Glycanion Milk Fever Case Study, Eoin O'Connor - Co. Tipperary
Eoin O'Connor milks 170 high-yielding cows outside Cashel in Tipperary. Having come through a difficult spring in 2023 with a high number of milk fever cases, Eoin and his Vet, Michael O'Connor from O'Connor Julian Veterinary Hospital, collaborated with the Pharvet team to put a preventative plan in place for 2024. High potassium levels in Eoin's silage represented a significant challenge and Bil Ryan from Pharvet introduced the Glycanion DCAD product, a unique, palatable and effective liquid anionic solution with glucose precursors that could be easily fed. The results saw an 80% reduction in milk fever cases on the farm.

Why didn’t you clean the hoof off first? That’s not sensible honestly
I feel doing this is very important if the animals really needed it but if we do over shaping causes disturbance to the animals. Many times I have seen that bleeding the hoofs while somebody doing to shape the hoofs unnecessarily. Cleaning the hoof and removing the extra grown parts are acceptable but it doesn't mean to shape by human as they wish as these animal gets paining sadly. We need to understand that finally these animals have to move through the rough surfaces where they needed the tough hoofs to protect themselves but if we make the hoof bottom lighter then it's easy to get them damaged and infected. Thanks.
Why don't they clean the mud and poop off first?
ever heard of a hose ?????
Las pezuñas de la vaca estarian mejor si limpiaran mas el sitio donde estan las vacas

A few questions, no disrespect intended, Why trim the weight bearing outer hoof wall and leave horn raised in the center of the hoof? I why not clean the hoof injury area before bandaging? Thank you in advance.
