Elliott’s a brilliant singer, probably one of the best singers of that season, I love that song for him, his version was the reason why I loved that song! The arrangement was too jazzy for my taste but his vocals are just incredible!
Ah yes. American Idol. Where a fan base called the “Soul Patrol” -a barn of middle-aged, fat hausefraus jettisoned a talentless hack like Taylor Hicks (my motorcycle boot has more “soul” than he did!) to victory, while a singular talent like Elliot Yamin doesn’t even make the final two.
Their voices isnt light, never. Specially Prime Mariah. Kelly's voice nowadays has gotten darker and heavier on her middle modal register. These two woman can do grunts and growls and there is no "light voice" can do that, ie. Leona, Ariana, Both Mc and Kc have mid sized voices!
The best voice of the season and he lost to who? Randy is full of dope! LOL
He actually sounds very similar to Donny Hathaway!
What is wonderous about Elliott Yamin in that season is that: OBVIOUSLY he is an astoundingly great singer, but there are 1000 really good singers who audition for a show like this. What stood out about him is his unique blend of tone, style, and genre preferances. You can just tell that his entire experience since conception has been about singing, perhaps after his mother. AND YOU CAN TELL HIS MOTHER HAD GOOD MUSIC TASTE! This man needs no warm up!

here it is 2024 and i remembered this performance today, couldn’t get it out of my head. looked it up and it was 17 years ago WOW. he was no doubt the best male vocalist on that show.

Hi from the last few days of 2024. And yes, I agree with you! Loved him from audition days when he sang "If you really loved me". had no idea who he was or what the song was either but he KILLED IT and caught my attention!

Elliot Yamin took one of my favorite songs that I grew up on as a little girl in the 70s and sang it making it his own style while still paying true respect to Donny Hathaway's version. F.Y.I. This song was originally sung by the Carpenters . Their version is great as well. It's 2024, and I still love Elliott Yamin music. I still have his first CD and still play till this day. I still say Elliott Yamin was robbed!! Y4L !!! ❤😊
Leon Russell wrote and recorded this song, then Andy Williams covered it, then Donny Hathaway covered, THEN the Carpenters. It was originally written by Russell for Rita Coolidge.

I think she puts too much Growling technique within although she has contralto type with Thick timre but she sings the song too far different from The original ones and i feel boring hear it😊

This was the only season of AI that I watched. Elliot was the only AI contestant than I ever voted for (week after week). There was a lot of talent that season so I could handle Elliot coming in 3rd (not that I agree with that!) but I wish his career after AI had gone further. There's still time. He still sounds great performing with The Lao Tizer Band.
This was probably Sway's best performance on the show. It all just came together. That was awesome.
Elliott is one of the best male vocalists to ever hit the idol stage hands down.
