I can just about remember the dualing of Halifax Road road from Howarth Cross to Smallbridge. I also remember a company that sold hay from premises on the corner of Buckley Lane and Halifax Road. That was in the days of the long-gone Halifax Road school.
I remember the corn merchant and also recall it being at the end of Buckley Lane but members of the local history group with better memories than mine have it as being at the end of Wesley Street, the next street towards Littleborough. As I recall the owner's name was Uttley. There was later a shop which sold materials for making fibreglass and it may have been in the same premises. The history group still meet and can be found under Wardle and Smallbridge History Group (WASHG).
