Intro for the gold medal hockey game Canada vs USA at the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics.
I don't remember where I was watching this, but I remember watching this before making my way to downtown Toronto to watch with other Canadians on the big screens at Yonge-Dundas Square. All I know, is that when I saw Michael get up off the bench, skate around, puck handle and shoot, I teared up. I don't know how many takes they needed to capture him playing well, but the fact that he probably had to do multiple takes even with Parkinson's made me admire the man even more.
Luongo James Duthie interview brought me here
same LOL
For a long time when I was a kid in the 80s watching mjfox movies I always thought he was American but my surprise I learned he was Canadian some great actors come from Canada sorry legends love u Canada from Ireland
My 2 favourite Leaf coaches were both coaching in this game. Burns and Quinn were 1A and 1B, both brought the Leafs to within reach of the SC Final. Glad Burns got his cup, sad that Quinn didn't get his. Both great coaches. RIP to both.
0:18 The way Felix Potvin slumps. Poor Felix Potvin.
An American From Florida.. Inline my entire life Loved MJF for his films Moved to Alaska... Took to ice for one season. Won the beer league championship Watched this video before every game A love affair with a game we cannot describe. Perfect words
Gretzky to Lemieux - Just hearing that gave me chills.
I was at this game. I was 17. Sitting in the upper rafters at center ice. I was with my buddy Trevor. There were two 15 year old leaf fans in front of us. When the Leafs went up 3-0 they became obnoxious. When Adam's scored the entire section hit them with white towels as they ran away. Good times :)
Still gives me chills up the spine watching this 10 years later. I think I read that Michael's portion of the video was shot at Mike Bossy's home rink on Long Island. Does anyone know if this is true?
Don Wittman called it on CBC that year in 94
Actually it was Bob Cole (and Harry Neale). I JUST watched the replay of the game on Sportsnet, and I came here to hear the Jim Robson call.
dmcxxx ty
Potvin could have just held the puck. WHAT was he thinking?
I'm in that crowd. It was Mayhem. Unforgettable.
Great memory, from a Canucks fan. For the record, how would these Leafs matched up against the Rangers? Funny how both these teams lost to the LA Kings a year earlier.
@Alex Lovelock I don't think the Leafs would have beaten the Rangers in the Final. They were a similar team to Vancouver but not as big or physical. The reason the Rangers/Canucks series went 7 games is because Kirk McLean stole Game 1 and from Game 5 onward, the Canucks started pounding the Rangers physically. But before Game 7 the Rangers had 2 days to rest which helped a lot and they were able to seal the deal. Leetch and Messier were on a mission that year.
@@samjenkins3171 That 2 day rest was huge as the Rangers had a lot of aging stars. The Canucks and Rangers were so evenly matched and even in Game 7, the game was decided by just 1 goal and could have easily went to OT if Lafayette didn't hit the post. It was one of the best Stanley Cup finals ever. It was a weird year for the Canucks. They finished 7th in the Western Conference and underachieved as the previous 2 seasons they won their division. Once the playoffs started, they showed what they were really capable of. 94 hurt me more than 2011.
Man I really thought the Canucks would pull it off.....1994 was better than 2011 imo
Potvin's rebound control....... bruh
Leafs were winning this game 3-0. Another disgrace.
WOOO!!!
haha Tommy! "goodbye Toronto"
I was at this game I was only 14 but this memory still remains. My father surprised me with tickets for the 6th row to the left of Felix Potvin for the winning goal. I will never Forget this night
I was just recently arguing with a Leafs fan over whos team has had a better past. He kept bring up the fact the Leafs won a Cup. 1st I told him to name 1 cup the Leafs won after NHL expansion then I played this clip
Toronto Maples Leafs: A legacy of failure since 67'
Goodbye Toronto!!! Best line
even more so than 2011, these guys deserved the Cup.
Both do
Don't get me wrong, that Rangers team did too
great call by a great commentator
I was there.
I notice that that year, the Sharks first two rounds and the Canucks 2nd and 3rd round playoff games used the 2-3-2 format (which allowed the Canucks to win the series at home). Does anybody know why this is? Was it a scheduling issue?
+jessc1979 Yeah I think back then teams had the option to use the 2-3-2 if they so chose because of travel involved. Now a days that is not the case.
+VancouverChokers I love your name. That's what Vancouver Canucks are right now. Back to the topic. I wonder whose option it was. Does the team with the higher seed choose or is it the case that both teams need to agree?
jessc1979 I think the higher seed chose. From what I gather Toronto had the choice of either for this series but chose 2-3-2 because of coast to coast travel.
When they changed to the 1 through 8 seed playoff format for the start of that season they decided whenever a Pacific Division team played a Central Division team, it would be 2-3-2. It lasted a couple years, then I think they made it optional before scrapping it all together. So you're correct, San Jose I think played Detroit and Toronto meaning the format applied. Ditto for the Canucks and Stars rounds two.
oh god did anyone get chills at 1:00 as well? like "BABY YOU ARE PLAYING THE THING YOU CAN DO THE THING YES YOU CAN" im gonna cry.
Me!!😂😍
Thumbs up if you're watching this in 2015
+David Selimovic Sorry I'm watching it in 2016.
Good. Nice to see that time itself has not remained in a paused state, thus causing life as we know it to stagnate
2017
will NEVER ever forget this. that call by jim robson... just magical. even after all these years, watching this still sends chills down my spine.
The best!
after babcock said toronto was "canada's team" i went right to this video
Wow, I can't believe both Pat Burns and Pat Quinn are now gone.
I can’t believe Quinn was against his future team. Also can’t believe Toronto blew a 3-0 lead. At least they were underdogs back then, not like now. Always get beaten by Boston.
Why was G5 at Vancouver???
There was an option for a 2-3-2 format that year, rather than the typical 2-2-1-1-1 format, which Toronto selected for reduced travel I suppose.
Ted VdW How long did teams have this option? Was it just '94?
Christopher Johnson Don't specifically recall. Maybe 1 or 2 seasons?
Adams shoots... scores!!!! Greg Adams!!! Greg Adams!!! Adams gets the winner!!! Fourteen seconds into the second overtime. The Vancouver Canucks are going to the Stanley Cup Final!!! Can you believe it?!?! Goodbye Toronto!!!
Save by Richter! - Sam Rosen (Game 3 Penalty Shot vs. Pavel Bure) :P
Sorry but USA is better
can't hear you over our Gold Medals
then let me speak louder "USA IS BETTER"
***** Too bad your national pass time's best players are most non-Americans (Miggy, Votto, Bautista)
i don't even like baseball..
***** Then explain how the US is better at hockey. The World Championships is a wash cuz both Canada and the US both do shit their, Canada has won the last two Olympic Gold Medals, the greatest hockey player of all time is Canadian (Gretzky) and the only two comparable players to Gretzky are Canadian (Mario and Bobby), so how is the US better than Canada at hockey.
This is Pat LaFontaine's rink at his place.
in Lloyd Harbor, Long Island, NY. Very Canadian.
Same here. That looks like such a cool rink location.
unreal rink
Battle of the Pats.
Really? Tell that to Ryan Kesler, Patrick Kane, Ryan Miller, Jaromir Jagr, Zdeno Chara, the Sedin twins, Mike Modano, and every other American, Russian, Czech, Swede, German, etc. who plays in the NHL or for their country or in their country. Hockey is an international sport - American football is played nowhere else.
Because no other country found it interesting enough to adopt.
....because we made it
I've lost track how many times the Leafs have been eliminated in OT.
except its ONLY your game, no one else's. Its about the same as Americans bragging about how great they are in American football.
The ONLY thing that they should've had as an intro for the game would be the original HNIC theme. Didn't recognize it at the time, but it's a shame they did not. Especially when we won it
Owner of the Copyrights got Greedy. HNIC was like “F-You! Hold My Beer. We’ll have a Contest and Make a Better Anthem!”
Goodbye Toronto!!!!!
The best.
Back in 1994 before the Nordiques moved to Colorado, and before the Predators, Wild, and Blue Jackets became expansion teams, the Eastern Conference didn't have room for Toronto, and the West wouldn't have had enough teams without Toronto in it. Plus, back in the 80's, the Leafs found a good home in a division with the Red Wings, Blackhawks, Blues, and North Stars. Then in 1998 after more expansion and relocations took place, they realigned and put the Leafs in the East.
I love the Canadian family! Rich or poor I will never leave!
Leafs, Raptors and Marlies: three crap teams whose futures are grim, except in terms of revenues. ADAMS! ADAMS!
Why was Vancouver and Toronto in the same Conference..?
2012
Wow........ That's all I can say
