Al & Val's Flooded Drive Final Fix!
Просмотров 70Месяц назад
We finally got the driveway repaired where our creek flooded and washed out around our dual culverts. We ordered a dump truck load of gravel, layed down some road fabric underlayment and our neighbor came over with his tractor to place and pack the gravel and dirt over the remaining washed out area. Links to the material we used are below. We receive a small commission on each sale using our li...
Al & Val (mostly Val) build a Butcher Block Counter Top
Просмотров 247Месяц назад
Valantine has wanted to try and build her own butcher block counter tops since we first decided to build this house. We're FINALLY doing it! We had some of the nice Maple, Ash and Oak from our property milled by a local Amish sawmill into slabs. We cut and planed those down to the sizes we needed, glued them up and planed, then sanded them several more times until we had a solid, smooth top. We...

Flooding at Al & Val's Homestead

The remnants of Hurricane Debby traveled all the way up here for a visit. It wasn't particularly nice. When it Rains, it Pours

The porch roof was finished just in time. We get a lot of rain up here coming off of the Great Lakes, and our area in particular gets dumped on pretty heavily (we're at the top of the highest hill in the area). It dumps snow on us the same way.
It takes a lot of work to prepare for winter....
Просмотров 262 месяца назад
We have to plan our year out to make certain we have everything we'll need to make it through the long, cold, snowy winters here. We have a LOT of debris around the 30 acres here to clean up, and it's more or less a constant project for us. With building the house a priority, we haven't had much time to spend on taking care of the property other than to keep the fields mowed and cleaned up as much as possible. Heck, just keeping that 1/4 mile drive in shape would be a full time job.

      I'm in the early stages of learning to edit videos, so it will probably take me a little longer to get content uploaded, but we've got a LOT of things in progress that should make for some interesting viewing. The wife has become a real craftsperson and is building her own butcher block countertops, a kitchen island, some other furniture, and we'll be restoring a small wood stove to like new. The acreage will always provide a lot of material as well. With 30 acres of hardwoods (Maples mostly) and miles of trails through them, creeks and streams, deer, fox, coyotes, wild turkeys and more, there is always something going on. We're also going to tap the maples for syrup, and we've got loads of Amish neighbors who show us new ways to do stuff. If you've got any ideas or things you'd like to see, leave a comment or 4 and we'll add those to the growing list! And THANKS!

    • @AlAndValOffGrid
      @AlAndValOffGrid 4 месяца назад

      Running a line to the house would have cost us more than our entire solar system and we'd still be stuck with monthly payments, power outages and keeping corporate CEOs in yachts. I'd been researching off-grid living for a few years prior to making this move, so I'd already pretty much made up my mind to do it. The huge expense just to run a line to the house was just the final nail in the connected coffin. We've never looked back.

    All the prep work made the difference. Once we had everything measured, cut and ready for the floor joists, it was super strong and level with the existing sub floor. We made sure to have everything lined up so that the 3/4" T&G flooring we laid down over the old section and our new section were nice and even. Made for a good even surface to put our finished flooring on once we were ready to install that.

    Bluetti is a great company to do business with. We bought this unit on June 12th and discovered yesterday that they're running a $100 off special. I contacted them to ask for a refund of that $100, never expecting anything, and the next day they responded that they were issuing a refund for $100 to the card I used for the purchase. You don't get service like that much any more!

  • @scotts.8460

    Hey David, this thing sounds like a beast. Is the Anker 757 the same thing as a Bluetti AC200P. I mean, do the both do the same thing? I don't have a Bluetti yet, it is on my list to get. But if they are somewhat close in what they do, the Anker sounds like a much more robust unit than the bluetti. Am I close or are they two totally different items? Thanks in advance.

    • @AlAndValOffGrid
      @AlAndValOffGrid 2 года назад

      They in fact both do the same thing. Bluetti just has more power available (to run more items or larger items) and should last a bit longer before needing charging while doing so. The Anker indicates a 1500 watt unit while the Bluetti is a 2200 watt unit. The Anker offers 1229 watt hours of usage and the Bluetti offers 2048 watt hours. So the Bluetti is in fact the more robust of the two. From Bluetti's information: 2,200W AC Pure Sine Wave Inverter (4,800W Surge) 2,048Wh Capacity LiFePO4 Battery with 3,500+ Life Cycles to 80% Expandable Up To 6,144Wh with 2×B230, or 8,192Wh with 2×B300 7 Ways to Recharge (AC/Solar/Car/Generator/Lead Battery/Dual AC/AC+Solar) 900W Max. Solar Input 1300W Max. Fast Dual Charging (Solar + AC Adapter) Smart Control & Monitor in BLUETTI App Finally, you can add additional batteries (up to 2 I think) to increase storage to over 8000 watts. I hope this helps!
