Even folk like dj ride and lil uzi vert have a specific look they’re going for and probably stuck with. please dont use femme and girl/woman interchangeably. femme is a term for queer men and women who present more femininely and often (not always) take on traditionally "female" roles whether in their relatonships or other aspects of their lives. it is Not another word for woman. it is an identifier term. you wouldnt say that "butch" refers to men. femme is the same in the opposite direction and applies to gay men as well (whereas butch doesn't) . please respect femmes by not referring to our term as just another word for woman, or something that implies inherent she/her pronouns.

    • @edwin-bj7ry
      @edwin-bj7ry 11 дней назад

      for example, chappell roan is a femme lesbian. usually "flamboyant" gay men are femme. both my partner and i are nonbinary and transgender and femme. neither of us are a man or a woman. we're both still femme. and not to be "oFfEnDeD" but i do take offense to my identity being reduced to something it is not. i am not a woman. my partner is not a woman. gay men who wear skirts and makeup and jewelry and act like theyre somebodys nonna are not women. the thing we all are is femme.

    • @briemme
      @briemme 11 дней назад

      Ah gosh sorry about that. I used it to be more inclusive of nonbinary identities, as I have a friend who self-describes as femme and nonbinary, and uses the term "femme" the way I did in the vid. I hear you! And thanks for your comment. I'll be more careful with the term.

Can imagine butch and gender non conforming women also being saddned or even just women who happen to be masculine bc of life circumstances (like being an only mother and having to work a "masculine job" like plumbing to provide) basicly being told you're less of a women bc of your distance from femininity.

    I liked this video, but 5:06 I had some thoughts on. I don’t think it’s wrong that women are the majority doinh household tasks and being the “primary caregiver” (mother). In fact that’s exactly what I want to do when I’m married to a man. I’m not going to “choose” to do the least possible, I choose to do this. Also, women have motherly instincts men don’t have. It makes sense they’re the ones who take care of their kids. I think women def should have a choice on whether they want to do household labor and be primary caregiver or not, but I would actually really like to

    • @onemin8729
      @onemin8729 10 дней назад

      I mean, it is still true that women do this more often than men. Saying that we have more "instincts" and so it makes sense that we are the ones taking care of our children feels more like a justification of something that will always be pushed on women no matter their decision. Not saying that you're wrong by wanting to do so, It's great, but let's not be blind to the problems of the perspective of "well, It's only natural for you to do this"

    • @el972
      @el972 8 дней назад

      Actually it’s a problem, women carry the society on their backs doing unpaid labor, this is just pushing gender norms and labeling as natural because you want it and it’s trying to somehow justify it, if this was natural women wouldn’t be forced and groomed to this type of behavior all their lives, just say you want it this and drop the b-but nature, all this trad wife thing is just a way to trap women because you don’t have money at all and it’s taxed mentally/physically by taking care of the house, baby and your husband that also acts like a baby

    I wonder how artists like Billie Eilish fit into this because I remember she was lauded for not ‘Sexualising’ herself in the beginning but then during her second album when started dressing feminine she actually saw a huge drop in popularity and now she’s back to her masc self and popular again. She also has talked in interviews about how she hated her fem phase because it didn’t feel like her at all

    • @briemme
      @briemme 11 дней назад

      This is such a good point. For Billie’s drop in popularity during that phase, I wonder if it’s because her fans like her for her authenticity? And maybe the whole femme phase felt performative. Hard to say but I like this idea!

    I don't know who that other girl in the video is but she was absolutely on point. Not to make this about dudes, but it reminds me of Eminem "the way I am" where he explicitly says he won't do autographs, "you can call me an asshole, I'm glad". As for the topic in general, it's very tough to divorce individual will from the expectations of those around us. Here in Europe we discuss the burka and head coverings and so on and if those should be banned. But how can we know if the woman wants to wear this and we are banning it? Or is the woman oppressed and we are liberating her? And can we legislate based on this?

    • @JessicaSilva-gq7zc
      @JessicaSilva-gq7zc 12 дней назад

      Yeah, it’s a complicated issue. Some women are indeed forced but how can you help them without restricting other women’s freedom to dress how they want?

    • @KC-2049
      @KC-2049 11 дней назад

      @@JessicaSilva-gq7zc I think it's just about being mindful of the choices we make. instead of saying "it's my choice to perform femininity!" as though that choice happens in a vacuum, we can maybe say "I exist in a society where dressing/looking/performing like this is very much a part of social expectations for me, and choosing to acquiesce to some or all of those expectations, while I perhaps do genuinely enjoy it, does provide less resistance than abstaining".

    This is a pretty interesting video! One of the reasons I'm hesitant to make videos or stream online is because I've noticed how many of the more popular female creators dress up to be as attractive to men as possible just to be listened to. It throws me off, I don't want to do that, and I don't want to be held to that higher visual standard. Especially when you look at someone like Penguinz0 who became iconic for just a white shirt, long hair and a beard. I don't think a woman could ever recreate that, a d if she dressed like him she'd look "sloppy". I know that shouldn't stop me and doesn't mean i dont have a shot, but it's a little depressing.

      as someone who gave up wearing makeup 10 years ago (which, ironically, a lot of dudes think is somehow still for them and I'm a not like other girls... which I'm not lol) I struggle with the same thoughts. men are allowed to be out here no makeup, barely groomed, in the same cargo pants and t-shirt they wear every day, and then you see their girlfriend in skinny jeans, long hair done, manicure, makeup, and women STILL get dunked on for "spending money on trivial things"? get outta here.

Also, do research that is actually coming from a positive source. The 1950s US nuclear family structure was no family at all, it was just a woman with her children isolated from the world so she can be manipulated and/or abused easier. Real trad family is grandparents, cousins, godparents, uncles, aunts, friends, old schoolmates, church, village... and they all work together! Stay safe girls, nothing is worse than being an imprisoned woman.

    It's really interesting to learn about mormons as a devout Catholic woman. Scary how they subvert actual Truths to be a sort of white islam with apple pie. You get rid of original sin with a valid baptism, everything else with confession and actually not sinning isn't hard, I don't even think about it, I just live. Nobody can tell you your future, this is just wrong and will cause you anxiety and stray you away from God. You don't have to get married as a woman, many royal women fled to cloisters to escape arrainged marriages, the poorer ones just worked, helped in their communities, had friends and family around even without husband and kids. Women always worked, more than men even, because they also always did emotional labour, talked with people, fed them... it's so sickening seeing women reduced to a rose under glass that is losing both pettals and thorns every day.

And you bet if she wanted to get out, those 8 kids would not be coming with her. The behind the scenes glimpse, it what nightmares are made of, for woman. I don’t think, that in general, the homestead lifestyle is problematic, if and here’s the big if that’s what the woman actually wanted, in life. You want to be a home maker fab. What I find so upsetting, is that the smattering of social media has really degraded people who have chosen a simple and productive life, authentically. There are plenty of people that farmstead, cook from scratch, and raise their own children because they find the quality of life to be so worth it. Those people just live that way, and don't plaster their life all over the internet. They cook for their families without a camera. But now, this life is being labeled as "Trad Wife" which is unfair, and largely - inaccurate.

    • @JuriAmari
      @JuriAmari Месяц назад

      Agreed. There are plenty of homesteader creatives that don’t go the tradwife or conservative route. The issue is the algorithm plus promotion that makes the association much harder to split. With Ballerina Farm’s case, it’s a textbook example of how unrealistic and exploitative it can get in the wrong (read: highly controlling) hands.

    I’m not really that concerned about Hannah since she chose this life/was born into it and no matter how much we talk sense, she would choose her man. I’m more pleased that the facade of trad wives snobbishly looking down on normal working women has crumbled. Sure you can enjoy that life but I love love love that these trad wives can’t be snobbish about it like they have it all. “Ohhh the trad life is so rewarding and as it should be! Entrust all your finances to your husband. Be fruitful and give birth to fill a school bus.” Like no Hannah l, I do not enjoy working myself to weeks of exhaustion and pumping out 8 babies without pain relief to be rewarded with an unwrapped egg apron. No Thank youuu. I want a life where if I want Greece, my daughter and I can go in a snap of a finger with my own money. apparently a wife of a JetBlue heir can’t even have the freedom to do that..

    To me, these types of trad wife influencers never really caught my eyes bcs I know what real traditional lifestyles look like. It’s not this over glamorous lifestyle where women who have millionnaire or billionaire husbands get to cook, clean and pop out babies. My grandmother was in a traditional marriage. She ran that household with an iron fist. She cooked, cleaned and kept the household finances bcs she was the one who needed stuff. She was the one who ran to the market, she was the one who made food, canned it, sold it at the market, she was the one who sewed clothes back together and sold those services to other people. These traditional women I saw also don’t have a bunch of babies bcs they necessarily want to. Why would you add mouths to feed when you’re barely scrapping by ? These women I saw and know are just too poor to afford contraception. Women have always worked inside and outside of the home and this newly revered & glamorous lifestyle ONLY came about during the Industrial Revolution. My people back in the home country, earning 2$ a day, aren’t anywhere close to progressive. They’re completely traditional, yet women work hard at home and still go to the market to trade & sell. It’s backbreaking work and isn’t all that pretty when your husband and his daddy aren’t rich. This new tradwife concept is a myth only accessible to the upper middle class and crucially linked to a purely white European myth that was never and will never be a reality for my people back home.

      I couldn’t have said this better myself!! The real iteration of “traditional roles” is laborious and unforgiving. And the tradwife movement is a glamorized version (only available to the upper classes). It’s a fallacy for most!

      It never was a reality in Europe either. It's a purely American evangelical nonsense

    “Letting your brain fully cook” is not a very good metaphor. I get the idea. But some people (I’d say easily most) who belong to a belief system, do not change that system. If you’re stuck in it at 18, you’re unlikely to change, on average. Do their brains just… never “finish” cooking?

      I’d say so! Not everyone has the space (free from high-control systems) and privilege of time (pre-parental responsibilities) to develop independent ideas and to explore their personhood

    This video is so well executed. You are extremely well spoken! Every so often I am reminded of high-control religion and religious manipulation and it really makes me step back and evaluate my own religion and religious views. It helps me to recognize issues and maintain a healthy spiritual life by making necessary changes!

    Though I've never seen her content myself, i had heard people talking about Hannah in the past and i just thought that she was one of those women who actigely and consciously perpetuate these cycles and ideologies. After readihg the article though, she comes off more as someone with ambitions and goals who was convinced by other that sacrificing herself for her family was her only (good) option. I truly feel so bad for her.

      Thats what I came away from the article with too. I can just really see that for myself, had my circumstances been different and I’m so thankful that I’m not living that life.

      It’s a fascinating and mindblowing dynamic. Hannah is coming from a highly controlled religious background (LDS) and she felt a sense of liberation from a highly controlled art form (ballet). But the latter was by choice until it was forced out of her life by the expectations of the former. I hope she finds her sense of agency again because it’s gonna get very unsustainable, especially with the way her husband is pulling the puppet strings.
