@@gjestalle6198 tbh I made this ages ago and forgot a little about it, but from what I remember I was basing this mix loosely off of the energetic heretic KNO3,Al,S,NaHCO3 mix but using calcium nitrate in place of potassium nitrate most likely cause it’s cheaper. I also added some urea nitrate to it in the hopes of sensitising it atleast a little (UN is very insensitive anyways so I’m not sure why I did that). A more refined mix with better density could probably be decent ish (4km/s? Maybe?) but power wasn’t the point anyways of this, cheapness and availability was, and it certainly met those goals.

@@TheFireGoose certainly very nice anyway, UN has a similar molecular structure to AN so it doesn't surprise me that it kinda boosted things. The etn is also very interesting.

@@gjestalle6198 yeah UN like you said is pretty similar to ammonium nitrate in structure and to be honest a decent explosive in it’s own right, it’s very cheap and easy to make but again not that powerful. I think the reason I wanted to test the calcium nitrate mix is cause it’s somehow even easer to make than urea nitrate since there’s no need for any nitric acid or reaction, just mix and go. I think in the future though I might try this out again and the default energetic heretic mix a bit. I think they would be good for just having fun with or for larger charges. Small charges or destructive charges and not so much

Maybe but maybe not. It’s not very powerful especially in small amounts and also quite hard to initiate. I’d use something else other than TMDD.

I think siler acetylede will do the work or can I heat shock it with Rcandy which has worked but sometimes it bunt the whole etn and idk why the etn didn't explode it just melted the blasting cap

@@faze_polskasquad8453 ETN heatshock can be a bit hit and miss, it’s best to use a primary to initiate it, especially if you want to makes caps n stuff. NHN Is what I would recommend, but sads is very good too.

@@dimamashnin2787 like I said 60~% hydrazine hydrate. Per 100ml of solution 60g of hydrazine 40g of water or there’s about. For making NHN the concentration of the hydrazine hydrate really doesn’t matter that much, if it’s lower use more, if it’s higher use less.

It’s probably not hexahydrate cause I heated it very strongly but it is still in a hydrated form. For NHN it dosnt matter, it could be anyhydrous nickel nitrate, the hexahydrate or anything in between and it’ll work just fine :)

To be honest in commercial smokeless powder they use all sorts of special additives to do that but if you just want a good homemade one that works they aren’t necessary. Assuming the nitroglycerin is very clean and pure (all residual acids removed etc) It should be chemically stable and mixing it with most absorbent solids will desensitise it to a good degree. The NC you mix it will will form gelegnite which is less sensitive than ng alone. To further decrease sensitivity and further increase gas output adding something like nitroguanidine too would work very well, and would technically make a triple base smokeless powder. You could probably add very small amounts of say carbonates or something to make it even less sensitive too.

From only erythritol and sulfuric acid No. but from erythritol, sulfuric acid and nitric acid or a nitrate salt yes. Amounts may be 60g erythritol, 120ml 60% nitric acid, 150ml 96% sulfuric acid. Or 60g erythritol, 220g kno3, 250ml 96% sulfuric acid etc

Yeah ik, will do sometime. I’m currently experimenting on glycine nitrate and trying to find out more about it. It’s an amino acid based explosive that’s meant to be pretty powerful, if it is among a few other things it could make an excellent explosive due to its incredibly cheap and easy synthesis. Might make i video on it if the tests go well.

So 2 common ways to make it may be Reacting stoichiometric amounts of nitric acid with ammonia then evaporating the solution to crystallise the ammonium nitrate or Doing a double displacement of calcium nitrate with ammonium sulfate to make insoluble calcium sulfate and ammonium nitrate which stays in solution that can be filtered then crystallised.

It doesn’t make particularly strong mixes, I don’t think they would exceed 2500m/s but they are powerful enough to have some fun with, especially in larger amounts. Good luck with your test :)

I use those ratios cause it’s still a fuse sensitive mix. Any higher percent of ETN and it would most likely start to suffer reliability issues when lit by fuses etc For boosters or something though then 40-60 NHN to ETN would be best most likely. Or you could get funky and keep the original 60-40 NHN to ETN (or something around there) but add a little bit of powdered Al

@@TheFireGoose Aluminum is an excess so there is no need to put it in the mixture if you try to use 60-40 ETN-NHN (correct ratio is 61.92/38.08) its already balanced and it would probably just thrown away after it detonated

@@plyxxx9073 it isn’t all about oxygen balances and stoichiometric amounts, aluminium helps sensitise both NHN and ETN, which is generally a good thing since reliability will be increased. And with just ETN Aluminium might give a small power boost due to the positive ob of the ETN. I bet 60% ETN, 30% NHN and 10% Al would work alright, or atleast somewhere around there. Maybe a little more ETN like 65% idk and I don’t particularly care.

Certainly, so to begin you need to find a source of nickel metal, normally this can be purchased online but you can find it elsewhere. The nickel should be as pure as possible. Once you have the nickel you then need to place it into either a beaker or round bottom flask and add an amount of nitric acid. The amount needed will vary depending on how much nickel you are using, but I generally find that if you add the acid till it covers most of the nickel that’ll be more than enough, but if not more can be added later. The concentration of the nitric acid isn’t too important here, anything above 20-30% and below 90% will work just fine. Although amounts needed will vary depending on concentration. Anyway once the acid has been added apply heat. The nickel should soon start dissolving into the nitric acid forming nickel nitrate. It’s common for nitrogen dioxide to be released which is a toxic gas so be careful. If the nickel isn’t dissolving very fast small amounts of hydrogen peroxide can be added to speed up the reaction, this may also cause nitrogen dioxide to be released. Once all the nickel has been dissolved simply evaporate off any excess acid to crystallise the nickel nitrate. The nickel nitrate here will still be quite acidic but that can be resolved by simply recrystallising it. There is also another method where you displace calcium nitrate with nickel sulfate, filter the nickel nitrate solution and crystallise that, but I prefer the other method.

@@user-ie5mg8ko1b store underwater. HMTD doesn’t sublime like TATP. And wash with a decent amount of bicarbonate water but you don’t need too much.

Probably but why tho? Without washing you would be left with a sticky acidic mess that would be incompatible with most additives and would probably degrade overtime. Wash it :)

@@zayzay9098 well if you add too much urea not all will be converted into urea nitrate so you’ll have a urea contamination. Just wash the urea nitrate once it’s made. It’s very easy and stops many problems.

Starting from the top 250mg loose nhn, 250mg nhn/ETN mild press, 250mg ETN harder mild press, 250mg ETN hard pressed. Both ends sealed with paper/foil and super glue with 3mm visco fuse

​​@@TheFireGooseNo, I mean how did you make such a strong aluminum tube using aluminum foil? Cuz whenever I roll aluminum foil to make a tube it ended up such weak tube that you can squeeze with a little force and sometimes it shatters apart 😢

@@plyxxx9073 oh lol i didn’t make the tube, it was an aluminium tube bought from a store, I think 8mm outer diameter 1mm walls. It’s gonna be damm hard to roll a strong enough tube out of aluminium foil lol

Thank you a lot for the reply :) I’m sure that if you freebased good quality hydrazine sulfate properly it would work. Alternatively you could distill hydrazine from the freebased sulfate to purify it to around the level of the hydrazine used here. I wanna give that a go sometime. Making decently concentrated hydrazine hydrate from simple easy to get materials :)

You can normally get it as coins, nuggets, bars etc. alternatively you could just buy silver nitrate. Don’t worry though a few grams of silver will take you a very long way when it comes to making sads so it isn’t ‘that’ expensive

Hmmm maybe, and that is a very big maybe. Potassium picrate, while a primary explosive isn’t a very powerful one and is also very hard to get a good density. During my tests with it I’m pretty sure it was able to detonate small amounts of ETN but not reliably I think. In comparison to lead picrate I have heard that kalium picrate is a little weaker. Safety wise it’s more than safe, impact and friction are no problem here, same with stability. Det velocity I don’t know but I doubt it’s very high, probably no more than 4km/s at max density. So all in all it is a potentially useable primary but just quite hard and weak to use. You’ll probably have to make a specific sort of cap that differs from most to get it working proper.

@@plyxxx9073 yeah that and cause I there are other primaries i use instead of lead picrate. I also don’t have any picric acid any more. It was staining literally everything yellow so I used it all up

It could be, doesn’t mean it will be though. Power from flashpowder comes from a few things but one important factor is particle size, the finer the faster and normally stronger. I guess this is cause all the components are more homogeneous so can react easer and quicker. So if you had both potassium persulfate and mg flash that was super fine it would probably be louder confined than course Kclo3 and mg flash and vice versa.
