Bahia Principe Review day by day at the GRAND TULUM!!! Day 1: impressive that the room key was the wrist band so no need to carry a separate key. Italian restaurant closed for remodel. Only two outlets in our room with one plug each. Our decorative bed pillows had a lot of fun prior to our arrival based on the stains. Day 2: During the day we lounged by the pool. We ordered a Pina Colada which tasted very weird-like some chemical taste. We decided to have lunch at one of the pool-side snack areas, we noticed birds bomb-diving the nachos that are left out in the open. Later that evening, there was a post on the menu board saying that there would be music played at 9:10 pm in the Lobby Bar so headed that way. By 9:30 pm nothing was happening so I went to Guest Services to inquire, and the young man said that it had been moved to 10:30 and will be in the Atrium. He apologized that there was no communication. It was too late for us, and we were tired, so we headed to bed. Day 3: rinse and repeat for the day. Breakfast was okay. We used the gym which was adequate for what we needed: weightlifting for my husband and a treadmill and elliptical for me. On the way back to the room we decided to book a massage at the spa. There are promotions everywhere (on our tv, in the lobby, etc). When we went to the spa, we were surprised at the increased price. We told the young lady that we saw a promotion for a 50-minute-deep tissue massage for 1870 MXN. She stated that was a promotion provided by the hotel and we would have to go to the lobby and book that. So we went to the lobby at the kiosk that showed the promotion of 1870 MXN; however, when I clicked on the promotion, the screen went blank. We tried several times, but nothing happened. We decided to go to Guest Services. The young man stated that we would have to go to the spa to book our treatment. We told him the conversation we had with the spa, and he said there was nothing he could do for us as they do not book spa treatments in the hotel. I referred to the kiosk that showed the promotion. He again stated there was nothing he could do. I was extremely frustrated at this point and was probably a little loud saying this is a false advertisement and they should be ashamed of themselves. He decided to call someone to assist us. The very nice gentleman promptly took care of us and booked our spa treatment for the amount that was promoted. By this time, it was lunch, so we decided to get a veggie burger at the Andale Burger Bar. You must order at the only kiosk that they have so after waiting for about 15 minutes, we made it to the kiosk only to find out that there is no veggie burger on their menu. I remembered seeing one at the Food Truck, so we headed back that way. They had a couple of kiosks, so I ordered quickly and went to the bar to get a drink while waiting. By the time I made it to the bar, the bartender left the station. After a few minutes he returned and stated he had no more glasses so he would have to wash them himself. It would take about 15 minutes if we wanted to wait. At this point, it was a long line so I decided to wait, figuring it would take a while to prepare our veggie burger. Our vegan lentil wheat burger and fries was ready in about 15 minutes. And if you are thinking “lentil wheat burger, yuck”, you would be correct. It tasted like yuck. I didn’t hate it as badly as my husband, but I put a ton of condiments on mine once they refilled them. That’s another thing, when we went to get ketchup and mustard, the dispensers were completely empty. We told them and had to wait for about 10 minutes before they were filled. The chef happened to come by with a couple of his staff members delivering an appetizer and a tasty cocktail. My husband told him what he thought of the veggie burger. We decided to head to the buffet to find more sustenance. The rest of the day we spent by the pool. The day before we were able to get two towels each. Today, however, after giving our room number, we were told we could only have one towel. I stated that we received two towels the day before. The young man asked for our room number again and stated the exact same thing (one towel each). I said I didn’t understand what changed from yesterday to today. Again, he asked for our room number and stated the exact same thing. It was fruitless so we grabbed our one towel and left. Later, I went to get us a couple of cocktails, but the main bar was packed so I headed to a smaller bar across the way. It was a lengthy line but less than the main bar. When I made it to the one bartender, he told me that this was the premium bar, and I would have to pay for drinks there. Nope. I went back to the main bar. The rest of the day was just relaxing by the pool. The day before it was posted that there would be a magic show, so we went to the room to shower and dress for dinner and the show, but after we ate (the food was better in the buffet) there was no indication that the magic show was on. There was music by the pool, but we decided to head to the room. Day 4: Keeping it short unless something stands out. The breakfast buffet was good this morning. Lunch buffet: vegetables were nicely done. Dinner at the Indian Restaurant Thalli: quite good. Extremely spicy but good. The Matcha Green Tea Ice Cream was a great coolant from the spice. Day 5: Breakfast buffet: nice. Since our dinner reservation was for 8 pm, we decided to eat a later lunch at 2:30 pm; however, they closed early due to setting up for the Holiday event that evening. It would have been nice for this to be communicated as our only other option was French fries at the Food Truck. When we showed up for our evening reservation, we expected a special dinner as that is what we were told when we checked into the hotel-that there would be a special dinner served (served throughout all the restaurants) and we would have to make a reservation even for the buffet. Well, it was nothing special as it was just the buffet. The one standout was the decorations. They were spectacular so it was worth the buffet dinner. We decided to go to the Christmas Show so we appreciated what they put on this special event. Day 6: over the past two days I witnessed something that was quite disturbing. I have noticed that most of the kitchen staff in the buffet area do not wear gloves when they come into direct contact with food. The first time I saw this was when a young lady was replenishing oranges. Using her ungloved hands, she grabbed a handful of oranges from the kitchen tray and threw them on the customer serving tray. No oranges for me that day. I have been observing this lack of hygiene practice since but tonight was a more egregious one in my opinion. As I was waiting for the spring rolls to finish in the fryer, I witnessed the cook open a bag of rice noodles and throw them in a wok, add some liquid and toss the noodles around. He then shook the spring rolls in the basket. Afterwards, he took the large vat of rice and placed the rice in a large pan. He then used his ungloved hands and plunged into the rice to break up the clumped together rice. At that point I lost my appetite for rice. Day 7: low key day. Came back to the room as the rain set in and waited for our room to be cleaned. We had finished off the two room temperature beers that were in the refrigerator so we assumed they would be replaced, but not. I noticed this upon entering the room and immediately asked the housekeeper for replacements. He called someone up and came into our room to investigate. I showed him the empty fridge and he called down to someone who said they would be up in about 10 minutes to replace our beer. They did in about 10 minutes but didn’t replace the water we had used, which I didn’t notice originally and assumed they would replace. We asked for a replacement and at the end of the night we had a half bottle of water…no replacement. Day 8: same as days previous so I will not keep going on. Overall: we had our room cleaned only every other day. On those days something was left off. One day we had no washcloths, one day our bar was not stocked (no water, beer, etc), etc. We tried to make do but it was frustrating. Our shower threw water all over the bathroom floor. We thought moving the shower head closer to the wall would help, but water still fell onto the floor so our shower mat was always soaked…even when we sacrificed one of our washcloths to catch the water that flowed over the wall. We would not stay here again.

Also, how is the wifi there?

I'm an early bird - I like waking up at 5:30 AM and walk to the beach. Can I walk or do I have to wait for the trolly?

Myself, Mrs and 16 year old son are looking at booking this for Aug, from the UK. May i ask how safe it is to explore the shops, bars and restaurants around Tulum as we have read some bad stories.

nice video how many al la crtes are at this hotel as i think most are located in the other hotels? its actually cheaper for me to stay here than tulum but got 2 young kids so didnt know if its just worth staying at tulum. are their any extra perks to this hotel to the others premium alcohol etc

I've found the middle pool or even the swim up bar end of the main pool quieter than the adults only pool, last time we were there Dec 2023 it was a bit club 18-30 at the adults only pool. We've been twice (daughter and me) and never bothered booking the adults only block, I have heard in other blogs that the corridors can get noisy at night, a problem you don't get with the villas.

My husband and I had a completely different experience than you had and wish we had yours. It was by far the worst All-Inclusive Resort we have ever stayed in and would not ever come back. I have a 3 page review written up with all the issues we had during our holiday vacation here. The overall rating is a 2 star with the worst food, customer service, waiter service and on and on. You mentioned waiter service at the pool. We were there for 8 days and never once was asked if we wanted anything from the bar. The small bar you showed in the beginning of your clip was for premium alcohol only with a charge. I found this out on day 2 after standing in line for 15 minutes to get a drink. Where is this adult only pool you mention? We visited all of them at the GT and kids were everywhere, as well as, seagulls, raccoon, Nasua, black birds and every other creature imaginable. Food: again a completely different experience, excluding the specialty restaurants which were very good (with limited vegetarian options), but the buffet and smaller snack bars were terrible.
