There were two cars. So what the guy was late turning in, because you have never been late turning in ever? If it was me I would of just let him in, it's not the end off the world for god-sake. Some drivers are just to stubborn and childish to let someone in late, but expect others to let them in.

Arrival In PNG Friday 3rd April 2015 My Flight had landed in Port Moresby, the Capital City of Papua New Guinea; however my baggage had been delayed. While back in Brisbane I had been told by the Qantas ground crew that they could only guarantee me catching the flight not my bag. If my bag was delayed it would be sent out on the following flight about three hours later. Port Moresby, I had to hang around the airport waiting for my bag for about three and a half hours. I was very hot and sticky. I was wearing my heaviest clothes so as to keep my baggage weight down. I had already removed my heavy jumper and was now just wearing a sweat soaked tee shirt and my black jeans that had long started to cling to my legs. The airport, although to be fare was undergoing “modernisation” had a lot to be desired. There were a couple of vending machines that were very temperamental in what coinage could be used to vend and a mobile phone shop. Very basic! To sum this place up, a money exchange, an air line office, a mobile phone shop two vending machines and about twenty or so airport security officers. Outside a few 4x4 adventure company transport mini buses a couple of taxis and an oil drum bin that was the allocated smoking area, surrounded by several men chewing the beetle nut or smoking. An Australian called Craig was returning to Cairns having been in PNG for 6 weeks. I asked him what the best places to visit and see were. He replied “in all honesty mate, the best place in New Guinea is the departure lounge inside the airport”. Craig said the place was filled with “savage like mentalities that have nothing to lose”. He told me in his opinion, he believed that local people just saw white people as an easy target and suggested that I removed my red striped arm plaster cast so as not to draw additional attention towards myself. I chatted to almost everyone in the airport. I had an interesting chat with an airport security officer “Ben”. He had asked me “why big white man” was in PNG alone? I explained that I was to do a “Sepik River Cruise”. He wished me luck and explained that white people go missing in the East Highlands region (Sepik Province) that I was about to visit. He went onto explain that I should be very careful and stick with my tour group and that I was a “big crazy white man”! It seemed that the local people here were not very used to dealing with “independent travellers” it’s still a novelty to them. I had booked this tour via an American company called pngbudgettours.com a part of BLUELATITUDESTRAVEL.COM (based in USA) the manager who dealt with my booking was Chris Rosenkrans. So I emailed Chris to let him know that I was going to be a bit late and sent him my new flight details. Once my bag arrived I paid the 780 Kina for my new flight to Wewak. That was an expensive late bag! I eventually arrived 40 mins late on the later flight to Wewak. I followed the few other passengers off the aircraft and across the concrete plane stand to a group of small run down looking single story concrete and corrugated metal buildings. It reminded me of the airfield buildings you would see in an old war movie. We were headed towards the small building to the right of the complex and then to the right again where there was a very large solid wooden bench with a sign with our flight number chalked on it. Our bags arrived about 10 munities later in a rusty broken and smashed looking metal cage trailer being towed by a very noisy and smoky tractor in similar dilapidated run down condition. The bags were dropped off the back of the trailer onto the big wooden bench. After baggage collection I followed the other passengers through a gate into a car park with a big sign that said “Arriving Passengers Collection Point”. There seemed to be so many people here collecting so few passengers. I was looking around for someone with a sign or a car with a tour company logo on it but nothing. My fellow passengers were making their way to their awaiting cars, trucks or mini busses until there was only about twenty or so people still hanging around. I was then met in the car park by a guy who introduced himself to me as “Albert the tour guide” he was about 5’9” Athletic build mid 40’s with short receding hair and very black, he was wearing a “Burberry” tartan type “button down” short sleeved shirt, jeans, trainers and a red baseball cap but no name badge or clipboard. He just had a piece of paper with my name on it. Following just behind him some other people about 4-5 in total. “You are Mr Simon” he said. He took off his baseball cap and wiped the sweat from his forehead onto the back of his arm that was holding the cap, he reached out to shake hands. “Yes I am, and before you get any ideas... I taste like shit! So no point eating me”! I replied. He laughed as he led me to the car rental caged compound where my bags were put into the back of a dirty old dusty white Toyota crew cab truck by one of the guys following. I wondered if this really was a hire car, there were no stickers inside like normal hired cars and the condition was pretty poor and it was as filthy as hell. Albert and his “brother in law” Kevin plus the driver took me on a 10 minute drive to the Guest house. All the while Albert and Kevin explaining that the ground manager had not paid for my full tour and that Albert had only received about 50% of the budget for the trip. He was directly hired for my tour by Jenny from @2014 based in Gerocka. I was more interested at looking my new surroundings. It seemed very isolated and poor and it all looked as if it had unfortunately never seen better days. If I needed to get away in a hurry, where would I go? We only passed one or two cars that kicked up huge dust clouds as we avoided each other on route to the guesthouse. The roads were poorly marked and crumbling to dust at the edges where it met a 20’ grass verge that reached out to various fences and walls of properties. Most of the houses and buildings were behind locked gates, the majority of which had a security guard or two hanging around. I saw no sign of any police or military on the road, just the occasional group of people standing around small stalls that had been set up at the side of the road here and there. I was looking for a public building, a police station or even a petrol station where if needed I could at least make a phone call. The website states Description Day 1: Arrival in Wewak Arrive in Wewak Airport and pickup by our ground staff to transfer to Wewak Guesthouse. Welcome Dinner and relax with a view over the river mouth to the Pacific and the edge of PNG. Inside and downstream lies your odyssey into the last frontier of humanity, the most untouched reach of the earth by modernity, and the cradle of hundreds of different languages. 1146 km long, the Sepik is one of the planet's greatest and most epic river journeys. Vivified in the minds and museums of the world, this prism of fantastic stratified culture up and down an enormous geographic area ranges through hundreds of different and distinct languages and cultures, many still a mystery as to how they got there and why they became so unique. This is where your cultural buffet begins.
