RUclipsに上がってる動画を見る限り型の解釈については外国人の方が日本人よりも創意工夫して積極的に型の稽古を活かそうとしているな。日本人の高名な先生には自国の武道なんだからもっと世界のみんなから見て参考になるような稽古の動画を残してほしい。正直外国人の方が向き合う姿勢は上に見える。

Oversimplification of the kata’s complexity. Or perhaps lack of understanding. Elite competitors often have poor understanding of practical self defense.

my eyes can only take so much. Since most of the people present here are black belts I wish Kagawa sensei showed the Ura Bunkai (hidden/more practical interpretation) instead. Maybe he doesn't know. Who knows. Please, don't give me the excuse that bunkai is something you learn on your own. It's unfair to market that you teach self-defense yet you teach something ineffective and unrealistic. My 2 cents.

Just watched this and noticed the Israeli sensei flinching every time Sensei Kagawa demonstrated on him. When I used to train with Senseis Enoeda and Ohta in Marshall Street, if you moved in bunkai, they got very annoyed and would sometimes remind you about control. Very strange to see a Dan grade shy away.

I wonder how many of these have ever had a Street fight, none I'm guessing. Just living on the glory days of scoring points in a game of tag.

Being good at competition kumite and kata is not the same thing as understanding what kata means to karate. Please don't "teach" these nonsense to students, especially influential instructor like this man.

Kagawa Sensei is a great karateka with excellent standard kihon and standard kata, but apparently he is not too comfortable with this kata. His legendary front kick does not look well when executed from neko ashi dachi and his turns seem somewhat unbalanced. His usual consistent and powerful kime cant be seen much here.

I kove Kagawa Sensei.However these applications are boring and not practical.

What a load of rubbish. Understandable that children are present and the applications are safer to show them, but none of these are practical in any aspect. I hope people don't think this is applied karate. Have a look on John Burke or Iain Abernathy for inspiration.
