Have you ever experienced an emotional breakdown that led to a breakthrough? Share your story or ask any questions about navigating this transformative process. Let’s support one another on this journey to authenticity and resilience! 🌟
I've had three breakdowns, the first was two years ago this month after bereavement which left me with a soul crushing numbness and loss of my whole sense of self, identity and purpose. The second was after a fire that destroyed almost everything precious I had left and I became suicidal. No breakthroughs there! Maybe with me being a stubborn old goat, the universe decided I needed a few more tries before I learnt my lesson. The third breakdown was a year ago. And while I don't actually remember what led to it, I do think coming out this side of it has been transformative. I'm back to the same me I've always known myself to be, but maybe a few layers of mask have dropped off…. a few people are shocked to find out I'm a tree hugging old hippy at heart for a start 😂 Therapy has helped, despite me being a sceptical resistant avoidant old nightmare of a client, which says more about my therapist than anything else.
@@NiliG-wg6gd “Thank you so much for sharing your journey-it takes a lot of courage to open up like this. It sounds like you’ve faced extraordinary challenges, and it’s incredibly moving to hear how you’ve come through the other side with a renewed sense of self, even if the path has been far from easy. The idea of ‘dropping the masks’ and embracing who you are at heart-a tree-hugging old hippy and all-speaks beautifully to the power of transformation that can emerge after hardship. I also love the humor and self-awareness in your words-it sounds like your therapist has met you where you are and helped you navigate these layers with patience and skill. Therapy isn’t always easy (especially for us “stubborn goats” 😄), but it sounds like you’ve done some profound work. The journey to breakthrough might be winding and unpredictable, but you’ve clearly embraced it in a deeply authentic way. Wishing you continued growth and joy on this incredible path-thank you again for sharing your story. I’m sure it will inspire others who are struggling to believe in the possibility of healing and transformation. 🌳✨”

I left my laptop playing a video about trauma because a year ago I read something that made me realize I have some symptoms of trauma, I stopped my therapy a few months ago and these days I have so many flashbacks and emotional numbness. When I came back I found your video, and I am so grateful. I know I am going to start my sessions again but this helps a lot of people, recovery is something so difficult
Thank you so much for sharing your journey. It takes courage to acknowledge and face trauma, and I’m glad this video resonated with you. Flashbacks and emotional numbness can be so challenging to navigate, but returning to therapy is a powerful step toward healing. Recovery is indeed difficult, but it’s also deeply transformative. Please know you’re not alone, and every small step you take counts. Wishing you strength and clarity as you continue on this path. 🙏 If there are any topics you’d like me to explore further, let me know-I’m here to support you.
Hugs to you Maria. I also stopped therapy a few months ago but have found that I wasn't quite there yet and restarted again recently. For myself I found the break helped me to refocus on the areas I still need to work on. Wish you the best, don't give up, therapy with the right therapist really does make a difference. 🫂
Sheesh! I'm proper confused now! I think I do all four? 😳🤷🤣
Thank you for sharing your thoughts! 😊 It’s actually not uncommon to feel like you use all four 4F responses (fight, flight, freeze, and fawn) in different situations. Many of us have a mix of responses depending on the context, triggers, and past experiences. If you’re feeling confused, try reflecting on which response tends to be your go-to in highly stressful situations or when you feel most overwhelmed. This is likely your primary response. The others might be secondary or situational. Don’t worry-it’s a learning process, and self-awareness grows over time! If you’re interested, I could share some practical tips on how to identify these patterns more clearly. Let me know what resonates with you! 😊
Umm, ok... What happens if you cycle thru them all in the same situation? 🤨🤣 For example, in a difficult confrontational situation which reminds me of a history of violence around me, my immediate response is a wave of anger (fight) quickly suppressed, switching to 'I don't want to be here/do this' (flight?), which is again quickly brushed aside and turns into cold calm logic (suppression of emotions - freeze?), followed by conciliatory behaviour/appeasement (fawn?) .... by the end of all of which I'm usually quite knackered and annoyed with myself! 🙄 I'm liking this free therapy Doc 😜🤣... jokes aside, thank you, this is really very helpful.
There are many different types. I just got rid of a bag of them, I have few more to go. They like clinging on. If I am gay, what does it make my bully? If I am a bad person, what is the bulky. If I am a criminal, what is the bully? Hmm, do you get the message. Bully’s are weak, if they had a family, they would not have breath for me.
Thank you for sharing your experience. It sounds like you’ve been through some significant challenges, and it’s inspiring to hear about your progress in distancing yourself from bullies who don’t serve your well-being. You’re absolutely right-bullying often stems from a place of insecurity or unprocessed pain within the bully, rather than any reflection of who you are. It’s important to remind ourselves that our worth isn’t defined by the actions or words of others, no matter how persistent they may be. By removing toxic influences from your life, you’re reclaiming your energy and prioritizing your well-being-a powerful step forward. If you’d like, feel free to share more about your journey or ask any questions. This community is here to support and grow together. Keep focusing on your growth and resilience!

Very helpful, thanks Dr T. For myself I have certainly noticed that my asthma seems to flare up when I'm stressed or anxious. Breathing techniques help.

awesome!
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it. Your support means a lot-wishing you the best on your personal growth journey!
Thanks Doc, it always fascinates me how something that can be an incredibly good experience for one person can be triggering for another. Reminds me of a school trip to one of the museums a long time ago... one of the exhibits was a journey inside the human body with the longest queue for the womb experience, where you stepped into a cubicle with a representation of the sounds of the mothers heartbeat and blood rushing as a foetus would experience it. While everyone else seemed to find it a magical calming experience and wanted to spend more time in that space, I had a full blown panic attack! 🙄 Guess that single episode on its own explains a hell of a lot 🤣
Thank you so much for sharing that deeply personal experience. It really highlights how profoundly individual our responses can be to sensory stimuli, especially those that touch on deep-seated memories or triggers. It’s fascinating-and at times challenging-how what might be soothing for one person can evoke such intense reactions in another. Your story is a powerful reminder of why a tailored, compassionate approach to mindfulness and healing is so important. Thank you for being open here-your insight helps others feel seen and understood too. Sending you compassion on your continued journey! 💙
@DrTonyWeston thank you... as a great therapist once told me, no one needs to go thru their healing journey alone 🙏 and conversations like this hopefully help us all feel less isolated
I used to eat a lot and veg out in front of the TV for an hour before doing homework.
Thank you for sharing that. It sounds like you found a way to decompress and reset after a long day at school. After-school restraint collapse can manifest in so many ways, and giving ourselves (or our children) space to unwind is crucial. It’s interesting how those moments of rest and comfort can actually help us process the day and prepare to re-engage with tasks like homework. Your experience really resonates! Thanks for being part of the conversation.
@DrTonyWeston I thought I was just being hungry and mentally tired at the time. I used to find that the school holidays weren't long enough to find myself again except in the summer one.
Thank you Dr T, this was very informative and helpful
Thank you so much for your kind words! I’m really glad you found it helpful. Wishing you strength and insight on your therapeutic journey. If you have any other questions or topics you’d like covered, feel free to share!

@DrTonyWeston Thank you! It's always helpful to be reminded that you don't have to be in a crisis to seek support 🙏 And since you asked 🤔😜 here's a suggestion of a topic for your consideration… strategies for dealing with the avoidant parts that sabotage the therapeutic relationship/process
Good
Thank you! I’m glad you found it helpful. Your feedback is appreciated-feel free to share any specific topics you’d like to see covered in future videos!
Would be nice to have something added to your section about mindfulness- those with PTSD and anxiety disorders might find mindfulness unhelpful dealing with their symptoms, unfortunately ends up prolonging the stressor than removing it. Very helpful though thank you 😊
Thank you so much for bringing this up! You’re absolutely right-mindfulness can be challenging for those with PTSD or anxiety disorders, as it can sometimes increase awareness of distressing thoughts and feelings. Trauma-sensitive approaches, like grounding exercises or mindful movement, are often gentler options that can help with presence without overstimulating the nervous system. I appreciate you sharing this perspective, and I’m glad you found the video helpful! 😊
keep going
Thank you so much! Your support means a lot. I’m excited to keep exploring and sharing pathways to well-being and healing. Stay tuned for more, and feel free to share any topics you’d like me to cover!
People need to be way of their sexual feelings. Do not allow your sexual feelings and fantasies to motivate you to support bullies, rapists, wife beaters, child abusers, muggers, and abusers. Sexual feelings are powerful. So if you allow your sexual fantasies to support abusers, then that is wrong.
Thank you for your comment and for raising such an important point. Sexual feelings are indeed powerful, and it’s vital to remain mindful of how they can influence our thoughts and actions. Exploring sexuality in a way that respects ourselves and others is essential, as is recognizing any tendencies to project or align with harmful behaviors. I appreciate your perspective on staying conscious of these dynamics to ensure healthy, respectful, and non-harmful relationships with ourselves and others.
Thank you sir, may Allah bless you
Thank you so much for your kind words! I truly appreciate it, and may you be blessed as well. I’m glad you found the video helpful, and I’m grateful for your support.
Fascinating topic thank you Dr T. Makes me wonder, is competent bullying akin to narcissism?
Thank you for your comment! That’s a great question. Competent bullying shares some similarities with narcissism, particularly in the way both can involve manipulation, charm, and control. A competent bully might use subtle, calculated tactics to maintain power, similar to how narcissists can manipulate others to feed their own sense of superiority. However, not all competent bullies are necessarily narcissists-narcissism involves a more pervasive personality pattern. Both can be harmful, but their motivations and underlying traits may differ.
@@DrTonyWeston thank you 😊
“First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out-because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out-because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out-because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me-and there was no one left to speak for me.” -Martin Niemöller What we are willing to accept or ignore on a one to one basis is ultimately what shapes our society
Thank you so much for sharing this powerful quote by Martin Niemöller. It beautifully illustrates the profound responsibility we all have to stand up for others. As you pointed out, what we choose to ignore or accept on an individual level has far-reaching consequences in shaping our society. Bystanders play a crucial role in whether bullying, oppression, or injustice continues unchecked. When we remain silent, we inadvertently empower harmful behavior. But when we choose to speak up, even in small ways, we can disrupt that cycle and create a more compassionate and just environment. Your comment really underscores the importance of this message-thank you for adding such valuable insight to the conversation.
And sadly sometimes due to a complete lack of discipline...and ensuring actually people with mental health illness being overlooked!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts. You’re raising an important point. Mental health issues, including bipolar disorder, can sometimes be misunderstood or overlooked, especially when there’s a lack of discipline in recognizing the signs or providing the necessary support. It’s crucial that we take mental health seriously and ensure that people who are struggling receive proper attention, care, and understanding. While discipline in managing symptoms and seeking treatment is important, it’s also key to remember that mental health challenges are complex and often require a compassionate, multi-faceted approach that includes support from healthcare professionals, family, and community. Thank you for engaging with this topic-together we can continue to bring more awareness and care to mental health issues.
@@DrTonyWeston I mean when kids are never checked for outbursts. And think it's okay to behave that way when adults!
As someone who was kicked into unconsciousness a few times by his dad, i dont have any issues. I mean, 60, no relationships, no job, no career, no skills. Perfect.
Thank you for sharing your experience. I’m deeply sorry to hear about the pain you endured. It sounds like you have had a number of very difficult experiences in your life. Even when we might not always recognise it, traumatic experiences can affect us in many ways, and it’s so important to acknowledge that everyone’s journey is different. It sounds like you’re carrying a lot on your shoulders. If you ever feel ready to explore your feelings or experiences further, there are resources and professionals who can offer support. Healing is not easy, but reaching out for help can be a step toward finding peace and new possibilities. Please know you’re not alone in this.
😢
Thank you for sharing your emotion; it seems like this topic has touched you deeply. Childhood trauma and its connection to mental health challenges like schizophrenia can bring up intense feelings. Healing from trauma is a complex and often emotional journey, and it’s completely okay to feel overwhelmed or sad when thinking about these experiences. If you’re feeling emotional or upset right now, I encourage you to take a deep breath and remind yourself that understanding the roots of trauma is the first step toward healing. Seeking support, whether from a trusted person in your life or a mental health professional, can also be incredibly helpful during these moments. Remember, healing is possible, and you don’t have to face it alone. Thank you for engaging with the video-your feelings matter, and they’re valid. Stay kind to yourself. 🙏❤️ If you’d like to talk more or need additional resources, please feel free to share.
Thank you for your helpful presentations 🙏 .
Thank you so much for your kind words and for watching! 🙏 I’m glad you found the presentation helpful. Thank you so much 🙏❤️. I’m glad the video resonated with you. Healing from childhood trauma is a profound journey, and I hope this ritual offers a meaningful step towards that recovery. @DrTonyWeston Thankyou & I am going to share your words of wisdom. I hope you have a nice, peaceful day ❤️
Well funnily enough as you mentioned blocked drains, I had an overflowing roof gutter drain that was close to flooding my house recently. Now I'm not normally someone prone to panic and stay calm in crises but I did wobble for a while after losing my partner to cancer and other horrors… So picture the scene:- me with my rear end up in the air and up to my elbows in storm water, trying to unblock the pipe in the middle of a torrential downpour… I stopped to take in the ridiculousness of it all and finding the whole thing hilariously funny, I packed myself off back indoors to dry off and call emergency cover. It took a week to sort in the end but it was an adventure 😁 and there was nothing to do but go with the flow. Guess that means I'm enlightened 🤣? or maybe just that all the therapy, meditation and mindfulness has worked and I'm back ☺️. Yes to life. Thank you Doc for this powerful message 🙏
Wow, what an amazing story! 🙏 It sounds like you truly embodied the message of going with the flow, even amidst a challenging (and soggy!) situation. That moment of humor and acceptance in the face of what could have been a panic-inducing event is such a testament to your inner strength and resilience. I’d say your therapy, meditation, and mindfulness have definitely worked-and perhaps enlightenment isn’t so far off after all! 😁 It’s inspiring to hear how you’ve navigated life’s storms, both literal and emotional, especially after such deep losses. Saying ‘yes’ to life, even when it’s messy and unpredictable, is truly powerful. Thank you so much for sharing your journey, and I’m honored that this message resonated with you. Here’s to more adventures (hopefully drier ones!) and continuing to embrace the flow of life. 🌿 Take care and keep shining your light! ✨
@@DrTonyWeston Thank you ☺️ At my lowest point I was fortunate enough to connect with an amazing therapist and to have an incredible group of friends around me who keep me grounded, many of which would never have come into my life without those losses, and without both of whom I wouldn't still be here. I feel very blessed.
👍👍
Thanks so much for your support! 😊 Glad you enjoyed the video!
Thank you Dr T, beautifully said
Thank you so much! I’m glad the message resonated with you. Wishing you continued growth on your journey of embracing both vulnerability and strength.
You look like death warmed up
actually, "Freeclaim your energy" is a good slogan
I love that! ‘Freeclaim Your Energy’ has a nice ring to it and really captures the essence of what we’re talking about in the video-releasing the mental blocks and reclaiming the energy we lose to those defenses. Thanks for the suggestion! It might just become a slogan!
Thankyou ❤

But However, during my exploration, I came across several issues that I believe need attention. I am a RUclips expert If you give me permission, I will share some information to increase your channel. Then you get lots of subscribe and views Can I suggest growing your RUclips channel?
