Dragon 32 Game : Rebellion by Roy Coates and Chris Larkin Unpublished

Dragon 32 Game Rebellion by Roy Coates and Chris Larkin Rebellion was submitted to Microdeal but never published. Roy Coates shared the game on Facebook in 2024. It's quite a fun shooter though difficult in 1 player mode. Dodging the computer controlled player's bullets is harder than avoiding the aliens!

looks silly
An Usborne book! Alright!
Defo POKE 65495,0 here.
It's a handy Poke!
Wow this took me back to typed in games of yesteryear, with the syntax errors that ensued. POKE 65495,0
Ha - debugging is half the fun!
@@davysretrocorner You need to get out more!😆
@@JuxtaCrucem Correct!
Roy Coates lived only a few streets away from me in Liverpool. He did a cracking job of Manic Miner !
he's in the dragon group
Yep - a first class port with a bonus screen or two if I remember correctly!
Heh... you should try it in SG12 or SG24 (using the techniques we showed on CocoTech #006).
Ahhh The Dragon 32 !! I loved that machine ! ... the Basic was pretty good, but slow.
Great fun to code BASIC !
There was adware at the beginning of your video , so i voted with a thumbs down.
You've most properly already seen this Dragon demo but just in case you haven't... ruclips.net/video/e-xLSwyAlJ4/видео.htmlsi=LtZBKAz8zUkFtA0T
😊
Oh god the Dragon 32. That's where I started my game development in 1982/3. OBTW. Would it be quicker to poke the chars on the screen instead of printing them? I've subbed and hoping for more dragon Vids ! I know it's hard getting subscribers... I'm looking for more myself
Cool! What did you work on?
Awesome job :) So You precalculate all values (for all variations) and then just print them on the screen. Nice :)
Please play some more!!
Mercury bug fixed!? Cool. 30 year old bug fixing...
They reused the Mercury position variable for the delay loop too - an easy spot!
Even though you are my deadly rival when it comes to Color BASIC type-in programming 😜, I have to say this is awesome! Love the "like and subscribe" screen.
It's a pretty good game and gets decent speed out of High Res for BASIC. Thanks!
Nice! But code listing went by a little fast, so thanks for the Github link. 😄
My first play of this was actually on a TRS-80 Color Computer, not on a Dragon. It was a re-release by T&D Software, and it appeared on Issue #24 (June 1984). Thanks for posting about the original version here. Do you have a release date of the Dragon version?
Nice!
Cool beans!
Thanks for code!
Thanks for posting code link!
Thumbs up. It’d be cool if you could show the basic listing too if not too long I’d like to convert to other basics
Thanks for the suggestion - will add to future videos!
I subscribed but please up the audio love the channel
Thanks for the feedback - I will boost the audio track for the next one!
Super. Love the End screen using your box routines!
Well spotted Jim!
Not bad for a simple BASIC program but could be optimised to avoid almost all flicker: * Add the speed up poke 65495,0 * Draw the ground once * Don't redraw the lander if it's position doesn't change. * Erase only the difference between the old and new position.
Love your music choice!
If I had to guess - they draw the current lander, and then immediately erase it, do all the calculations for where it gets drawn next, and then repeat (rather that draw it, do all the calculations, then erase and repeat).
Yes and the ground gets drawn every game loop too!
Thanks for making something for the old MC-10.
It's a pleasure! Thanks for watching.
Very nice.
Super cool game!
Cool!
Very cool!
Cool Robin Hood game!
Super cool looking game!
Super cool!
Cool!
Wow, that's one powerfull lil bouncy ball.
I remember hacking this game and removing a line of code that stopped the walls resetting after the lasers .
Brilliant Dragon game, tho basic. Pun intended.
Also Space Panic as well, since Lode Runner is essentially a clone of that arcade game :)
Horse 5 would always win race 1 every time so we used to go all in with a win on the 1st race. Loadsamoney.
Ashens brought me here.
I typed this one in at the time! Thanks for the memories. The bit where you have to go through the tunnel is still pretty cool. I like(d) the fact that it embraces PMODE 0. Blocky, mono and proud!
First game I ever played on the dragon 32.
Someone please make an app of this game, can't find it anywhere
Great to find another Dragon 32 channel here. Not many of them around!
"You have 10p" "You win 10p" I can hardly bear the excitement Love the graphics & sound though!
Yes I was always amazed at the care and quality gone into this one. Agree that many £8 (or more) offerings were inferior. Multi-voiced music in a £1.99 title, what the hey! Happy positive graphics and a cuteness factor that made you want to play again. Thanks for uploading, I enjoyed watching - laughed aloud at the little Donkey Kong/"The King" reference in the sound at the start of level 3. I did get around that one, back in the day - I think it loops around and then there's a second sponge on level 4 and a denser rain of sugar cubes that I never got past on level 5.
Thanks, I'd never seen this one. It's fun, but looks like a toughie to me!
With a proper Dragon joystick, it might be easier!
Brilliant!
