Boost Your Creativity with Collage
Просмотров 488День назад
In this video I demonstrate a sketchbook practice that I have come to love and it means I never throw away any paintings, even the ones I don't like! By tearing the painting up and rearranging the pieces into a collage I create new artworks that may go on to inspire some final paintings. Using crayons to shade in the tear lines is another fun addition to the composition. If you would like to su...
Creative Play In Abstract Art - Boost Your Creativity
Просмотров 586Месяц назад
Hi! Today while I paint, I'm chatting about how important creative play is for growth as an artist. Play and experimentation like this is one of my favorite ways to get my creative juices flowing and to try out colors, layers and mark making without worrying about the outcome. So whether you want to take some loose pieces of paper and try some new materials as I am, or doodle in your sketchbook...

Following Intuition in Your Art - When Less is More
Просмотров 1,6 тыс.5 месяцев назад
This week I’m following an intuitive nudge that I've noticed coming up recently in my creative process. I've been frustrated by feeling the need to fill the paper or surface I've been painting on rather than leaving any areas blank. Today I experiment with this in a painting where I'm purposefully leaving some of the paper blank. I really like the feeling of space this gives in the artwork. Wha...

Thankyou Kate - these look great!😊
It is very nice I don't have colours but I would definitely get them in order to do something like this
Lovely! What an honor it would be to receive one. Please put up a short of the finished cards….
i could watch you all day but you give me so much inspiration I HAVE to create!! TYSM

Yes, I really did appreciate this video. I loved following your thought process as you auditioned parts to go with other parts of your painting. Looking forward to more videos.
Thanks for posting! Nice to see you gay!
This is really interesting and really appeals to me. Thank you for sharing.
Beautiful work my dear! 💙🩵🖤
Beautiful! 😍🤍
So happy to see you again. Thank you for your beautiful work and ideas❤
Dear Kate Louise, I’ve been missing your wonderful videos. I hope that you are well and just taking some time off. Thinking of you and wishing you well.✨🙏✨
Lovely vid and fabulous pieces for inspiration for bigger paintings. Your colour palettes are wonderfully cohesive and interesting. Cheers from an East Yorkshire girl who lives in sub-tropical Australia these days x
Ooh I love this idea, I'll have a go on one of mine... it's great to be reflecting what's on the inside 🥰 x
lovely.
I do this loose painting often, I start with two colours of darks, to establish shapes then spend the rest of my session adding lights to make it into a picture that’s pleasing on the eyes’ it’s fun and no pressure’ very similar to this demonstration , I also do them at speed ‘ so I don’t overthink etc love your videos and thank you for sharing.
One of the most useful presentations of colour mixing I have seen. I know summer is over but I am def going to have a go at working my way thru your sheet. Thx! Best r
If this is your play..I’d love to see the real stuff! Love it! I aspire to be so free in painting!
These are beautiful.
Thanks for sharing! I need to get a sketchbook to play and experiment! I like your art and color choices! You have a new subscriber from Southern California!
Your playtime is inspiring, thank you.
❤ yes play and grow! Thanks for sharing.
These are all so beautiful. You’re so blessed to be able to make such evocative images from imagination!
Dear Kate, thank you very much for your beautiful videos. Your collages particularly appeal to me. Could you make a video about it again? Thank you very much and see you soon 😊
Your work is very inspiring! Thank you for sharing it!❤
Beautiful work!
I start my paintings without planning, usually with the darkest dark making marks vertically, then add some mid tones and finish with the lights’ using around 3~4 colours and B and W . I add some pencil lines with a little thought of focal point using thirds’ then take a look thinking about shapes and overall design, I do it intuitively, until I get a pleasing result for myself, I make lots of failures too, I always think from a batch of ten I get 4 that I’m pleased with, and two I think are good! Others go to collage pile! Or they get a second go! This is generally my approach etc. I Enjoy your videos and thank you Happy painting’
Lovely palette Kate… inspiring! 😊
Lovely inspiring art but your presentation is far too slow.❤
Your art is truly so lovely. We are all privileged to learn from you!
Thank you so much for the lovely comment!
What are u using, watercolour or gouache or what? Thanx for adding some description of the materials to the text. Lovely art you do❤!
In this video I'm using acrylic paint. Thank you so much x
A masterful command of colour and shape! It’s always a pleasure to watch you work.
Thank you so much! Really means a lot.
Thank you for sharing this. It’s so inspiring I can’t wait to have a go 😊
You're very welcome, have fun! x
Amazing to watch the layers being built up
Thank you so much!
Beautiful and so inspiring! Thank you!
Thank you so much, really means a lot!
Thank you very much for Sharing. Really beautiful work.
You're very welcome, thank you x
I just Love watching your process, Kate. While I’m not much of a fan of a limited color palette, I can surely see the value in this sort of play. Ironically, I was limited with gouache colors today and I made a lot happen with lemon yellow, cad red, cobalt blue and black and white. I loved some of the muted tones I was able to create with them, quite by accident. Thank you!
Thank you so much for the lovely comment. That sounds like a great colour palette, I don't use lemon yellow too often but you've inspired me to pick some up and have a go :)
Love these! As it happens, tubes of burnt orange and primary blue found their way into my basket at the art shop today, so i know what i’m going to be playing with tomorrow 😊
Thank you. Ah fantastic! I hope you had a good time playing with those lovely colours!
Very impressed and plan to try this!
Thank you! Hope you had fun trying it :)
❤❤ so beautiful🎉
Thank you so much! x
Making a ‘mistake’ helps us develop and learn, otherwise we would just keep producing the same things. I enjoy watching art videos and trying new things. I haven’t got a style and don’t really want one. Each idea of a painting is unique and inspires me to use different media. Really enjoy your mark making.
Love your work .... styles and colours. I'm catching up on your videos! Inspirational, thank you.
Thanks so much for the lovely comment. Hope you enjoyed the videos.
I wondered are you working from a reference or from imagination?
I was working from imagination on this one thinking of the moorlands near where I live :)
You have completed inspired me😊
Thank you so much x
Thank you got making discover Soraya French! I am sooo captivated already, I need the book :)
You're very welcome! It's a great book, hope you enjoy! :)
I just love all your art pieces! thanks so much for sharing your tips and process..ps..do u ever use gouache ? I find acrylics to be so messy..which do u prefer and why?
Thank you so much. I really appreciate your comment. Yes I do use qouache in my sketchbook sometimes because I love the chalky matte finish and it's handy to use when I'm painting outside. I prefer using acrylics because they dry quickly and I can add many layers over the top without disturbing the layers underneath. I've only used traditional gouache though and not acrylic gouache so this is something I'm excited to try.
These are so lovely. Y make it look deceptively easy but i’ve tried enough tutorials by now to know that there is a lot of learning and skill in those brush strokes!
Thank you so much. It means a lot!
A very "Turneresque" feeling to these pieces. Really effective. Thanks 😊
Thanks so much! Really appreciate it
Wonderful! Love your process. ❣️
Thank you so much :)
