noted!
never cared for microscopy nor am I ever going to buy a microscope but this video is quite entertaining 👍
how much is the machine? I imagine its within 5-20k?
Whether or not you have Kohler illumination tuned during the microscope can affect the final result, especially for delicate microscopic images.

What is the dark spot in the middle of the hair? 🤔
It's Medulla! The innermost layer of the hair shaft. This nearly invisible layer is the most soft and fragile, and serves as the pith or marrow of the hair.
Very interesting. My biggest problem is deciding if it makes sense to spend money on a better camera given the microscope I have. I am using an old Olympus CHA from 1981 with a Raspberry Pi HQ camera and a cheap no-name C-mount adapter between the binocular tube and the camera sensor. It's giving me ok results but the sharpness of the fine details is less than I'd like. I don't know if the weakest link is the camera, adapter or microscope. I tried comparing what I see through the microscope with my own eyes to the captured image and it seems slightly better when not looking through the camera but it's hard to judge. Is the next step here a new microscope or is it worth getting an SLR adapter or upgrading the objectives on what I have, or something else entirely?
Good question! Let me explain: 1. You need to get a sharp and nice image in the eyepieces. This is primarily affected by the objective. Secondly, the condenser and its adjustment. There is a video on the channel about the adjustment. As for the objective, most likely you have 160 mm lenses (not infinity). You can try another 160 lens - a higher class. Plan-apochromat or plan-fluorite. If you got a good image in the eyepieces, go to step 2. 2. The field of view on the camera should be an inscribed rectangle in the circle of the eyepieces. You have a small sensor camera, which means you need an adapter 0.35..0.5x. 3. The adapter, even if it is bad, usually gives good sharpness in the center. It will be bad at the edges, but we are focusing on the center. In theory, it should be good in the center. 4. If everything is very bad - look towards another camera. 5. If the contrast is low, you may have a uniform layer of dust in the tube where the dividing prism is for the camera/eyepieces.

i always thought electron microscopes were these huge things that only fit in a lab. this is realy amazing
Now I need one of these.
Ok, comment 1/3 was automatically removed and never come back. Comment 2/3 and 3/3 and 4/3 seem to disappear, but after refresh, are back there. This is comment 5/3 (so.. my fifth comment). My comment 1 was about this, but was more eloquent: You are very talented, the video editing, image, sound, lightning are impressive to say the least. Your microscope gear stellar and you know how to use it! I hope you will get in touch with microbe hunter for a live session each Saturday (15h30 Montréal time). Or any other content creator to do a collaboration video. You obviously deserve way more than a merely 1000 subs. Love from Montréal Sorry, I'm a bit pissed off because I've spend a lot of time on my first comment. Not your fault. So, read this comment and pretend it was 10x better and be proud of yourself cause we are!
This is comment 3/3
I've wrote a long comment and... again, it got instantly removed by automatic RUclips censorship! This is very frustrating! (and not your fault obviously). (comment 2/3)
So sad to hear about it. Please share you thoughts via email! /channel/about
Your video, editing, lighting and sound are amazing! You are VERY talented. Your microscope gears is beyond impressive and you know how to use it. Obviously, it's a shame for YT algo that you only have 1000 subscribers so far! PLEASE, PLEASE, contact MicrobeHunter to make a collaboration video or be a co-host on a live event (each Saturday, 15h30 Montréal time). Find any large audience RUclipsrs on microscopy topic and offer them to be featured in their video. Your SEM is surely a great asset to help them getting more views, and getting more subs to your channel as well. Win win. The amateur microscopic community is still 'micro' compare to the astro amateur community. I think you could be a key player to help us dream about this small world! Love from Montréal
I don't use commercial sponsors. @ZEISSMicroscopy, where are you? Buy me a cup of coffee! buymeacoffee.com/ericmuzipov
Why all the comment are automatically removed?
@@alexandrevaliquette3883idk, seems that something happened with YT
@@MicroscopySpecialist I know I know, not your fault... And YT is a free platform, so who I'm I to complain for sooo many awesome free stuff. This was more of a test comment to see if things still disappear. The only comment that matter is the original comment (who will be lost in the cyberespace forever) and the one who started with "Ok, comment 1/3". Have a great day!!!
I hope you could do a collaboration with MicrobeHunter one day!!!! He do live stream on each Saturday 3h30 PM Montreal time. Or maybe a collaborative video to compare your technology to optical microscope. I know he is open to that, but don't have the budget to dream of your impressive gear. Let me know if you want me to discuss with him (he know me quite well).
@@alexandrevaliquette3883 Thank you! Yes, I saw his channel. Maybe it will happen someday.
@@MicroscopySpecialist He did a colab one month ago. He is very open to get the hobby a larger audience. So, if you contact him, you are pretty sure you will be on the show. Leave him an email (look on his website). You don't have much to loose, and we all want you to shine!
3:52 THAT'S IMPRESSIVE!!! It would be nice to compare side by side with optical microscope. Common sample use for optical microscope (insect parts, salmonella bacteria from raw chicken, diatom, food sample, citric acid crystallisation with alcohol and polarization filter, nematode from garden, water flea from local pond water/sediments, etc).
No to brag... but.... I also got a microscope in 2024. It's a brand new SWIFT-380B with darkfield and rheinberg filters, mechanical stage and condenser. The image quality for live specimens is very good. Best purchase EVER! The "SNE Alpha" is about the price of a nice car... But we can safely say that a SWIFT-380B cost just a little more than two full tank of premium gas and maybe a car wash.
You just got a new subscriber!!!
can u please make a video on the effects of frequenyc/ music on cells? / atoms
Wow, can you please explain a little bit about it? Sounds interesting!
Im doing This type of experiment too
possible answer... 1. the tissue of a hook and loop fastener 2. there is a conductive wire inside every hair dryer, the job of the wire is to heat the air flowing out of the device. that wire is the same used in the video i think. 3. at first it looked like a broken pencil, but now that i am thinking about it, it is an electron microscope, so probably it is a cut electric wire "insulator + conductive wire inside" 4. ???? 5. a thread through a needle.
@@ABOUDIBRAHIM-h4j you're the best) But correct are: 2 - electric bulb filament. It's thinner than the hair (around 0.02 mm) 3 - shaved hair on the razor blade 4 - black pepper
@@MicroscopySpecialist I see, thanks for the clarification, a series of quizzes like this would be interesting, good luck !

I was in Winterthur, Switzerland, three weeks ago and visited the Technorama. On the 2nd or 3rd floor, I explored the biology "i think" department, which was truly fascinating. However, I was specifically there to see the electron microscope (SEM). I asked two young gentlemen if it was possible to turn it on, and they kindly did. The specimens we examined included a fly and a leaf, and we discussed how they gold-coat objects to make them easier to scan. The gold layer enhances visibility, which was really interesting to learn. It was a great experience overall.
I often asked to turn the SEM on in different labs, but they never let me. I had to buy my own, because it's very interesting. Yes, I will show in the next videos on the whole process in more detail, I'm working on the filming.
@@MicroscopySpecialist I asked how much an SEM cost , one similar to what Technorama has, it was anything between $250k to $500k , so a bit out of my range :p but yeah good luck if you can afford one, looking forward to see it
please spread this info as much as you can, i dont have a platform but you do, please use it to spread the truth
