The Nagano Lantern Festival is a winter festival that began in 2004 to commemorate the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics. It is held annually in early February under the theme of peace.During the festival period, Zenkoji Temple is lit up and lanterns with paper cutouts, "Yumetori-e", are lined up around the temple, welcoming many visitors.
