodes now. Thanks so much for tuning in and saying hello! Hope you enjoy and stick around 😇😊.
i have a lanolips lip gloss but i've yet to use it. for me I sometimes find I default to my simple mindless knit (usually vanilla socks) too much and neglect the more complicated or longer term bigger projects so I made a rule for myself that I can only knit my socks out of the house (eg on public transport, at knitting meetups etc) and it's helped me make a bit more progress on other things.
Ooh that’s such a good tip for balancing out your different projects! I’ll have to think of how I can make myself a similar rule (barely on public transport and don’t have a regular knitting meet-up, sadly). Thanks for the tip! I hope the Lanolips is nice when you get around to using it. Do you normally wear lip gloss anyway?
I love your bear Illusion blanket. I bought the yarn for the Star one after I saw yours, but am yet to knit it. (I plan to start it this Winter). However, I can see more than one illusion blankets in my future. I have tried the Lanolips Lip Balm. I really didn’t like it as I found it too sticky. I ended up tossing it in the bin.
I was thinking about your star blanket the other day! Hope you like the process once you start it 😊. That’s a shame to hear the Lanolips was no good at all for you. Really appreciate you letting me know though!
@@PlatypusKnitting I’ll let you know when I finally get started.
My Dad is super knit-worthy. He was hit by a car last year and spent almost 3 months in hospital. While he was in hospital I knitted him a few pairs of socks as a get well present. When I gifted them to him, he very proudly wore them to his physio sessions at the rehabilitation gym and was telling everyone that his socks were handmade by his daughter. I think I've knit him 4 pairs so far and almost finished his fifth pair. Even in the height of summer he is wearing my hand-knit socks.
I'm so sorry that your dad was hit by a car, but glad that he's recovering from it. He sounds like an extremely knit-worthy person indeed. Thank you for sharing ❤️
