huge root on this cutting. its not just the different substrate, but that may have helped allot.
What do you guys think about peroxide and water soaking overnight?
I'm curious you're a container fig grower will any ever be put in the ground you should try since you're in the southeast pick one and throw it in the ground watch how big it gets
Trees look good, very nice collection!
Thanks for the idea.It rains a lot during this time in Thailand.I'm thinking of using a plastic bag to cover my pots.
Wonderful collection ☺️🤩.Watching from Thailand. I started growing figs a few months ago. They grows really slow and it rains a lot right now. What kind of fertilizer do you use?
Nice collection!
You gifted me on some cdd grise baud cuttings on our figs thank you! What is that material your making the covers out of?
Are you selling cuttings for Celeste and rande de bardeux?
Those cuttings are very healthy, looks like you are doing something right with them! I havent seen your fig channel before, subbed :)
Nice...
Hey brother fig lover that is a fignominal grow closet!!! No really I just subscribed and catching a few highlights, and this is a big highlight! Great work!
Thanks , it was allot of work. That was all of my closet space too. Now my clothes all hang in the washroom on a rod. But it was worth it. Now I have many trees that are twice as big(Or bigger)as they would be if I waited for spring to start them outdoors. And that will make them much larger next year than most of my trees were in year 2 or even yr 3. So 2 or 3 months indoor growth helped put me 1- 1.5 years ahead with several varieties.
I need to go get another roll of that foil bubble, I used all mine to create a sun block for my pots. This fall I will be painting a bunch white. Also I need to make a few of those rain blocks for pots that are just too big to shuffle. Keep on rockin those figs!!
Hey man, what did this year that was easy and quick. I bought real alluminum foil duct tape, the real alluminum stuff. And wrapped some pots with it. Much easier than painting them. Wrap and bam its done no dry time. And you can leave 1 to 2 inch of exposed black between strips of the alluminum and still get a little extra heat if needed too. I think I am liking the 3 ring wrap prett good. At least on 3 gallon pots and 1 gallon pots .One ring at the top , one ring in the middle and one ring down low but not blocking holes. Leaves just enough black plastic showing to get a little heat but not too much..
@@southeastfigs5451 I did think about using that foil tape, but it would cost me a pretty good penny to caver all my pots. lol The wife already had some paint, so I'm going to use that up...then I might do some of the smaller ones like you did. Good idea though!
Amazing how they can have so many different leaves, I suppose that is why it is so hard to identify some varieties. So far I have got to eat 1 Alma, would have been 2 but the birds got to one. Thinking of putting 1 of those in ground....even though it's not a premium fig....it's made for the south, I believe it would do great in ground.
Nice trees bro , I’m excited about yolo bypass it’s new to me but still no figs
Me too, yr one had 2 figs develop but was too late in the year. Now the tree that has figs is still in its pot from last year, it was up-potted sometime around mid season into its current 7.5-8 gallon pot. And was left alone this spring. The other two were repotted this spring and not even a nub of a fruit yet. So far it seems that it needs to settle in a pot and be left alone to get figs. At least at this young an age. The other key to me having so many figs on so many trees has been using a bloom boost fertilizer starting after the first 3-4 weeks of active growth, and stopping the higher nitrogen at that time. I used Scotts super bloom this spring it has a 12-55-6 NPK. Easing off of the 20-20-20 which stimulates more veggitative growth after the first 3-4 weeks, and switching to a bloom boost fertilizer helps the trees put more affort into fruit production instead of focussing so much on veggitative growth. Theres nothing wrong with lots of veggitative growth, but if you want actual figs then a bloom boost/fruiting fertilizer makes a world of difference. The first 3-4 weeks using a 20-20-20 or similar helps kick start green growth so you get a good burst of leaf growth and new branch growth, then switching to bloom boost helps the tree start focusing on fruit production more quickly and can help you get way more figs .I also love JOBES all purpose organic pelletized fertilizer with Biozome, meaning it has Mycorrhyzal fungi and archaei and stuff for greater root health, and helps all around health too. I mix that in mix soi before hand. And if Im not repotting a y Tree then I side dress it into the top 3-4 inches of potting mix close to the outter edges of the pot. I know you didnt actually ask. But thats how I generally keep healthy looking trees on a regular
@@southeastfigs5451 good info bro thanks
Beauriful trees. You just gave me a ton of fertizer advice on ourfigs & I want to thank you again. 😀
Your welcome. We lived in the Arizona Desert when I was a kid, Nothing but sand , rocks , and tumbleweed . but we lived in the middle of nowhere on the hwy next to the burger stand my mom ran. My dad did other work, I was only like 4-5yrs old so dont remember much. But I would love to visit the Desert again. The exact spot where we used to live actually.
Dang bro....those trees are looking great! Some very nice work man. Your gonna have a nice bounty in the next few months.
Yeup, I have gotten my first two plates full from ginos black and nero 600m. Ginos Black looks nice but it is very difficult to get them ripe with flavor. I will keep the tree and let a branch or 2 stay ginos black for a couple more seasons while I hunt a replacement. To see if it gets its flavor back as it gets bigger. I will probably put it in the ground though, and see how it reacts. I think I got the cutting for free from BackWoodsSouthernLawyer on ourfigs. Need to simply ask him if it can ever have that great flavor without being kept 90%dry the whole fruiting cycle.
the figs are getting ventilated air!!!!!!! they better grow and produce.
Your trees look nice and healthy. You must really like that smith! I just potted up a rooted cutting of smith today.
Havnt tried it yet, but so many people say theu should have just put several smith in ground instead of just one that I am taking their advice. Of course I will try it first but gotta be good as many people rave about it so much.
@@southeastfigs5451 Smith did rank really high in our local fig tasting last year.
@@gapey what others ranked high? From my research, smith isn’t very cold hardy so I’ll probably end up keeping mine in a pot until it’s main trunk is thick enough to try a zone 7b winter.
@@firstname7769 last year the top 5 main crop figs were petite negra, RGR, RdB, and MBvS. White madeira ranked high too but we only had one little fig that I brought to split 10 ways so was hard to get a good sample of it with such a small bite.
@@gapey cool. How big were the RGR? I’m rooting it right now and I’m excited about the idea of huge figs. Only had RDB this year and those were tiny.
Everything is lookin good over there brother, That "CH" you got from me that came from the nursery def. looks like a Mt. Etna type from the leaves...but the fruit is slightly different, has the small white spots like a VdB type. Interesting. Wish my CH would kick it in gear! lol
Everything is lookin great Jamey, That's a lot of Smith trees! lol
Yeup, keeping mine I got from you, its going in ground next spring or possibly this fall., and keeping one of the others so I have two and have one in a large planter.
@@southeastfigs5451 I'm working on rooting another one for me, I think I'm going to keep 2 of this one as well....if it fails I'll do another AL.
Looking good bro, I have been transitioning some to outside as well. so far so good.
Cool start to your channel. Great info for fig enthusiasts down there. If I end up doing a video on the air layering technique you shared with me, I always give credit to the originator. Good luck man!
Wow man your really cookin in there, those are some great looking trees....gonna be a good year bro...I can feel it! :)
Hey bro. I havnt paid my phone bill cuz I gotta change phone numbers after those people cloned my number and stole money off my debit card. And I been sick for over a week so havnt gone to change prepaid phone numbers yet. Thats why u aint heard from me and I havnt posted a new video yet. I shot one but didnt have the energy to even post it. Anyway wanted to say hello. I am getting better finally. Gotta pot up fig trees and set them out very soon.
@@southeastfigs5451 Dang man, that really sucks....understandable though. Hope you get all that worked out. I have some knee issues happening right now so haven't been to work in 2 weeks. Well let me know when you get another number. You don't go to the forum anymore?
@@ktrain4996 I do . just havnt felt like it the past few weeks so much going on. Got outside for the first time in the yard for a couple hours and I am beat down. It will take a few weeks to really bounce back. I aint been sick in a couple years but when it hits me it hits me hard for whatever reason. Always has been that way ever since I was a kid.
@@southeastfigs5451 I haven't been doing much with my knee jacked up....Wife is helping me shuffle plants in and out. Tonight they can stay out with a low of only 50. Hope you get feeling better bro....good that you got some time out in such nice weather.
I do it similar to that as well....have a lot to do still!
Rite. I just finished the last ones. Like 17 lsu tiger and 21 vista. No more for me. Im gonna have to put all these small pots in bigger pots. Like take one 20 pot fill with soil and set as many 1 gallon pots in it as possible. That way I dont have to water 2 or 3 times a day. At least for the giveaway trees. There will be quite a few
@@southeastfigs5451 You may need another grow room my friend. lol
You Sir are having some very nice success in there, lots of great looking plants! We may have to do some more trading bud :)
You are a busy man, that all looks great! Good times bro.
Looks like that stuff will work good...might have to switch :)
I been using it for maybe 4 yrs. It does work good.
Lookin real good Jamey, your gonna need a welding mask it will be so bright in there. lol Awesome man!
That is a great idea! You could a hundred starters in there. I saw the shelves how many are you gonna put up?
Just 2 shelves. Leaves room for trees to grow
Lookin good Jamey, That room will glow with light! :)
Coming together brother!
